JERUSALEM – If Pope Benedict XVI so fervently supports a Palestinian state – which would split sections of Israel – he also should divide Rome, charged the leader of a coalition of more than 350 Israeli rabbinic leaders and pulpit rabbis.
"I was shocked to hear that the first thing the pope had to say when he landed in Israel was that the Holy Land must be divided to make room for a Palestinian state," said Joseph Gerlitzky, rabbi of central Tel Aviv and chairman of the Rabbinical Congress for Peace, which includes some of Israel's most prominent Jewish leaders.
"I suggest that he divide Rome. The Holy Land was promised to the Jewish people and absolutely no human being on this earth has a right to relinquish even one inch of this land," Gerlitzky stated.

So do you think the Palestinians should be removed from the west Bank and Gaza? What about those who are Christians?

It wouldn't be politically correct for the Pope to follow the Bible....he's politicking...and in the arena of international politics...he'd rather appeal to the secular authorities. The Catholic Church, in my humble opinion, has done the same thing on the issue of Capital Punishment...I'll quote Scalia, "At least the new doctrine should have been urged only upon secular Europe, where it is at home."

The best thing for the Christians of the West Bank would be Israeli governance...or at least it would be preferable to what they have endured under the Palestinian Authority, especially a state administered by Hamas.

It’s one thing reading and studying it - but watching it all play out is another matter. However; “Fear not, these things must happen before....” Look up, our redemption draws nigh.

With all due respect, Rome is split between Italy and the Vatican.

In a previous thread, where Pope Benedict asserted the human right to life per natural law, I gave him a bravo. But in this, he is being a fool. Islam cannot be appeased, and that is exactly what he is doing. Even worse, he is pitting Catholics against the truth on a very important political issue - and one which the Left will be sure to exploit.

The Catholic Church...on capital punishment or a Palestinian State...are expressing opinions and taking positions that are more in tune with secular opinions of European leaders and are contrary to the Bible.

Thank you...I share that sentiment as well...I’m very much supportive of the efforts of the Catholic Church in opposing abortion or stem cell research, but in this instance I’m appalled!

The Pope should know better and stand up for Israel.

PC is the absence of truth. He cannot claim infallibility.

No Palestinian (Christian or Muslim) has a recognized status by Israel. Hamas is, in fact, the enemy but without recognition there is no place for Palestinians to go. As we all know, Israel did not exist prior to 1948 and wouldn't exist today without US support.
At present, there is no place for the Palestinians who lived in relative harmony with Jews in their homeland prior to WWII -- and yet, you say there is no place for them now -- except in Israel. ???

Never fear...the left wing World Council of Churches...is going to launch a media blitz against Israeli “occupation.” I hope Israelis realize they do have a bedrock of Christians in America...and I hope this isn’t what they see as the face of Christianity.

“Infallibility” pertains only to matters of Catholic faith and doctrine and when the Pope speaks from the Chair of Peter. It doesn’t have anything to do with various speeches or interviews...

As Stalin observed, the Pope has no divisions. Yet using prayer and by turns accommodation, resistance, diplomacy, and patience, the Papacy and the Catholic Church have survived many horrors. Benedict and many of his cardinals saw Nazism and Communism first hand. They expect that Islam or at least the worst of it will pass in God’s good time. Until then, they are obliged to seek to limit the damage it does to their flock and the rest of the world.

Are you joking? Let me cite some examples of "relative harmony":
In 1921, Haj Amin el-Husseini first began to organize fedayeen ("one who sacrifices himself") to terrorize Jews. Haj Amin hoped to duplicate the success of Kemal Atatürk in Turkey by driving the Jews out of Palestine just as Kemal had driven the invading Greeks from his country.31 Arab radicals were able to gain influence because the British Administration was unwilling to take effective action against them until they finally revolted against British rule.
...
In 1929, Arab provocateurs succeeded in convincing the masses that the Jews had designs on the Temple Mount (a tactic that would be repeated on numerous occasions, the most recent of which was in 2000 after the visit of Ariel Sharon). A Jewish religious observance at the Western Wall, which forms a part of the Temple Mount, served as a catalyst for rioting by Arabs against Jews that spilled out of Jerusalem into other villages and towns, including Safed and Hebron.
I can certainly provide better, more detailed examples if you really wish to espouse such nonsense. I can also dispell the myth of "Palestinians" as a distinct culture. The Palestinians can go to Jordan, which was where the original Palestinian state was to be...Arafat was in fact offered to be prime minister of Jordan...but he rejected it...opting for violence...because he wanted war with Israel...this was while Jordan occupied the West Bank. I don't think squatters should be given a state and there violent war on Israel is the greatest forfeit to any such claim or entitlement to such...and let's be clear: WITHOUT THE U.N.'S SUPPORT...THERE WOULDN'T BE A HAMAS...ISRAEL WOULD HAVE WIPED THE OFF THE MAP BY NOW!
