Afghanistan Calls for Crackdown at Border
(Full Story)

Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

Coalition and Afghan forces have in recent days been fighting fierce battles against Taliban fighters near the Afghan-Pakistan border.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The former UK head of radical Islamic group al-Muhajiroun has been charged over the Muslim cartoon protests in London in February, said Scotland Yard.

Anjem Choudary, 39, of Ilford, Essex, was bailed after being charged with organising the protest without notifying the police.

Abdul Muhid, 23, of East London, was charged with two counts of soliciting to murder. He was remanded in custody.

Demonstrations were held outside the Danish Embassy on 3 February.

Many Muslims were angry about cartoons in which the Prophet Mohammed was satirised.

Online Magazine Hints at Attacks on Papers that Ran Muhammad Caricatures"

"A special issue of the online journal of Ansar al-Sunna, which means "Supporters of Sunni Islam," could respark the flames. The online journal has taken the unprecedented step of listing dozens of European newspapers that reprinted the Muhammad cartoons. The list includes German dailies such as Die Tageszeitung, the Berliner Zeitung, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Die Welt.

Terrorism experts who follow the site believe the journal's authors are trying to motivate potential assasins to engage in acts of retaliation. There's nothing new about this tactic. Terrorist leaders like Osama bin Laden and Ayman al-Zawahiri don't give orders to engage in specific terrorist attacks. Instead, they orchestrate Islamist violence by means of violent demagoguery, counting on their followers to act on their own initiative.

Stoking the fire

The remarks on the cartoon scandal in Ansar al-Sunna fit the pattern exactly. "While it may prove difficult to make all Muslims carry out the divine verdict in this matter," the authors write, "the path of jihad against the enemies of God is still available.""

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "LINTHICUM, Md. - A Baltimore-Washington International Airport official says a flight was delayed and the plane disinfected on Friday night after several passengers became ill onboard.

Four passengers were taken to local hospitals, apparently suffering from food poisoning.

BWI spokeswoman Tracy Newman says AirTran flight 497 to Orlando, Florida, was delayed before 8 p.m. when ten passengers complained of feeling ill and four vomited before the plane left the gate."

DANANG, Vietnam May 6, 2006 (AP)— Only half the world's human bird flu cases are being reported to the World Health Organization within two weeks of being detected a response time that must be improved to avert a pandemic, a senior WHO official said Saturday.

Dr. Shigeru Omi, WHO's regional director for the Western Pacific, said it is estimated that countries would have only two to three weeks to stamp out, or at least slow, a pandemic flu strain after it began spreading in humans.
