N. Korea Deploys Mortars and Multiple Rocket Launchers at Sino-NK border

122mm multiple rocket launcher, the same type N. Korea deployed at the border area.

N. Korea deployed 82mm mortars to border guard units.

Each border guard company now has a fire support platoon equipped with 82mm mortars. Each platoon has at least 4 mortars. The process started in February and is now complete.

Border guard units used to be armed only with light weapons such as rifles because their main mission is to deter people from illegal entry to or escape from N. Korea.

Border guard units now have firepower equal to regular infantry units.

The explanation N. Korean authorities gave (to its population or soldiers) is that it was for deterring invasion by S. Korean commandos through China.

Radio Free Asia also reported on May 26 that mortars, recoilless rifles, and machine guns were deployed to border guard units.

Hmm... 122mm MRL is quite useful for shooting at escaping refugees. This is aimed at PLA across the border, just in case they have a 'funny idea.'

The Norks know that if there is a war, or a continuation thereof, that the Chinese will likely sieze their nuclear facilities. They are in the far north near the border, the Chinese helped them build them, of course.

Kimmy Poo is about to learn the same lesson that the Somali pirates learned when the messed with the Russians. You can screw with the Western Democracies their reaction is predictable, and you will usually get away with it. When you screw with another communist dictator your life gets very interesting, and usually rather short.

30,000 DPRK military personnel are required for such an effective operation as this. Locations are PyongyanBukdo and HamgyongBukdo areas. They expect trouble with China, a Chinese strike against the Republic apparantly. Reading on Japanese wires now, too. Work finished in Februar apparantly. These are mobile units alright.

Just to clarify, this is on their border with China? I saw the comment about the Chinese seizing their nukes. But if NK is trying to repel China on the North and defending against SK/US on the South then this isn’t your grandfather’s Korean War.

This sounds like the time when I was fighting with my brother. My mom tried to break us up. I took a swing at her.

Bad idea.

Not only did I get the crap kicked out of me by my brother. But them my mother took her turn.

And then my Dad came home.

The Norks look like they are ready to take a swipe at their mom.

Kim Jong-il is dying and he is crazy, so I say he plans to turn North Korea in to one he77 of a funeral fire!

Right. If the backdoor is no longer secure, you cannot do much at the front-door.

Maybe the Iranians and Syrians would like a piece of the action. A three-front brush fire for us and Israel.

Correction: Hmm... 122mm MRL is not quite useful for shooting at escaping refugees.

Yep, it sounds like Beijing is getting tired of it’s demented little cousin and is getting ready to make North Korea a Province in the PRC.

If China were to play this right, they could easily pull South Korea into their sphere of influence by immediately working towards reunification. All they would have to say is “Move the U.S. off your soil and we can start to put Korea back together”

China would then have a strong industrial ally with a decent military in the North Pacific. Of course, they would have to clean up all the suicides in Pyongyang when lil’ Kim is announced dead.

Holy crap!! I sure hope this doesn’t disturb Obama’s mini-vacation. He’s already going to miss out on part of it by having to go to the gulf for a photo-op.

When you screw with another communist dictator your life gets very interesting, and usually rather short.

Good point and an interesting concept.

China could absolutely own Bambi and the Euroweenies by swatting the annoying NoKo biting fly. It could be the watershed event that solidly cements their status as the newest and soon-to-be most powerful superpower — economically, militarily, and diplomatically.
