A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997.   Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

You Know You're Addicted to the Internet When...

  • Your bookmarks list takes 15 minutes to scroll from top to bottom.

  • Your eyeglasses have a web site burned into them.

  • You find yourself brainstorming for new subjects to Google.

  • You refuse to go to a vacation spot with no electricity and no phone lines.

  • You finally do take that vacation, but only after buying a cellular modem and a laptop.

  • You spend half of the plane trip with your laptop on your lap.... and your kid in the overhead compartment.

  • Your dreams are in HTML.

  • You find yourself typing "com" after every period when using a word processor.

  • You turn your computer off and get this awful empty feeling, like you just pulled the plug of your loved one.

  • You step out of the room and realize that your roomates have moved and you don't have any idea when it happened.

  • You turn up the volume real loud when leaving the room so you can hear if anyone IM's you.

  • You wife drapes a blond wig over the monitor to remind you of what she looks like.

  • All of your friends have an @ in their names.

  • Looking at a pageful of someone else's links, you notice that you've been to all of them.

  • You check your mail. It says "no new messages." So you check it again.

  • You don't know what sex three of your closeset friends are, because they have nuetral screennames and you never bothered to ask.

  • You miss more than five meals a week downloading the latest MP3's.

  • You wake up at 3 a.m. to go to the bathroom and stop and check your e-mail on the way back.

  • Your virtual girlfriend finds a new sweetheart with a larger bandwidth.

  • The last hottie you picked up was only a jpeg.

  • You start tilting your head sideways to smile. :)

  • Your sweetie says communication is important in a marriage...so you buy another computer and network them together so that you can IM each other anytime.

  • You start using smileys in your snail mail.....

  • You bring a bag lunch to the computer.

  • You have withdrawals if you are away from the computer for more than a few hours.

  • You take a speed reading course to keep up with the scrolling.

  • You double click your TV remote.

  • You type faster than you think. You can now type over 70 WPM.

  • You check your e-mail and forget you have real mail.

  • You go into withdrawals during dinner.

  • You rank your friends by the amount of bandwith they have.

  • You message someone via IM when they are less than 20 feet away.

  • The sound of the keys clicking turns you on.

  • You have more browsers than friends in the real world.

  • You sign off and your screen says you were on for 3 days and 45 minutes.

  • You get up in the morning and go online before getting your coffee.

  • The letters have come off your keyboard from excessive use.

  • You order pizza online - because you can't be bothered to call.

  • You enter a room and get greeted by 25 people with {{{hugs}}} and ** kisses**.

  • You're on the phone and say BRB.

  • You purchase a vanity car license plate with your screen name on it.

  • You say "lol" instead of laughing.

  • You talk on the phone with the same person you are sending an instant message to.

Floral Apology

A man stopped at a florist shop after work to pick up roses for his wife. As the clerk was putting the finishing touches on his bouquet, another man burst through the door, breathlessly requesting a dozen red roses. "I'm sorry," the clerk said. "This man just ordered our last bunch."

The desperate customer turned to the other man and begged, "May I please have those roses?"

"What happened?" the first man asked. "Did you forget your wedding anniversary?"

"It's even worse than that," the second man confided. "I crashed my wife's hard drive."

Family Stories

READ: Luke 15:11-32

God . . . has given us the ministry of reconciliation. —2 Corinthians 5:18

Everybody loves a family story, and today’s Bible reading contains one of the most well-known stories in all of Scripture—the Parable of the Lost Son.

Author Henri Nouwen, in his book The Return Of The Prodigal Son, suggests that all Christians, at some point in their walk of faith, are represented by each of the three main characters. At times we are the wayward child in need of repentance and forgiveness. At other times we are the big brother who wants to hold on to resentment and withhold forgiveness. But as we mature, we become like the father, whose highest desire is to have all his children reconciled.

Nouwen ends the book with these words: “As I look at my own aging hands, I know that they have been given to me to stretch out to all who suffer, to rest upon the shoulders of all who come, and to offer the blessing that emerges from the immensity of God’s love.”

What role are you playing in your family story? Do you need the courage to repent and seek forgiveness? Or do you need the compassion to extend forgiveness?

God has given His children the “ministry of reconciliation” (2 Corinthians 5:18-19). Now would be a good time to start. Julie Ackerman Link

Lord, grant me the courage to confess my faults to those I’ve offended, and the grace to accept the confessions of those who have offended me. May I become a minister of reconciliation to bless my family on Your behalf. Amen.

A right attitude with your family begins with a right attitude toward God.

My son pushed me into the computer age..brought his old one down and got me connected, emailed me links to Free Republic articles all the time..BIG mistake! LOL I have moved on to cable and a new computer. I remember being afraid I'd crash the computer..I have no idea what makes a computer crash but I no longer worry about it.

I look up everything on the net, too.

I was just thinking. There is absolutely nothing wrong with computer addiction. The trouble is with the blackberry phone addiction. I just heard hubby's cell phone again. LOL ;)
