About the Petition: It contains more than 55,000 pages
It is so complex that even those who wrote it dont fully understand it. The it is the federal tax code, and more and more Americans are demanding that the time has come to abolish the IRS in favor of a Fair Tax system.
Fair Tax ping!
The information above is an excerpt. I forgot to check off the excerpt option when posting the thread.
They have been talking about this for at least 30 years. It isn't going to happen but I am sure in the year 2030 someone will bring up again.
Yipes! Say NO to fair tax! It's a regressive tax. We need a flat tax.
He he he he ... I WISH it was regressive. It isn't though. Necessity spending is exempt from tax.
AFAIK, it's been ten. The movement has been slow but steady- and is increasing now.
It took 137 years before the income tax was put on us which we've had for 103 years - let's hope we can remove it sooner than 2030 (which, interestingly would be 117 years of the income tax).

It is regressive.
I you make $10,000 per year and I make $100,000 per year and we both buy a boat for $1,000 at say, 10% tax then we both pay $100.
That $100 is only 0.1% of my income and 1.0% of your income. That's a regressive tax system.
We need a flat tax.
X I am interested in being audited by the I.R.S. Please make sure they get a copy of this petition with my name on it.
1. There is no question that the present tax system has to be reformed.
2. The IRS should be abolished and another agency established to perform their function.
3. A reasonable tax system should be created to pay the costs of maintaining our civilization.
I don't think that it will ever happen as long as long as the Democrats and the Republicans remain the major political parties. IMHO
I shutter when I consider what we are passing on to our grandchildren.
It isn't going to happen but I am sure in the year 2030 someone will bring up again.
The same skepticism was said about womens right to vote but a strong grassroots movement resulted in the 19th amendment. That same strong grassroots movement is occurring with the Fair Tax.
I hope you are right but I think the IRS is too powerful of a tool for those who are in power and those who want to be. The Russians had something similar...I think they called it the KGB.
Realistically speaking, what would it take to eliminate the IRS and institute a Fair Tax? They aren't going to change the tax code just because 55,000 out of 300,000,000 Americans sign a petition.
We need a flat tax.
Our current income tax started was essentially s flat tax. at the time the income tax was enacted in 1913. The first tax ranged from merely 1% on the first $20,000 of taxable income and was only 7% on incomes above $500,000. Approximately only 2% of the population, counting both taxpayers and their dependents, was required to file returns. Today, more than 80% of the population is under the income tax.
Passing another flat tax will only result in another corrupt tax system enforced by the oppressive IRS.
A tax plan even the Taliban would love.

The Fair Tax is progressive. Consumption tax increases as the level income increases Fair Tax FAQ #49.

Naaah... it's 30% - and good luck getting the tax portion financed. (assuming you had more of a real world scenario where one purchaser paid cash, and the other needed to finance it)
Your example doesn't work. People who make more generally spend more, hence they are taxed more. If you are spending a lot on that income, you have more problems than just taxes.
