Mysterious Group Buys Building Next to Ground Zero For Mosque Wednesday, December 16, 2009 Jim Hoft

A mysterous Muslim group with unknown sponsors has purchased a building steps away from Ground Zero. Hudson New York reported:

An identified group with unknown sponsors has purchased building steps away from where the WorldTrade Center once stood — to turn it into potentially one of the largest New York City mosques.

At the moment the building, the old Burlington Coat Factory, already serves as a mini-mosque: an iron grill lifts every Friday afternoon for a little known Imam leading prayers a few yards away from where Osama Bin Laden’s airborne Islamist bombers killed nearly 3000 people back in 2001.

The Imam, Feisal Abdul Rauf, told the New York Times — which put the story on its front page Wednesday — that he has assembled several million dollars to turn it into ‘’an Islamic center near the city’s most hallowed piece of land that would stand as one of ground zero’s more unexpected and striking neighbors.’’

The 61-year-old Imam said he paid $4.85 million for it — in cash, records show. With 50,000 square feet of air rights and enough financing, he plans an ambitious project of $150 million, he said, akin to the Chautauqua Institution, the 92 Street Y or the Jewish Community Center.

They do not share the same sense of decency that most of the
West does. Note: they always say they will not harm the
‘innocent’in their own defense, but only Muslims are really
innocent, all other need not apply.

“Co-founder of the Cordoba Initiative. He is also Senior Program Advisor to the Garrison Institute, an institution dedicated to applying the wisdom of contemplative traditions to issues of civil society.

“Between 1991 and 1999, Mr. Bennett served four terms as mayor of Aspen, Colorado. He also helped create an acclaimed education program, The Aspen Institute High School Great Ideas Seminar: The Good Life and the Good Society, which remains active and successful today.

“Before embarking on his career of public service, Mr. Bennett was a successful businessman, founding and operating a small chain of restaurants in Colorado, Texas and Mexico.” [1]

It will never happen..one unfortunate incident after another will destroy it...I promise...

It's interesting that you can make that promise from CA. In any case, the union thugs in NY will build anything they are told to build.

The NY Times says the building was purchased by an investment company led by the Cordoba Initiative, an "interfaith" group founded by Imam Feisal. There is no mention of whether they plan to build minarets

http://www.cordobainitiative.org

The Times article doesn't say whether there are plans to build minarets.

Just like Mecca and Medina, lower Manhattan is Holy Land and unbelievers should not be permitted there. Turn about is fair play.

The West is nuts on this issue. Nuts, naive, stupid, dumb, idiotic. Far too many are completely unwilling to recognize Islam for what it is and what it intends for the West. I wish more people would actually read the Koran. That would explain things to them. But no, they’d rather pretend that Islam is just “another” religion, with differences no more significant than the ones between Baptists and Presbyterians.

The Mayor and the City Council should vote for a special assessment and special zoning use of the building...because NY’ers and Americans in general won’t go for this AT ALL.

LOL. The mayor and the city council are so dysfunctional and leftist that they make the U.S. Congress look competent, sane and strong (for the U.S.).

From December 6-9, Imam Feisal will be participating in the Parliament of World Religions in Melbourne, Australia with such leaders as the Rev. Jim Wallis, His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Jimmy Carter, and Dr. Tariq Ramadan. He is presenting on Islam and Muslim-West relations, as well as leading a dhikr session.

Found the foreign money. The Cordova Institute is funded in part by the Malaysian government and has offices in NY where the 9/11 hijackers hit, as well as officies in Kuala Lumpur, where the plot to bomb the USS Cole was developed.
