There's one good reason Gwen Ifill, the host of the PBS show Washington Week, is moderating the vice-presidential debate: she has a forthcoming book about Barack Obama (and other black Democrats) called The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama.
Ifill presents Obama and the others as the idealistic successors of Martin Luther King: "This book is about a generation of people who took seriously the achievements that their parents fought for. They knew that Martin Luther King did what he did so they can do what theyre doing, and they decided to follow through."

Snip - We have an awkward history about how to talk about race in the nation and in newsrooms, says Gwen Ifill, senior correspondent for PBS The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer and author of The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama, slated for publication early next year.
Not-so-new news.
No they did not...
if they were judging Obama by the content of his character
and not the color of his skin,
they would not be supporting him.
“even Drudge has it up now as a headline ! The FIX is in, this liberal bitch snarled at Palin during the RNC”
Instead of complaining about the McCain campaign agreeing to this moderator, spread the word about Gwen Ifill. People can handicap the debate as they see fit. Also, the more public the knowledge, the more restrained Ifill is likely to be.
We are restricted in our choices. (The Democrats would never agree to Britt Hume).
I'd give Elisabeth Hasselbeck a shot.

The McCain campaign sure dropped the ball on this - unless they allowed it intentionally.
Hey thanks so much.
I’m contacting all of them. Hope others will do so too.
Hint: They are not journalists, they are ad copy writers and spokespersons for the DNC.
The Obamas: Portrait of an American Family Gwen Ifill
My email to the debate email address was returned...but I also sent coplaints to FOX News....I hope this gets play fast!
she has a book praising Obama scheduled for release on inauguaration day and thus has a financial interest in his election.
Let the debate proceed. Exposing her before the gazillions who are watching may be more affective in exposing media bias than replacing her.
Don’t you see? This puts Sarah in a win-win situation. If she does poorly, it will be because the moderator was definitely biased and asked questions to make her look bad. If she does good, which I strongly suspect she will, we can say it was despite Gwen Ifill, and infact, she would have done even better if it would have been a different moderator.
Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama
So it was impossible and unthinkable that we actually get a debate moderator that was going to be benign at the least and more conservative at the most???
More bad news on the Palin debate front. http://michellemalkin.com/
MY Question, WHY DO WE ALLOW ANY OF THESE decisions of complete bias to be made, and act like we have to participate? SAYS WHOM??? ALL Games, and we are the football..... I am livid, anyone else?
“I was appalled by Gwen Ifills commentary directly following Gov. Sarah Palins speech. Her attitude was dismissive and the look on her face was one of disgust. Clearly, she was agitated by what most critics view as a well-delivered speech. It is quite obvious that Ms. Ifill supports Obama as she struggled to say anything redemptive about Gov. Palins performance. I am disappointed in Ms. Ifills complete disregard for journalistic objectivity.
Like Obama, Ifill, who is black, is quick to play the race card at the first sign of criticism. In an interview with the Washington Post a few weeks ago, she carped: [N]o ones ever assumed a white reporter cant cover a white candidate.
(from Michelle) “Its not the color of your skin, sweetie. Its the color of your politics. Perhaps Ifill will be able to conceal it this week. But if the stunning Breakthrough shes rooting for comes to pass on January 20, 2009, nobody will be fooled”
On Thursday, PBS anchor Gwen Ifill will serve as moderator for the first and only vice presidential debate. The stakes are high. The Commission on Presidential Debates, with the assent of the two campaigns, decided not to impose any guidelines on her duties or questions.
But there is nothing moderate about where Ifill stands on Barack Obama. Shes so far in the tank for the Democrat presidential candidate, her oxygen delivery line is running out.
In an imaginary world where liberal journalists are held to the same standards as everyone else, Ifill would be required to make a full disclosure at the start of the debate. She would be required to turn to the cameras and tell the national audience that she has a book coming out on January 20, 2009 a date that just happens to coincide with the inauguration of the next president of the United States. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The title of Ifills book? Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama. Nonpartisan my foot.
Ifills publisher, Random House, is already busy hyping the book with YouTube clips of Ifill heaping praise on her subjects, including Obama and Obama-endorsing Mass. Governor Deval Patrick. The official promo for the book gushes:....”
Set your TIVO, they said Sarahcuda might begin by throwing all this transparent crap at them in the beginning of the debate. NOW that’s a show I’d like to see! Also, Dennis is right on, McCain’s letting them call all the shots, what is wrong with this MAN????
Weren’t you able to read my “sarcasm” not?
not = note
