Melanie Morgan/MAF response to today's Sac Bee article "Iraq war backers proudly pugnacious"
Melanie Morgan

Posted on 09/09/2006 9:09:48 PM PDT by AVNevis

I am proudly disturbed by the article written by Mr. Todd Milbourn, Bee Staff Writer and the grab bag of specious allegations made against the non-profit organization Move America Forward, of which I am Chairwoman.

This story should never have been written. It quotes anti- military liberal activists who have found themselves in the crosshairs of a pro-America, pro-troop movement.

The gist of Mr. Milbourn's piece is that the IRS is cracking down on 'nonprofit organizations that stray into party politics.' But no where in Milbourn's piece is one shred of evidence that Move America Forward has EVER violated any rules, regulations or shown the intent to do so. Even the author has admitted there is no connection to any political party, according to his search of public records.

Our organization is hyper-vigilant about staying within the confines of the rules and regulations governing 501 (c) 3's. If Mr. Milbourn has a problem with the way the law is structured, he needs to write a story about campaign finance laws and direct his inquiries to Senators McCain and Feingold.

On the eve of Move America Forward's efforts to produce a commemorative rally for the 9/11 victims at the state Capitol in Sacramento, this article strikes me as an effort to smear our good name.

All of the 'critics' quoted in Saturday's article are themselves affiliated with suspect organizations like moveon.org, whose own finances deserve close scrutiny, including Cindy Sheehan's Gold Star Families for Peace, which until this date, has never provided any documentation that it has filed the required 990 forms such as our organization has provided to the IRS on a continuing basis and is available to the public for inspection.

As usual, what is left on the editor's clipboard is a far more telling story that what actually appears in print. Including this fact: as MAF's Chairwoman, I have NEVER accepted a dime in compensation for my work on behalf of my organization, nor did Howard Kaloogian, the former Chairman until he stepped down in order to prevent any conflict of interest when he chose to run in a special election in San Diego.

I also informed the Bee that in addition to zero compensation for my work, I have never accepted any monies for expenses. In fact, I have contributed substantially my own personal funds to the important work of supporting our troops and their mission, while fighting in hellish conditions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I was aghast at the conflation of figures he quoted from the IRS that purported to show that MAF used it's funds to send 'talk-show hosts' to Iraq.

I spent more than $7,000 of my own money for my trip to Iraq. For me to accept payment from any outside organization (including the U.S. Government) would be a violation of ABC corporate policy, for whom I work. Mark and Holly Williams (formerly of KFBK) wrote a personal check totalling more than $15,000 to report live and direct on what our troops were saying, without the usual mainstream media filter. Buzz Patterson, of RightTalk, Martha Zoeller of WDUN, the documentary film producers, including Brad Maaske of Bakersfield, Marc Flagg, whose parents were murdered by the Islamic Jihadists who crashed an American Airlines flight into the Pentagon, also spent their own money.

Again, NONE of the talk show hosts accepted any renumeration from Move America Forward, and to write we did so is an outright lie.

I anticipate a correction from the Sacramento Bee. I doubt that I will get it.

Thank you for posting this beauty from "Our Lady Of The CA Recall!" The other crime against her good works was when Arnold Schwartzenegger hijacked her Recall Election movement against Gray Davis. Ol Arnold took us from the fryin pan, right into the danged fire using the hijacked CAGOP!!!

heard good news about the Boston Glob's circulation problems...

they were down 19% in advert revenue the past two months...and down 23% in circulation in the past nine months.

haha, a caller into Howie Carr's radio show says he worked doing phone sales promos for the Glob - and 2 out of three people he called said they "wouldn't wrap fish with that rag"...the young man said he couldn't take the insults any longer and quit after three weeks.

The Boston Globe. How the mighty have fallen.

Within hours of 9/11/2001 the best and brightest Bee brains opined that it was partly our fault. We don't try to understand the rest of the world, you see. War? What war? It was just a message.

Just a few weeks later the biggest Bee brain of them all, Sacramento Bee Publisher Janis Besler Heaphy, was booed off the stage at California State University Sacramento commencement. Ms Heaphy tried to use her mid-term commencement speech as a (another!) forum to blast the Bush administration.

"If bin Laden's words are suppressed, should we then censor the words of anyone who might oppose the administration or disagrees with a United States policy?" the biggest Bee brain of them all asked the students and family.

Ah shucks, said the Bee employees for days on end.. she was trying to tell the students to be independent thinkers. They were. The booed her off the stage -- and boy! were she and the Bee employees pissed!

The Bee's left wing Mother company is McClatchy. The stock symbol is MNI. To back up your words of wisdom re Bias = Layoffs", we can see in the chart below that their stock value is about as bad as the NY Slimes Stock, NYT in the past two years.

MDY is the Mid Cap Index ETF. That is where the NYT and MNI used to be ranked. They may have fallen out of the Mid Cap range with their falling stock value the past two years.

Any conservative, who owns a mutual fund with NYT or MNI stock in the fund is one really stupid sob. They should become liberals, who don't know any better.

A search of Todd Milbourn's past writings indicate that he is probably a maggot infested poster boy mediot for my tag line. Just add pro Islamofascist to his job description.

Sinking readership and revenue, because of biased and mediocre reporting, is finally taking its toll .

Might be a good time to talk to an attorney about a libel case against the Bee, then.

My FReeper performance art celebrating the accelerating woes of the Old Grey Hag and her crazy uncle Boston Glob could certainly use of yet another link.

Anyone With A Modem Can Report On The World

[Hillary Clinton] said, "We're all going to have to rethink how we deal with the Internet. As exciting as these new developments are, there are a number of serious issues without any kind of editing function or gatekeeping function."

Newspaper sale$ decline should be blamed on the Journos

. . .

People who work at journalism full time ought to be able to do a better job of it than people for whom it is a hobby. But that's not going to happen as long as we "professional" journalists ignore stories we don't like and try to hide our mistakes. We think of ourselves as "gatekeepers." But there is not much future in being a gatekeeper when the walls are down.
