My wife, the gift from God that she is, is fighting hard to keep her milk through illness. we have changed our sleep schedule done exercises, added compliments, and changed our diet to help. Its *that* important, if you cant nurse and your cowphobic use soy based formula for lactose intolerant kids. Kids are not meant to drink juice until 6mos of age... read a damn book..

Sorry, I have a 6mo daughter and this hits close to home!

Exactly! I know plenty of vegi/vegans and they always breastfeed but also have great pediatric care to make sure the baby has proper nutrition.

At least soy milk (or "soy juice" -- see Lewis Black) has some limited nutritional value. But APPLE juice?? I wouldn't touch that pure-sugar, no-vitamin crap as an adult!

Assuming the baby was born around average size (7-8 lbs.), it is pure viciousness, and not mere stupidity, to watch him wither away to 3.5 -- regardless of their precious vegan "lifestyle." I'm not sure I agree with "automatic" life sentence, but "until-she's-too-old-to-give-birth-again" sounds about right.

And another thing what the hell did you think the kid losing that much weight meant? yes kids lose a bit but if its more than 10% of their mass there is a serious problem. Ugg Lord prevent me from sinning in my heart out of anger..

A 6 week old baby weighing 3 1/2 pounds is not right. The baby probably weighed more when it was born.

This was, at the very least, the most sever combination of manslaughter, neglect, and child abuse one could imagine. This was a crime! 7 weeks earlier it would be legal (but still a crime)...

This was just! Birthed at home (ok) wanted a special diet (ok) too damn lazy to take the kid to be looked at when he was screaming all the time and losing weight (crime!)

Yet another sign that the vegan diet is not natural or healthy! if a new mother cant make milk because of it there has to be some red flags!

There is soy formula! yes its not a mashed bean but there are, to the best of my knowledge, no animal proteins in it.

The only non-protein based food I have ever seen my cat go after was cantaloupe - she’s nuts about it. The dog always thinks the cat’s into something good, but is always disappointed when she sees what it is.

There's something about this that doesn't quite make sense. Soy formula is not bad for a baby that small - many babies that can't tolerate lactose are put on soy formula and do just fine - in fact, they do better than they did on the cow's milk-based formula.

Though I question whether a 6-week old baby is ready for apple juice, they simply must not have been feeding the baby enough of anything.

I have an 11 month old granddaughter that lives at home (my daughter is military)so it hits home for me as well.

This is far more than incompetence or stupidity. This was an intentional act on the parents part. The’ve elevated their own Vegan lifestyle to a religion and put it clearly ahead of their childs health.

There isn’t a single Doctor that would recommend their course of feeding for an infant, In fact, had they taken the child to a doctor he would have turned them in for child abuse and the child would be alive today.

Obviously the jury concurred....
