But if Romney wins Iowa, he will win New Hampshire and Michigan, and go into South Carolina 3-0. If Romney wins the first two, he is almost surely the nominee. For that would eliminate Rudy, McCain and Thompson, leaving the only man able to stop him in South Carolina a twice-defeated Mike Huckabee and his Christian prayer warriors.
So, two weeks out from Iowa, here are the odds.
Rudy and Thompson each 20-1. John McCain 6-1. He has to win New Hampshire, and even if he wins there, he would be an underdog. Grass-roots conservatives do not like him and would prefer Huckabee.
Mitt Romney 3-2. If he wins Iowa, he is almost unstoppable. If he loses Iowa, he has to come back and beat McCain in New Hampshire. Then it would a Mitt-Mike race through Feb. 5.
And Huckabee? He has to win Iowa. But if he does, he will be the favorite in South Carolina and for the nomination, as well.
Looks like a Mitt-Mike race, with Iowa and New Hampshire giving us by Jan. 9 the two candidates from whom the nominee will be chosen. And isn't that how it usually is? Iowa and New Hampshire choose for America.

Just like it was Rooty and McStain 6 months ago? Give it up guys. If newspaper columnists could accurately assess political campaigns, people would notice and pay them a whole lot more for campaign consulting.
No.
I now believe, like it or not, that McCain will be the nominee and will beat Hillary in the general. I think McCain is our best chance.
McCain/Thompson 2008
Excuse me while I hide my head in the sand.
Again , nobody is buying it .
God help us.
Pure speculation.
The leftist MSM is scared to death of Rudy — even though he is a libeal — because he can CLEARLY beat the Marxist Witch. They will pump up Mitt as much as they can, since they feel he can be beaten by Hitlery. But he probably cannot, in reality but since when has the MSM ever dealt with reality, other than the one they create??? Gonna be interesting....but if Mitt becomes the man for 2008, they will ATTACK HIS RELIGION and demonize it. They are too heavily invested in the Marxist left and defeatism to support anything but Hitlery....

Looks like FRed, doing it his way, is right on track.
IMHO, there are some surprises coming.
And the DBM is gonna be stuttering, “But, but, but, but...”
Just MHO, YMMV.
why are we automatically assuming that romney will take michigan?? just because his dad was governor once? most can’t even remember when that was!
It is possible, even likely, that Romney won’t finish higher than third in Iowa.
Thompson may be very close to Huck in Iowa, and I won’t get my hopes up for anything more than that.
All these “expert” prognostications are going to be no more than waste paper after January 3.

Like him or not, Pat Buchanan is a lot more than a news columnist, and he has, himself, run in presidential primaries.
I would suspect that his background would at least make him your equal in calling races.
The MSM is only scared of one... and that’s Fred. The other liberals the media is excited about because they know Conservatives will NOT show up in November to vote for them.
Yawn!!!!!!
CBSNBCABCWXYZ.
Man, you are one hard poster to understand.
They have been attacking Mitt all along and started the Mormonism attack. You must live on some other planet.
Better not be, otherwise Hillary or Hussein will be the next POTUS.
Go Mike GO! My wife and I submitted our absentee ballots 10 days ago for Michigan and we both voted for Huckabee. I think it is wrong that we beat up Kerry 4 years ago as a flip flopper when Romney is worse than Kerry and Guiliani is a liberal womanizer just like Clinton (who we all beat up on) in the 90’s.
I will always vote principal and honesty over party politics. I will always vote conservative though!
Mike Huckabees surging campaign has created a three-way toss-up in Michigans Republican Primary. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Huckabee earning 21% of the vote. Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, the son of a former Michigan Governor, attracts 20% support while former New York City Mayor is the top choice for 19% of Likely Republican Primary Voters.
Looks wide open to me!
