actually by extending unemployment benefits for another year... unemployment will go up because all those bums will just sit on the couch for another year.

Obama’s announcement of the deal was, for him, just another opportunity to trash Republicans. If I were one of the Republican leaders who negotiated this deal, I would tell Obama that any negotiation requires mutual respect for the points of view and the constituents of both parties. Since he does not have the common courtesy to make a joint or simultaneous announcement and since he criticizes the good faith of the Republicans, any supposed “deal” is off the table until he acts like an adult and agrees that both parties were acting in the best interest of the people.

I would disagree that the deal is in the best interest of the people. It seems to be in the best interest of the two political parties. The people wind up owing more and paying more in the long run.

So what? The GOP has the chance to improve the economy starting January 5, 2011. With the tax rates extended and a few more cuts added, there’s a better chance folks will find work and not utilize the whole 13 month extension.

GOP isn’t going to improve the economy, at least no time soon. They are still not the majority, and they are not setting the agenda. The best they can do is stop or slowdown Obama.

The EPA, Ed., FCC and Energy are also in need of a good budget slashing.

Good one Bob!!!

Now that the framework has been announced by the soon to be lame duck President, we see that taxes will be status quo for just 2 years, new spending, in addition to changing unemployment insurance to welfare through the next to X-Masses by borrowing more, and new higher taxes on dividends, while still threatening small businesses with not being able to plan beyond 24 months......The Repub leadership has once again played "Deal, or no deal" with the dems and snatched defeat from the jaws of a hugely victorious election victory!!! Damn!!!

They've done it again and must NOT be allowed to get by with it like they almost did on immigration reform a couple of years ago!!!

“Correct. This is the reason we’ve lost so many family farms and businesses over the years. Anyone who’s estate is tied up in property or equipment ends up having to sell it to pay the death tax. It was all written about in Das Kapitol. “

I oppose estate taxes in principle, don’t misunderstand, but, presumably they are sold to other private owners? In other words, the government doesn’t get the stuff.

“unemployment will go up because all those bums will just sit on the couch for another year.”

I don’t support the unemployment benefits extension, but should you call all the unemployed “bums?” I know two men well who have needed work for about a year and they are hardly bums. They are skilled; they have good references; they are looking; and they are not finding any work.

There are no doubt FReepers on unemployment right now. Everyone receiving unemployment insurance is not necessarily sitting on the couch.

Where I live there are “help wanted” signs everywhere. Anyone still unemployed at this point doesn't want a job, or is holding out of a better one because the unemployment check allows them too.

Candidate Obama promises to let Bush tax cuts expire "for the rich." Now the left feels, of course, betrayed. They are finally noticing what the rest of us have known for some time: Obama is a disciple of Machiavelli.

"The promise given was a necessity of the past: the word broken is a necessity of the present."

As I kept saying before the election, after the election Obama will start working on 2012. In fact it was Rick Santorum on FNC Cavuto who said (before the election) that Obama wants ALL the cuts extended for his own political survival (related to the current bad economy not ideology) but has to play this “I am a hostage” game because he cant win in 2012 without his liberal base either.

So last night you could see a liberal civil war on MSNBC over those that felt betrayed by Obama and those that repeated Obama’s lame blame Republican excuse. I have a acute sense of when something makes sense as Judge Judy always says, and Santorum's logic struck me as on target.

This one was a great post if you caught it in time:

Very interesting, Rush said that he can't gloat about Obama’s cave-in because it could kill the Obama deal. He says he can't give his personal opinion of it on the show.

But then he is talking about the cursing of Obama selling them out at the Daily Kos (just like at DU). He is going on about my exact prior points:that Obama gave in on what he previously for years called tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires.

Still there :Democrats Lame Duck Suicide (or Isn't it fun to watch the meltdown?)
