Republican Gay Rights Group Demands Apology from Santorum
CBS News ^ | September 23, 2011 | Lucy Madison

Posted on 09/23/2011 10:01:23 AM PDT by lbryce

Members of the conservative gay rights group GOProud are demanding an apology from Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum for what they call his disrespectful comments directed at a gay soldier in Thursday night's GOP presidential debate.

"Tonight, Rick Santorum disrespected our brave men and women in uniform, and he owes Stephen Hill, the gay soldier who asked him the question about Don't Ask, Don't Tell repeal, an immediate apology," said GOProud's Christopher Barron and Jimmy LaSalvia in a Thursday night press release.

During the Fox News/Google-sponsored debate, which took place in Orlando, Florida, a gay soldier deployed in Iraq asked the candidates if they would take measures to "circumvent" the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," if elected president.

Some audience members audibly booed the soldier -- a moment the GOP candidates on stage chose to ignore.

GOProud also noted that Santorum, who answered the question, declined to thank the soldier for his service, and called the repeal of DADT "social experimentation" - and "tragic."

"I would say any type of sexual activity has absolutely no place in the military," Santorum responded. "And the fact that they're making a point to include it as a provision within the military that we are going to recognize a group of people and give them a special privilege to -- and removing 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell,' I think tries to inject social policy into the military. And the military's job is to do one thing, and that is to defend our country."

I hope you're right, but I haven't seen any evidence of intestinal fortitude among the current crop of candidates.

I was a career officer in the service and if this policy to allow gays to serve openly stands, I will do everything in my power to keep my children out of the service.

The reason for a military service is to train and prepare to defend your country to the best of your ability - not to serve as a dating service for deviants.

All through out this thread I - and others - have demanded that trumandogz clearly state his position on gays serving in the military.

Direct statements, challenges and questions  - here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here have been made by numerous FReepers:

Are you in favor of gays serving in the military.

He won't answer them. I normally don't call for the zot if there are only 4 or 5 vague answers that might lead one to think someone is pro-gay. But 10-11 times (and more) trumandogz refuses to answer a fundamental question regarding a basic conservative value?

What's up?

My answer is quite simple and I have stated it several times.

I opposed the repeal of DADT.

Therefore, I oppose gays serving openly.

And I understand that if they serve in secret, there is nothing that can be done as their orientation is not known to others in the military.

Is it possible that he doesn’t want to discuss the issue with you?

Now that it has been determined that we are required to answer each others questions.

Should we eradicate the names of gay service members whose names are now on the Vietnam Memorial?

No. They died in service to our country.

However, I do not believe that homosexuals belong in the military.

Unless your name is Jim Robinson, does he have to?

And there we are. You oppose them serving openly.

But you are OK with them serving secretly. That is, you were OK with DADT.

Only those names identified as serving while openly homosexual.

“Do you oppose homosexuals serving the the military whether secretly or openly? YES or NO.”

Nice try Wagglebee. But he ain’t answering that.

As I’ve said all day - trumandogz is nothing but sneaky and evasive. So I’ve been calling him out as a pro gay military troll.

Now, He opposes the repeal of DADT? Whoop-de-do. Why won’t he simply state that the military should return to DO ASK - DO TELL?

And that if you answer yes to being a homo on your indoctrination forms, then you are shown the door and told to get lost.

You see, secretly gay or not - Homosexuals have no place in the military.

But trumandogz will not admit that.

Why are you so obsessed with my answering one question when you refuse to answer a simple question?

Would you boo the gay who served in Iraq or Afghanistan, or advocate scrapping the names of gays off the Vietnam Wall or would you exhume the bodies of gays who are buried in our Veterans Cemeteries?

Scroll up troll. I’ve answered those questions.

Here are the answers again.

1. Yes I would boo any gay soldier who made it his goal to disgrace the military.

2. Yes I would scrape any gay names off the Vietnam Wall. Show me a name and the designation “Gay” beside it. I’ll scrape it off.

3. Yes I would exhume bodies. Show me a body who can claim he was a gay soldier - I’ll dig him up myself.

Are your listening to how stupid your questions are?

Look. You can hypothesize about non-existent issues all day long.

And you can keep ignoring the simple questions I and others have put to you.

But you cannot deny that you are pro gay military.

She used the term “Queen of Fabulous” to describe her self, she also has dated the likes of Bill Maher. Hannity told her if she mentions Chris Cristie one more time on hsi show he will start talking about her leftist boyfriends......

She is nothing but a closet liberal waiting to turn on us after she pockets millions......

So what would you call her?

It wasn’t “Queen of Fabulous” I objected to, and I’d guess you know that. I wouldn’t call her, or any woman, a sl*t. Apparently admin mod agreed.

I'm sick and tired of these small minority groups receiving so much attention: they are a dis-functional lot that need
extensive therapy and counseling.

Yes. They do. Their mental illness is no different than stating they're Napoleon or Cleopatra. Their dysfunction is mental and needs treatment, not acceptance.
