The Wall Street Journal ^ | 3/6/11 | KRIS MAHER and AMY MERRICK

Posted on 03/06/2011 5:29:34 PM PST by Ogie Oglethorpe

The leader of the 14 Wisconsin Senate Democrats who left the state last month to block legislation that would curb public-employee union rights said the senators plan to return "in the relatively near future," because negotiations with the governor have failed.

Correction: I am sure they don’t want to be arrested and be recalled so they have to come back.

Schultz won't cave, trust me. These Republicans are completely behind Walker.

What Walker and the GOP should have done, however, was pass non-budget bills. Things like Voter ID, environmental laws, and repealing the state's smoking ban should have been passed.

If this truly is a solid block of unapologetic, conservative Republicans, I’ll seriously consider moving to that state.

You should. Once Walker passes this bill, it'll limit the power of the unions and Democrats.

Plus our two football teams kick ass!

They are going to have to return before 30 days are up because that is when the Gov can declare their seats vacant & hold new elections.

And what happens if they return, pick up their checks, and run away again for another 29 days? Are the Republicans going to chain them to their Senate desks? Perhaps this is the theater they intend to partake in?

If they return and run again, the Repubs should take the gloves off and just pass Right to Work.

Just hide and watch. The GOP has caved in....as usual. Gutless and pitiful.

No they haven't, at least not in Wisconsin. Don't post that crap unless you can back it up.

Dude, I live here and have followed this fight since it began. Since the Rats fled, there is NO compromise or deal in the works. Walker will get his bill passed and that’ll be the beginning of the end of both the unions and the Democrats in Wisconsin.

Did you read the full article? Apparently the RATS now feel it will work to their benefit to let the bill pass.

I am not making this up.

Where did you find that? I thought there might be some time limit but I hadn’t found that yet. If you can point me to where that is I’d appreciate it.

If Gov. Walker and the Pubbies were really smart, they would make the Dems think they had enough Republican senators ready to cave just to get them to come back.

I would guess the Senate Majority leader declares the seats vacant, and then requests the governor to issue writs for special elections. the governor needs to issue the writs.

I think they kept the law together, to muddy the water - so to deny the DEM talking points.

In Ohio, John Kasich had all this stuff passed without any fuss or bother. In Indiana, Gov. Daniels passed this stuff about three years ago and the savings have already been extraordinary.

The next big fight is in New Jersey, where Gov. Christie is trying the same thing.

They are already guilty of contempt and subject to a $100/day fine while they are away from their job.

Upon their return, they can be held by the state police.

I can’t believe they didn’t do that. It would have been a perfect chance to play the game the Dems wanted to play.
