Mid-Level Business Staffers Hit Hardest...

Time Inc. eliminated another 250 jobs today in its latest, largest and, perhaps, last round of cutbacks.

The mid-level and junior-level workers shown the door almost all came from the business side of operations at a long list of titles.

"As Time Inc. continues to evolve from a magazine publisher to a multiplatform media company, we're continuing to look at our cost base and how to run our business more efficiently and effectively.

In doing so, unfortunately, we've had to eliminate a number of positions."

"But it's not just about cost cutting," Ms. Zelenko added...

Nowadays, Time magazine is pathetically small. Only about 35 to 45 pages. And who would want to but it anyways? By the Time the magazine hits the stands, the news in it is already stale.

"Time Inc. continues to evolve "

Conservatives read newspapers and magazines. They also spend money.

Liberals watch TV, steal cable and the comics section.

What part of target market are these SOBs missing.

Imagine if they ever posted their true circulation numbers?

Ahh, but there HAS been a lot of legal action over the past couple of years over true circulation numbers - - several of the dinosaur media publications were caught lying, thereby committing fraud against their advertisers.

I believe this is why there have been lots and lots of layoffs in the newspaper business over the past year or so. The newspapers are afraid to keep cheating so they announce "drops" in circulation and make up for lost revenue by laying people off.

Personally, I wish they would just hurry up and die.

They are still way behind the curve and hiding the salami...If someone in the boardroom blurted out what they thought were the true circ numbers theyd shut it down immediately. Despite the lawsuits, job security is #1.

Good analysis. She has a venomous streak that can be somewhat camouflaged by having a co-host, but as central figure of a nightly broadcast she won't be able to hide it.

Tim Goodman wrote a nasty, biting column about her new position in the SF Chronicle.

....."TIME" to let them get a real job like the rest of us....

I hear McCain has an offer on the table to pay any American $50/hr to pick lettuce (ya' know, the jobs Americans won't do). I'm trying to take him up on his offer but somehow I don't think he'll be responding to my e-mail anytime soon.

Think of the forests lives that could be saved if Time-LIfE stopped publishing. From unborn children to our soldiers in Iraq, the less the MSM poisons our culture, the better.

And it's not even news anymore. On the cover is usually some Hollywood twit or the latest healthcare propaganda.

But I agree with an earlier poster, who said that Time is now research material for elementary school kids, which is unfortunate.

Time is a hippie magazine?

All their reporters are ex-60's radicals...just like most of academia.
