Why Evangelicals Should Support Mitt Romney

As an evangelical professor of Bible and theology, I have decided to support Mitt Romney for President (even though he is a Mormon) for two old-fashioned reasons: First, he is the best-qualified candidate, and second, he holds moral and political values consistent with those in the Bible.

Best-qualified: The best predictor of future performance is a person’s past track record. Romney’s record is stellar:

Intellectual ability: He was in the top 5 percent of his class at Harvard Business School and simultaneously in the top 1/3 of his class at Harvard Law School. He is incredibly intelligent.

Governor of Massachusetts: He won the governor’s race as a Republican in Massachusetts and restored financial discipline to the state. He was a successful governor of a liberal state. This also means he has a good shot at winning some New England states away from the Democrats in the general election.

Business success: He was hired by Bain & Company, one of the elite business consulting firms in the country, and was so successful that he became a partner. He then founded Bain Capital and made it a highly successful investment company. He built a personal fortune of around $200,000,000 in the process, an amazing business achievement. He knows how to run businesses, and what makes them profitable. This indicates a deep and also practical understanding of what kind of policies will be helpful or harmful to an economy, and second, an outstanding management ability proven in both state government and in business, which is a good predictor of ability to be an excellent President. By contrast, no Democratic candidate has ever run a business, a state or even a city.

I must admit, Mitt has, from watching some of his videos, outstanding moral values and a great relationship with his family. Something that a certain frontrunner cannot say, unfortunately.

How odd in that this is the reason I do not support him.

"Wayne Grudem" went to Harvard, Westminster and Cambridge, was formerly involved in the Vineyard movement and now teaches at Phoenix Seminary.

Don't at all agree with him sounds like yet another "cheer leader" when none is needed for conservatives to pick their choice.

You forgot to include “almost as big a screeching liberal as Guiliani”. No thanks.

***He seems to have trouble with the Deity of Christ, which is a “moral value consistent with those in the Bible”. But reason #1 looks pretty good, at least lately.

Who elected this guy Pope? Sorry, but I don’t know any of my fellow evangelicals who are waiting for some self-appointed “leader” to tell us who to vote for.

Nov. 18, 2003 Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court (SJC) rules that same-sex marriage is protected in the Mass. Constitution, and gives the Legislature 180 days to act (“Goodridge” ruling).

* Nov. 18, 2003 Romney responds to SJC ruling with four-sentence statement implicitly recognizing SJC’s authority, says only remedy will be a constitutional amendment: “I disagree with the Supreme Judicial Court. Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I will support an amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution to make that expressly clear. Of course, we must provide basic civil rights and appropriate benefits to nontraditional couples, but marriage is a special institution that should be reserved for a man and a woman.”

Romney is undoubtedly a very gifted individual. I personally think he has the best shot at defeating Hillary.

Oh, and the Log Cabin Republicans are broadcasting attack ads against him too. That fact perversely adds to his value.:)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. It is beyond my comprehension how anybody can want to vote for Romney the flip-flopper who seems to me the sort who will say anything to get elected.

Would he then be known as a liberal progressive or a progressive liberal?

* Nov. 18, 2003 Romney

Was that before or after he consulted the attorneys??

And on what date did he write and offer the constitutional amendment for the state.

Romney is a walking talking PowerPoint presentation. Just too slick...no realness about him. Sorry!

Fred is the only true Conservative.
