His father, Michael Karson, told the Camera newspaper that the comments may have been misinterpreted and questioned whether his son's free speech rights had been violated.
"I would have hoped that state officials would know their First Amendment better than they seem to," he said.

Max's problems look like they come from poor parenting. It's hard to parent well when you're extremely stupid.

I would have hoped that VA state officials would know their Second Amendment better than they seem to.

Several witnesses told investigators the student said he was "angry about all kinds of things from the fluorescent light bulbs to the unpainted walls, and it made him angry enough to kill people." Sounds psycho to me too. Glad they took him in for questioning.

"I would have hoped that state officials would know their First Amendment better than they seem to," he said. Why would he think that? The University had no clue on Second Amendment Rights.
As for this idiotic kid, kick his butt... but jail seems a bit over the top. Unless they can prove he was making "terroristic threats"....

Watch out - the admin just deleted my post for less.

I’m not sure what the parents did wrong. While he can’t overtly threaten others, Max and anyone else is entitled to make comments sympathetic to a mass murderer without the government arresting him. It’s a free country.
To: wideawake
Well what did he do? Did he threaten someone or was he being insensitive and “scaring” people. Dad may be right but he may also need to smack Jr. in the mouth.

In 1999 it was kids who drew pictures of guns. Now they are going to round up and send to therapy all the goofy loner college students. Just wait. This is the first of many such stories we’ll see in the coming weeks.

Is that a crime? Apparently if it scares other students into not coming to class, it is (believe it or not). From the article:
he student, identified by police as Max Karson of Denver, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of interfering with staff, faculty or students of an education institution.
Then there is this from the article:
At Oregon's Lewis & Clark College, another student was detained by campus police Wednesday shortly before a vigil for the Virginia Tech victims when he was spotted wearing an ammunition belt. Portland police later determined that it was "a fashion accessory" made of spent ammunition, and said the man did not have a weapon. The belt was confiscated.
Confiscated? Huh?

Is that a crime? Absolutely. As is yelling "fire" in a crowded theater.
He's lucky to get off with just an arrest, given the venue of his remarks.
