How to remove a US president?
3/25/10 | conservativesister

I've searched FR, googled, and wicki-ed, the only thing I can find about removing a president is :

The House of Representatives has the power to bring articles of impeachment against a president. If articles are brought, then the president is considered impeached (but not guilty). A simple majority of the vote is sufficient to bring articles of impeachment.

Article 2, section 4 of the Constitution indicates reasons removal from office. "The President, Vice President, and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."

Obviously, The House isn't going to listen to the people, my question is what rights do the people have for recall (like Gov. Davis) or removal of the President?

Correct. The Senate refused to considered the case presented by the House.

What’s interesting is that the articles of impeachment for Clinton were almost identical to those prepared for Nixon (worked up by a couple of young staffers, Hillary Clinton and Web Hubbell, IIRC). Lying to the American people was one of them. Certainly we can make that case against zero, but the Congress would never consider that now.

BTTT

Exactly, we must take the majority of the House AND the Senate, by as large a majority as possible this November!

"what rights do the people have for recall"

Every leap year the citizens can exercise their eight to recall a President.

Impeachment or the threat of impeachment as with Richard Nixon, thus forcing a resignation. You might be able to force a resignation in other ways, but it would not be easy.

LOL ... I remember seeing that process as part of the storyline in the TV series "24" -- with Jack Bauer in it.

It was interesting to see how it worked in that storyline of that TV series -- but -- I don't think you've ever seen that even attempted in this country -- to force out a President, against his will, much less successful.

Do you know of even one such ... mere "attempt" (and not saying "success" either) to force out the President against his will, using this method?

Don't worry about impeachment - - - you cannot impeach someone who was never LEGALLY elected. Congress would have no "impeachment" capabilities if Obama was found to have never been "properly (legally) elected."

You would have authority to "just" remove him from the White House and proceed with legal proceedings to vast to list.

Actually, Hillary was involved in an attempt to deny Nixon a lawyer during his impeachment. This is detailed in the article at this address. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1571/is_n26_v12/ai_18469254/

“All of the kickbacks, and vote buying and lying may be bad character, but are not illegal.”

Wrong, they are called bribes and they are impeachable offenses.

You were saying ...

I've searched FR, googled, and wicki-ed, the only thing I can find about removing a president is : ...

I will warn you, though... there are FReepers who have solutions to getting rid of the President -- other than Impeachment/Conviction and/or Elections.

I've read from some FReepers that all that is needed is a judge to issue an arrest warrant for Obama, and order a U.S. Marshal to execute the arrest warrant and we would see Obama being hauled out of the Oval Office in handcuffs on the evening news... doncha know... :-)

Also, another method I've seen FReepers posting about is that the U.S. Military can "oust" Obama simply by surrounding the White House with tanks and demanding that he leave, or they will blow him up and/or the White House and him in it. And so, that was another method suggested here on Free Republic.... :-)

And then, I've even seen other FReepers say that there is no problem removing Obama because he is not even really the President, since he wasn't born here. And since that's true (that he's not President, "really" and since he wasn't born here) -- you don't have to go through those Constitutional provisions -- since he isn't President in the first place. They would just send in an ordinary police officer to arrest him and be done with it, doncha know... LOL ...

Of course, there were those who said the Supreme Court could order a new election, since the last election was a fraud and that Obama wasn't qualified. So, all that is needed (or all that was needed) was for the Supreme Court to order that new national election.

Or a variation on that was that the Supreme Court could simply order him removed since he was never qualified and the next in line would take his place (or some variation of that).

I mean..., if you want to "go nuts" (and there are those who "go nuts" here on Free Republic) -- there are a whole bunch off ways to get rid of Obama and out of the Oval Office... doncha know... LOL ...

Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.”

Sounds like a slam dunk to me!
