Fish Vs. Farmers

Delta smelts: Preferred over humans.

Delta smelts: Preferred over humans.

Environmentalism: Sen. Dianne Feinstein votes to deny water to California's drought-stricken San Joaquin Valley. Farmers, families and food are being held hostage to an endangered fish called the delta smelt.

There was a time when the San Joaquin Valley was the most productive agricultural region in the world. It was a large part of what made the Golden State golden.

Now it's a place where farmers no longer farm, but instead line up at food banks to feed the families of those who once fed the rest of the country and a good chunk of the world.

The largest man-made agricultural disaster since the Dust Bowl of the 1930s is unfolding in the valley due to yet another attempt to protect a fish declared to be threatened under the Endangered Species Act. This damage is being done to protect the hypomesus transpacificus, otherwise known as the delta smelt.

Last December the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, in its finite wisdom, issued something called a biological opinion imposing water restrictions on the San Joaquin Valley and surrounding areas to protect the habitat of this tiny fish. The authorities forget the species homo sapiens, also part of the ecosystem, is threatened.

Its habitat is being destroyed — by government edict.

To protect the smelt, billions of gallons of water from the mountains east and north of Sacramento have been channeled away from farms and into the ocean, while farmers watched their crops wither and their once-productive land become barren.

I know that.

The point is that the entire state is going to suffer the consequences, not just the agricultural areas.

The foos in San Fran, San Diego and L. A. will suffer.

True, they will not suffer as much as the person who loses their farm and their way of life, but they will suffer.

CA is going to go totally bankrupt and this only makes that day arrive sooner.

If the water were turned on today it would be too late for any crops this year. The damage has been done. The fight now should be to get the water by early spring.

Exactly - it's a grifter operation and should be fought accordingly. In situations like this they're after the water, the land or both. If the farmers can't hang on and are finally run off with the land falling under "new management", at some point in the future I would expect a sudden and quiet "breakthrough" with the fish situation resulting in the water coming back on, accolades abounding at how wonderful it is that environmentalists and landowners can work together for the common good, blah blah blah. Something like this was once tried on a friend of mine - the crooks lost in federal court.

I am expecting that land to be the perfect spot for Obamas solar/windfarm. Green jobs anyone?

The farmers need to bring this to a head one way or another. What I would suggest would be for them to turn the water back on. If it takes bloodshed, so be it. They will not be any worse off.

ery few, if any, know what we are facing. We are facing individuals that are completely and totally depraved. Their only god is power and they will do whatever under the sun it takes for them to gain and keep it.

We are dealing with and expect to be treated decently by individuals who have no decency. We expect to be shown mercy by people who not only have mo mercy but do not know what mercy is.

They need to show them what Americans were made of in the 1900s and go in mass a to turn the water back on and bust anyone that tries to stop them.

But that is a individual choice each soul has to make. I have made mine. I have made peace with my Maker. I will not serve and kiss obama’s rear end. I will die fighting as a free man. My last breath on this earth will be as a free man.

The largest man-made agricultural disaster

Bummer has declared that man made disasters are another word for terrorism. So this is the largest agricultural terrorism.

This act of domestic terrorism was caused by U.S. Fish and Wildlife, unelected leftist radical true believers.

Recall that Article 1 Section 1 grants all legislative powers to Congress. That means ALL powers, not just the easy ones that cannot threaten individual’s reelection.

It is just another crime against our Constitution and people that untouchable bureaucrats have illegally been given such incredible tyrannical power over a once free people.

The fact that the water pumps kill some smelt doesn’t mean they are a threat to the species. This is just enviro-whacko terrorism.

Feinstein is a true American Communist practicing similar actions as did Stalin against the Russian farming peasants in the Ukraine!

Stalin must be this despicable woman's hero!

When will Californians awaken from their drugged sleep which we observers in the rest of America perceive as an Orwellian nightmare?

Down with Feinstein! Down with the central government's drive to shove our nation into the pit that is pure communism!
