According to draft guidance circulating around the Defense Department, military personnel would be required to work without pay if the government shuts down, reports the Air Force Times.
That differs from the 1995 shutdown when U.S. troops reported to work and were paid, the article states. But the 13-page contingency plan, in which DOD highlighted which parts of the military would continue to operate if the government shuts down, states that this time the military would miss a payday if a shutdown continued through April 1.

I back tracked your posts, and saw your explanation, and clarification. Thank you so much!
My husband is former Navy, so I know the kind of stuff you have to go through, and I know how the military can be caught between a rock and a hard place.
I certainly don’t wish the “hard place” for any of you.
You dedicate your lives to serving our great country...and I respect you more than you will ever know.
“It was operational guidance.”
I am so sorry...and I hate that.
“not sure why they are doing it differently but they are.”
For one thing, they hate the military more than Clinton did, and they aren’t as politically astute as Clinton was.
Not to mention Cloward-Piven...chaos.
It’s tough to believe, but I do now. Read this post, and keep on reading.

If this is true, for the first time in my life, I’m ashamed of my country.
military pay stopped during a past govt shutdown, I think it was in the 70’s?
We always had direct deposit, I remember our bank posting a gratis “no interest” loan to our account for the amount of our normal paychecks- have been with the same bank always in appreciation (Now Bank of America)
It was short lived as I recall, only one payday
Nelson, I don’t understand. We were also in for the last shutdown. The Army got paid. There was a bunch of fear and hoopla, but we didn’t even have a blip. Military is considered essential, and we never had an issue.
Heck, we didn’t even have a problem with TDY compensation.
Why should the Feds have police and fire fighters? Where is that authorized in the supposedly “limited and defined” Federal Constitution?
Why should the Feds maintain a redundant prison system why not just rent State prison space?
I believe Federal police are the FBI. As I said it was a generic government list and they were probably talking about state governments as well.
I should have looked farther before posting.
But I still maintain that with federalized crimes there should be federal prisons.
Defund both of em as far as I am concerned the FBI have no business existing.
Domestic matters should be the Provence of the States.
therefore the Federal goverment should have very limited uses for non-military prisons.
I am so overwhelmed with pride when I see how many people support our troops. It is unbelievable that not paying our military would ever be an option. Now all I have left to say is call it AWOL all they want but if we stop getting paid, my husband will NOT be reporting to duty along with just about every last soldier in the US. Our men and women who are still overseas will NOT be concentrating on their task at hand rather they will be worrying over their families at home. Question: Do you use what little money you have saved to fuel your vehicle so you can report to duty or do you choose to feed your family and try to keep your lives from completely falling apart? America needs to not shoot itself in the foot.
And of course, the quislings on the hill will continue to operate unhindered with paychecks intact.
This sorry excuse for an administration disgusts me.
I had to bump this up again. There have been other articles updating this issue...and I HOPE you know see that you were wrong. This was NOT BS. It is serious. It did not help the matter that so many out there, especially HERE on FR did not take this seriously but thought it was a bluf...or thought it was lies "promulgated by the White House."
Well...I am here to tell you it is NOT a lie. I just checked my LES (Leave and Earning Statement). It is available alreay from MYPAY for the check I will get on the 15th. It is a little more than 1/2 of what I normally make....which means I got paid for 1 - 8 Apil. Which means if the shutdown lingers into May...I won't get a check at all....and neither will any other AD member.
So...maybe if everyone would have done a little more listening...and a lot let talking like they know it all...we could have put the necessary pressure on the congress and Obama to at least pass the Defense Bill.
Hmmm...looks like you were wrong. Many of us tried to tell you all this.
Just got my LES for the 15th. I only got paid for 8 days.
Just got my LES (for the 15th). I got paid for 8 days. The reason there is a difference is back then the defense part of the budget had been passed. It hasn’t this time. Military will NOT get paid. Proof is in my (and everyone elses) LES.

yea, I know and I corrected myself later in the thread.. we just got our LES too so welcome to the club. in the eyes of the DNC, we are secondary to abortions.
Whisky Tango Foxtrot. Over.
Yeah...THAT's constitutional.
Sorry...didn't see the correction. Just a little (still....) hot over all these freepers...most of them old timer-know it alls who have been on these threads saying the military was going to get paid and this was White House propaganda. If the majority of these people would have just listened to those of us who had seen the guidance from our comptrollers from the BEGINNING...then maybe we would have avoided putting off this debate until the last day. We could have actually put a coherant message out there about how BHO wants to defund the military and starve Private Snuffy's wife while he's in the field fighting. But too many were on here (as they typically do) spouting off about something they knew nothing about.
There... /rant :-)
hang in there.. my concerns are mostly for the families of the guys overseas. I read somewhere that the aide societies are going to make assistance available in the form of loans. It’s a drop in the bucket but at least it’s something.
I never thought that we would have a President and CinC that would allow this to happen. Maybe if they closed all the golf courses he uses at Andrews and Belivor, he might be inclined to sign the military portion of the bill.
And yes...why he would do this is beyond me. Well...I take that back. I do know better...
