I have a question. Why do conservatives allow ourselves to be called "Rednecks". I'm on YouTube and Digg. When a poster calls us uneducated Rednecks, no one says a word.
Why don't we own this word? Why aren't we framing the conversation? I find it insulting to be called a dumb Redneck. Much more than to be called a dumb Pollack, because at least I'm Polish.
If macaca is insulting, why is Redneck okay?
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people aint afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need
I was raised on beans and cornbread
And I like my chicken fried
Yes, I drive a pickup truck
And Im full of American pride
I keep a Bible on my table
I got a flag out on my lawn
And I dont believe in mindin
No ones business but my own
And I love them Rambo movies
I think they make a lot of sense
And its a shame ole John Wayne
Didnt live to run for president
And I dont care what nobody says
I dont trust ole Gorbachev
And I dont know who turned him on
But its time to turn him off
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people aint afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need
Now theyre tryin to take my guns away
And that would be just fine
If you take em away from the criminals first
Ill gladly give ya mine
And I dont mind payin taxes
But it makes my temper itch
When my hard earned money goes
To make some politician rich
What most people call a redneck
Aint nothin but a workin man
And he makes his livin
By the sweat of his brow
And the calluses on his hands
Now you intellectuals may not like it
But there aint nothin that you can do
Cause theres a whole lot more of us common-folks
Then there ever will be of you
What this world needs is a few more rednecks
Some people aint afraid to take a stand
What this world needs is a little more respect
For the Lord and the law and the workin man
We could use a little peace and satisfaction
Some good people up front to take the lead
A little less talk and a little more action
And a few more rednecks is what we need
Thats what we need
And a few more rednecks is what we need
Notice you had to prefix the term with “dumb” to make it derogatory. The term alone is merely descriptive to those whom it describes. If someone else sees the term as negative, well, that’s their problem; the definition of the term implicitly includes “doesn’t care what others think, goes ahead doing what s/he thinks is right.”
Sorry, it seemed to me you were, judging from this thread.
Better to be the “that guy” that Owen Wilson wants to be on those commercials than the guy he says he realized he was (in the commercial) when he heard himself telling the mechanic that his car made a sound sort of like an espresso machine makes.
I thought that sounded like Owen Wilson in those ads.
On the contrary, I take a great deal of pride in being labeled a Redneck because I work hard and like to earn an honest living in the sun.
Lastly, I served my country for many years abroad and simply don't give a &@%$ what people think of me.
Redneck: It originated in reference to agricultural workers, alluding to how the back of a person's neck will be burned by the sun if he works long hours in the fields. It was the commie elites who turned it into a pejorative.
Redneck:Being from Chicago I can't be a Redneck. BUT if I was called one by some barking moonbat, no biggie. I've been called worse, by better.
1) an uneducated white farm laborer, esp. from the South.
2) a bigot or reactionary, esp. from the rural working class.
BECAUSE WE MIGHT BE ONE!!!!
First and foremost, it's because we are conservatives and we actually BELIEVE in the 1st Amendment!! We don't try to control the actions OR words of others by banning or controlling their words. We also lack "leaders" who will steal the thunder of the left by refusing to allow them to define who we are and what we stand for.
Therein lies the biggest problem we have. We let the left define who/what conservatives/Republicans are, what we stand for and what we do, instead of defining by our actions who and what we are!! IOW, PR is the biggest problem we have.
The Dems are bullys and thugs and a lot of people who aren't necessarily liberals, LIKE that because it makes them feel that the Dems will actually stand up for them (which WE know they won't, but perception . . . . ). Republicans have the reputation of being TOO white and TOO conservative to go "mano-a-mano" with the Dems in a street fight that they might actually get their hands dirty in!! THAT'S why you are called a "redneck" and why they get away with it!!
Bravo for you AND your son!!! Sounds like the Marines got the BEST of THAT deal!!!
We're proud of him, too!!!
I drive a pickup, wear whites socks and I am willing to drink Blue Ribbon Beer :-)
The term, “redneck”, in its original meaning, is not pejorative. Any negative sense to the term has been shaped by the leftists.
Originally, a redneck was a coal miner fighting against the coal companies and their hired enforcers. The coal miners wore red bandannas to identify themselves when the scuffles began. The irony is that these ‘rednecks” were fighting against the very people and institutions that leftists would be fighting today.
The fault of conservatives have been to let the liberals take the terms and identify them to suit their purposes. Conservatives have to push back in the first instance and not let the left frame the debate.
So yes, being a redneck is a good thing.
A very wise fightin' man I know always advised:
"Yawn at an insult".
Once upon a time, that wasn’t such a bad thing. With today being the heyday of the New England RINO, not so any more.
We are called more than that. You have to get over their labels. Ignore them and just keep fighting. We don’t have time to worry about what comes out of their month. Wear the labels with pride and move on.
Definition of Redneck:
In modern usage, redneck predominantly refers to a particular stereotype of whites from the Southern United States. The word can be used either as a pejorative or as a matter of pride, depending on context.
The redneck stereotype:
The term redneck is seen by some people to be both racist and classist, as it is was originally used to describe a person of pale skin that has been sunburned doing outdoor work or field work, and disproportionately applies to the poor. Today, a redneck is a stereotypical southern United States socially conservative, fiscally liberal, rural, working class white person with northern European ancestry.
The popular etymology says that the term derives from such individuals having a red neck caused by working outdoors in the sunlight over the course of their lifetime. The effect of decades of direct sunlight on the exposed skin of the back of the neck not only reddens fair skin, but renders it leathery and tough, and typically very wrinkled by late middle age. Another popular theory stems from the use of red bandanas tied around the neck to signify union affiliation during the violent clashes between United Mine Workers and owners between 1910 and 1920.
Some historians claim that the term redneck originated in 17th century Virginia, when indentured servants were sunburnt while tending plantation crops.
A redneck is usually typified in popular culture by a straight male with a beer belly that consumes cheap American beer such as Busch or Miller by the case (Pabst Blue Ribbon in more traditional settings) as well as Jack Daniel’s. They are generally distrustful or dislike anyone not like them or the government. The stereotypical redneck lives in a trailer, and drives an old, large, beat-up pickup truck with a gun rack in the rear window. He generally wears a stained, sleeveless t-shirt, blue jeans, and a trucker hat.
Their hair is generally worn in the mullet style, and they favor long sideburns. Personal hygiene is a lost concept with the stereotypical redneck, and what teeth they have left generally show the complete anthology of the stages of dental caries. Their favorite activities include hunting, shooting at road signs and lights, professional wrestling, NASCAR, monster truck rallies, car engine repair, collecting junked cars and large appliances on their lawns, having way too many children and dogs, participating in domestic disturbances, and waiting around for their welfare checks. Country and Southern Rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd figure in as their preferred genre of music.
Stereotypical redneck females have similar characteristics and interests on a feminine scale. They are most often seen barefoot, pregnant and wear Daisy Duke shorts with stiletto heels.
I personally think that all racial slurs carry the same weight, however, when it comes to “the n word” it seems like it is a greater evil.
Thanks everyone!
You made me feel much better.
There are even RED NECK DOGS
LOL
