I was listening to the news out of the corner of my ear when I heard FreeRepublic specifically mentioned as a "hate site" about fifteen minutes ago.
Ostensibly the long report was about the Klan using the web to recruit new wackos. Then the focus turned to Casa Maryland, and their director who claimed that calls for his murder had circulated on the internet by anti-immigrant bigots. It was then that the anchor identified FR by name as a hate site.
What are Republicans thinking? We are the base!
I thought that I heard that it was the New Republic that O’Reilley was talking about.
It’s the standard liberal canard - begin with a mention of the KKK or Nazis, and then weave in a reference to a) conservatives, b) christians, c) Free Republic, or d) Republicans.
Is it hateful speech to tell other Freeper’s they are using hateful speech?

I just sent a letter to Dr. Levin to ask for help letting the public know that FR is NOT a hate site. This is a concerted effort by the liberals to paint all FReepers as ‘hateful’, we’ve got to nip it in the bud.
Could we perhaps get the following added to the original post. I see a few within this thread asking if this has been proven and which station it was, despite the link. I would suggest the following be added:

The problem is that that scabrous few outpost everyone else, and the end result is that people either stop posting entirely, or stick to lighter threads - which I usually do.
And, truth be told, the rest of us could do with exercising a bit of thought before we post some of the things we do, too.
I agree. The hate extends beyond racism and religious and ethnic bigotry - many of those posts end up getting pulled. It seems as though anyone who doesn't agree 100% with the predominant views is subject to hateful attacks. Anything less makes you a liberal socialist. What thinking person agrees 100% with anyone?
It breaks my heart. :(

I have a theory that I have adopted as a guide for dealing with people.
We are all A-Holes.
Before you jump on me, this is an example of how I look at it:
Most people think they are pretty good drivers. And maybe, most of them really are. But all of us, even the best drivers, occasionally make mistakes or misjudge which evokes the ire of another driver.
We might misjudge their speed and pull out in front of them causing them to have to slow down dramatically. Or we might forget to use our turn signal. Or we might blow through a crosswalk with a pedestrian standing there waiting. And so on.
Even if the best drivers out there only make one mistake a week...the fact that there are millions and millions of us on the road means that in our drives to and from work every day, the odds are we are going to either do something that is going to piss off or endanger someone else, or they are going to do the same to us. Even if they are good drivers 99% of the time, that one percent is significant.
This analogy can be applied to doctors who injure patients, pilots who botch landings and teachers who hurt the feelings of kids.
And it can also be applied to Free Republic. There are people who may be reasonable the vast majority of the time, but they have a bad day and end up posting something that shouldn’t get posted. I know I have done it, and I think most Freepers have. I think it is important to view someone’s posting history, but...often that is too much work to gain the correct context in a society that sometimes has the attention span of a gnat on amphetamines.
Bottom line: When someone crosses me, I always try to keep in mind that it just might be out of character for them to do so. It helps me get along, and probably them too...:)
Of course...some people ARE just A-Holes.

We agree on this. I do a fair amount of online gaming, and the server I play on kicks people who repeatedly trash talk and use foul language. It is one of the more popular servers...people really appreciate civility and good sportsmanship.
