Now hear this:

Thanks to John McCain, Free Republic will shut down tomorrow at high noon for 30 days. No non government approved electioneering messages may be transmitted over the internet for the 30 days immediately preceding a primary election.

That is all.

The above exercise was just a drill. But if John McCain has his way with his proposed rules for regulating political free speech on the internet, this is how we will be forced to operate in the coming election cycle and all election cycles in the future until we can get the unconstitutional McCain-Feingold act repealed.

I'm mad as hell and I'm not going to take it anymore!

If the thought of losing your right to express yourself online makes you mad, it is high time you let Senator John McCain know how you feel.

"As a California trial court research attorney, I suspect you are alarmist. Who the hell is giving you legal advice?"

Yeah, guess you're right. The eve of the new regulations shutting down political free speech on the Internet is probably too early to sound the alarm. I can always wait until after FR's shutdown to post the alarm. Hmmmmm.... wait a cotton pick'n minute here. Something doesn't compute.

By the way, John McCain is my legal advisor. I just love the man. He's so sincere. Patriotic too.

Good humor can soothe even the darkest of moments.

So...what would YOU do if FR got shut down?

If this happens, might I suggest you put up some sort of BLACK BANNER mourning our 1ST ammendment right to free speech.

Then I misunderstood and I apologize.

Misunderstanding happen. Apology accepted.

Now, let's try to get the details of what's going on so we can prevent FR from being shuting down.

I want my country back. Where did it go?

It leaked out; was flushed; ignored and ran down the drain . . .

drop by drop

While folks were attending to 'important' things . . . like

selfishness, materialism, arrogance, pettiness, whining, pretending that there was freedom without responsibility; leaving it to the other guy; thinking that pleasure was the end all, be all and god; assuming that politicians were higher than slug sh*t; . . . the list could go on for thousands of items, I suspect.

Because this bill was passed under a democratic congress and a democratic president right.

No .. because if the Democrats take back control they will shove every socialist pet project agenda of theirs down our throats ... and it will make this CFR of McCains look like a picnic in the park

All I am saying .. is think before doing something stupid

As a member of the grassroots, I hold a real grudge against John McCain for the crap he pulled in 2000! He was so bad that my Senator Inhofe (R-OK) took off the gloves early in the primary and came out for George Bush and against John McCain. That spoke volumes.

Ok, here's the plan. We all write letters and make phone calls to all the Senators and Congresscritters. Make lots of noise! If that fails, we march!

The 50th district (Duke Cunningham's old seat) has its primary election within 30 days. I've already gotten my ballot.

BTW, symbolic closure may be a way of fighting, although not one that I would choose.

I agree, it only hurts Mr. Robinson's supporters, I.E. FR members.

As unfortunate as it seems, my dad has predicted that only way for this country to get back to the way it was would be through a civil war. It seems like we're heading in that direction...question is, what foreign enemies would capitalize on an American civil war?

You sound like my father, circa 1973, and even today. I remember a similar "what-if" discussion I saw and participated in on Fidonet back in the late 1980's and the consensus then is that Red China would capitalize on it. I figured the USSR back then too although I think Russia, which is acting like a "rump USSR" as of late would probably capitalize on it too. Well, if this happens, I'll try to touch base wit all on yuns on Free Dominion and the Yahoo group.

How about Canada - we could hook up w Free Dominion's - they already have a guest page for us.

I was against the whole thing. As much as I dislike the wall-to-wall campaign spots on the radio at election time, the only thing worse is the gummint telling us what we can and cannot run on the air. I am completely amazed that no one has bothered to test this and take it to the Supremes, if necessary.

On the other hand, are people just going to go quietly, or are they going to have to jail the whole country for speaking our minds whenever the hell we feel like it?

The leftists are strident in their protection of terrorists who use the Internet to communicate - Why, Bin Laden has an absolute First Amendment right to contact terror cells in the U.S.! But for mere citizens to discuss politics before an election is an uppity act of subversion that is not protected by the First Amendment. Such is life in the Union of Soviet Socialist States of America.
