Megachurch Pastor Asks For Urgent Donations
Warren wants $900,000 by Jan. 1, says church facing budget crisis
Dec . 31, 2009 LAKE FOREST, California - Evangelical pastor Rick Warren appealed to parishioners at his California megachurch Wednesday to help fill a $900,000 deficit by the first of the year.
Warren made the appeal in a letter posted on the Saddleback Church Web site. It begins "Dear Saddleback Family, THIS IS AN URGENT LETTER."
"With 10 percent of our church family out of work due to the recession, our expenses in caring for our community in 2009 rose dramatically while our income stagnated," the letter reads.

Rick should get a job. Jerk.
Didn’t Warren support Obama? Perhaps he needs a refresher course on ‘reaping & sowing’.
did he take a pay cut?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..........
Didn’t see that. Apologies!
Warren is an idiot.
Our church saw what was coming and has tighten its belt and in good shape.
Not being aware of the “signs of the times” is not a lack of faith, but stupidity.
You kissed Zeros hindquarters...now live with it Warren.
I admit I don't know much about him or his church. But his situation is typical for quite a few charities. As need arises, donations have fallen, and many of these charities are really hurting.
For now, we do have the right to donate or not to donate to charity as we see fit. If socialism really takes hold, look for government to go even further into the charity business, corrupt it and leave the private charities to wither on the vine.
I’m sure his buddies in DC can whip up a TARP rescue for him.
Read Chapter 11 of the 3 translations.
They say in effect “if they ask for money they are false”!
Maybe he can threaten his flock that “God will take him home” if he doesn’t get the money, like Oral Roberts.
Yes, did Rick himself take a 10 percent pay-cut? And after that...did the upper management of his church also take a 10 percent pay-cut?
My church has had to reorganize and right-size this year. Warren needs to look for ways to cut expenses at Saddleback so they can divert resources elsewhere.
Right on! Way to go!
The Bible teaches Rick and me to live within our means.
I’ve had a bad year too. Perhaps I should have sent out a Christmas appeal with my cards for everyone to send me money too. (sarc/off)
I do not think Warren draws a salary at all today? In fact, I think he has given back every cent the church had paid him in the past. He lives off his royalties. He has made a big deal out of him doing this and then telling people he has done this.
I don’t like any of these mega-church corporations in the first place and Rick Warren can go screw himself in the second place. Nah, change that - Put Rick Warren screwing himself in the first place!
