SAN DIEGO - If there's pain at the pump in the U.S., Mexico may just have a remedy. A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in San Diego retails for an average price of $4.61 a gallon. A few miles south, in Tijuana, it's about $2.54 even less if you pay in pesos.
More and more people appear to be taking advantage of the lower price.
"I used to buy exclusively in the U.S. before gas started really going up," said Patrick Garcia, a drama teacher at an elementary school in San Diego who lives in Tijuana. "Since then, I've been buying all my gas in Tijuana."
The lower prices mean a U.S. motorist could save almost $54 filling up a two-year-old Ford F150 pickup with a 26-gallon fuel tank in Mexico.

We could institute a new official goobermint foreign worker program for Mechichans:
For every 100 gallons you bring with you across the border, you can work legally in the U.S. for one month. But you MUST sell the gasoline to Amurricans at the current Mechicho price.
Remember Mexican pharmaceuticals? Mexican water? Building Codes? Air Pollution? Waterways Pollution? Need I go on?
I guess this is kind of like buying prescription drugs from South of the border... far less regulation and taxes on the fuel...thus it is cheaper?
Does it really cost 60% of what it does here to produce gasoline?
The Mexican gas is heavily subsidized by the Mexican government.
Oil industry is vertically integrated in Mexico and state-owned and run. The cost at the pump is independent of the commodity market.
I think that Mexican autos pretty much run like our, so if they don’t have problems with their fuel, I doubt an American would.
Sssh! Don't give "Stretch" any ideas...
I travel a fair bit to MX. My contacts there have always remarked on the poor quality of PEMEX petro. You might check up on this to ensure the life of your engine is not neg impacted.

Tiajunna gas stunes my beeber
If you don’t care about your fuel injection or having a good running car buy Mexican. It’s not good gas. May as well pick up some tomatoes too.
I usually buy Chevron for my newer vehicles. It costs a few cents more, but really is the best.
I’d need to put about 5 more gas filters on my car before I used that Mexican gas.
Educate me please. Why is Chevron best? I just buy the best price which is usually at my local Walmart’s Murphy Oil pumps or the HEB grocery pumps.
I thought the high gas prices were due to limited supply, so how can Mexico possibly have cheaper gas, do they have more supply? /sarcasm
HAHA good one!
” a drama teacher at an elementary school “
WHAT? Why on earth does an elementary school have a drama teacher? That’s an important subject? Gimme a break!
It’s not worth it. How much gas do they waste idling in line at the border crossing waiting to get back in? San Ysidro and Otay Mesa don’t exactly have short wait times.
Yes, I have been in the oil and gas industry my entire adult life, and I agree. While almost all US gasoline is decent, Chevron gas with Techron really IS the BEST. And low-octane Mexican gas, often contaminated with water due to poor storage conditions, is the WORST.
See#19. That poster has more knowledge on the subject than me. Techron is a bump up from the others.
