Im going to try something entirely new to Free Republic ..start a thread restricted to practical, positive. pro-active things that this huge forum filled with good people who love this country can actually DO about helping to solve the illegal immigration problem, and how we can encourage our leaders at all levels to get their acts together.
This is not a thread for venting or attacking (Heaven knows, thats been done plenty around here!). Lets keep it entirely positive ..no attacks on the President and Bushbots or the GOP or on each other, from EITHER side. No threats to kick the GOP bums out .we all know that the risk of having Dems in power is too great for that irresponsible threat. NO name-calling from EITHER side ..Jorge and El Presidente both qualify as disrespectful name-calling. (Perhaps we can all just ignore anyone who tries to turn this into a hostile thread, and punch the abuse button, but NOT engage in battle with him/her). Disagree, but be respectful about it.
What we really need are practical things we can do with links to key Senate and Congressional offices, the White House, as well as STATE and LOCAL government offices, examples of THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE letters to our leaders that will actually be read, and responded to. Phone numbers, and ideas for THOUGHTFUL and POSITIVE phone calls to leaders. What we also need are specific PRAYER requests for you, so that those of us who believe that our God is the God of the impossible can be on our knees in prayer for the details of this immense problem. We need fervent prayer for the President and Congress, as well as our State and Local authorities. And we need Freeper creativity!
We are LEGION, and together, I believe we can make a difference in moving this engine down the track more rapidly.
There are people who are very angry with the President and the Republicans in Congress, and people who still respect and admire the President greatly, and are angry with the Republicans in Congress ..and even some who are NOT angry with the Republicans in Congress (OK ..maybe not..... :) ..but we ALL want to end this invasion, and help our brothers and sisters in the Southwest to have their safe and normal lives return, and prevent the invasion from moving further.
Those of us outside the region may not understand what things are like, but we want to, so if those of you in the affected states could give us more details about how bad this is, without belittling us because we dont live there, it would be much appreciated. We know its bad, and we care about it, even though we cannot fully appreciate it from where we sit.
There is a great work force of pro-Bush people out in freeper lurker land who have been shoved out of the discussion by bashers. There are lots of us who want to know whats going on, but wouldnt go on a standard immigration thread if our lives depended on it, because the disdain for us there is palpable. We may agree with the idea of a guest worker program, or we may not, but we dont want to be labeled just because our ideas are different.
So LET US HELP YOU, PLEASE! We are activists, and we are willing to work.
Tell us what we can do. Lets band together on this important issue to do whatever we can do to put pressure on Congress, the White House, state and local governments polite, respectful pressure .as well as encouraging them when they do make good decisions, and see what happens.
What do you think? Can we be pro-active and actually get something done? Can we discuss this without rancor, but with the common goal in mind to rescue our beloved country from invasion?
If you think so, please ping those who will, without personal attacks, tell us their stories, and let us get involved in getting something done. This thread is not to place blame, but to come up with solutions.
This is America
..and we are Freepers! Lets ROLL!
I say you go first.

Don't raise the quotas.
You betcha! But a deluge probably wouldn't hurt.
Excellent, Reagan Man! Specifics.
WRITE your Congressmen and tell them to SUPPORT HR4437
We all can do that.
Enforce the laws that exist and seal up the border for our protection.
One other point that would help in enforcing employer sansctions would be to require Social Security and IRS to share information with Immigration Investigators. Require employers to check employees with government database.
WE need to put the Sheriff of Maricopa County, AZ in charge of the entire Southern border.
Huh? Did you just come back from happy hour?
I figure the main idea is to make it clear we do appreciate the presence of folks desiring to make a future in America, and we want to honor those who choose to do so legally, and we will not allow sneaks to cut in line on those honorable folks. I think we could win this war of words and gain the respect of the many ethnic groups in this country who now oppose immigration reform. Maybe.
How about they have to post a 5-10 thousand dollar bond to visit here.
I would love to know how Japan Australia and Germany handle those who try to over stay. We can probably learn from them
Hiring illegals is illegal. What part of that don't you get?

They'll throw out the rants........but civil, strongly stated letters (snail mail), and e-mails, as well as phone calls, are VERY effective en masse.
Could I send more than $300 to some other country?
No then all of those willing citizens will line up to work for the prevailing wage. Isn't that what all of the close the border folks keep saying? We will see millions of white folks on roofs, busing tables, mowing lawns cleaning toilets. All of those jobs both blacks and whites are just itching to get their hands on.
if the voters speak with one voice surely the president and congress would HAVE to listen.
ight work on some but I'm thinking of those large Mexican families where each family member could send $300. Kind of like the Clinton-Gore campaign fundraising. People will find a way around it.
Meant "Might" instead of ight
So far........so GOOD!
Thank you. Sadly, I haven't seen many positive responses, and I've seen a number of the people I think of as immigration trolls.
That said, what I'd like to see is more direct confrontation of Mexico. If I were a Mexican, I'd be crawling across the Rio Grande too. But there's no reason for this, because Mexico has oil and other resources, a large, hardworking literate population (most of whom are working here), and no excuse for not having an economy. Except that it's technically a socialist state, which means that there is a vast bureaucracy, advancement only from within government, and profit only for people who are already entrenched within the system.
I would like to see a US President hold Mexico responsible. If we have to fund their immigrant health care, etc., then we take it out of foreign aid or trade benefits. If we have trouble because Mexico refuses to repatriate its criminals that we have caught here (one of my kids is police officer in a Western city, and Mexico is NOT cooperative), then we penalize Mexico.
This is not an "immigrant" problem, it's a state problem, but no president so far has addressed it as such.
