Fried food heart risk 'a myth'
The Telegraph ^ | January 25, 2012 | Stephen Adams

They say there is mounting research that it is the type of oil used, and whether or not it has been used before, that really matters.

The latest study, published in the British Medical Journal, found no association between the frequency of fried food consumption in Spain - where olive and sunflower oils are mostly used - and the incidence of serious heart disease.

"The problem is all the oil that tastes good is bad for you."

That is not the case at all. Grapeseed oil is delicious, as are almond oil, walnut and pecan.

Chicken Fried Bacon / Sausage Gravy Dip
Another reason why America will ALWAYS be on top. The beautiful, greasy details:

Chicken fried bacon consists of bacon strips dredged in batter and deep fried, like chicken fried steak. It is an American dish that was introduced in the early 1990s. Frank Sodolak of Sodolak’s Original Country Inn in Snook, Texas, is credited as having invented it. It is usually served as an appetizer with a white “country” or cream gravy for dipping and sauce….

In recent years, the dish has made its way across America and it is served in Chicago at the Risque Cafe in Lake View.…and Jake’s Dixie Roadhouse, Waltham, Massachusetts......…lovers of fried bacon speak passionately about its qualities: “The moment when the crackle of the crust gives way to the fatty, salty taste of the pork is truly transcendent.” …Jane Hurley, senior nutritionist at the Center for Science in the Public Interest in Washington, D.C., stated she’s “never heard of anything worse.”

Thee is such a thing as edible tobacco.

And it is one of the highest sources of the B vitamins on the planet!

They knew very well when one of the B vitamins was discovered that it was closely related to nicotine. One of the names is “nicotinic acid”. But they decided at the time that they didn’t want people to make that association and think smoking was good for you, so they gave it the generic name “niacin”.

Burning the tobacco DOES destroy it, so you can’t get your B vitamins by smoking...

"Spaniards have a different diet than Americans. They don’t consume fried foods like Americans do."

And they have a different lifestyle. Businesses close their doors after lunch for a couple of hours for siesta, usually with wine.

There are lots of ups and downs to this.

First of all, the best way to gain weight is the combination of carbohydrates and fats. However, if you are overweight, eating little or no carbohydrates, and a lot of protein and fat, and you will likely lose a lot of weight.

A high carbohydrate and low fat diet can be very bad for your health, possibly creating a fatty liver, high triglycerides, etc.

Coconut oil is a rarity, in that it is a “medium chain triglyceride”, which is absorbed directly and does not have to take the extensive route that most fats and oils do to be digested. It is very useful for people who have a hard time with their digestion of fats and oils.

BS. Here is Marlene Alphonse's background info: graduate in English Literature. Also hold a diploma degree in Translation Techniques. Interests and Hobbies: Reading and listening to music are my favorite ways to beat stress. Writing gives me a divine pleasure and allows me to scale new heights in this beautiful world of creativity and imagination.

This woman is nothing more than an enlightened liberal who hates anything GMO and thinks that weeds are pretty little plants that should have civil rights.

Think I'll stick with the doctors on this one. Ms. Alphonse is obviously playing loose with her creativity and imagination.

I certainly believe that your diet affects your health and that some aspects of the American diet must be bad -- we are getting pretty fat after all. But the competing claims against this or for that are pretty frustrating.

When people do Atkins, HCG, or Paleo diets the weight comes right off. It's pretty clear that the government food pyramid and its ridiculous overweighting of grains is the main culprit.

Because most of your body's energy expenditure is through fat oxidation? And fat is the primary fuel of the heart (and glucose for the CNS). If you're consuming a diet that is in excess of energy needs, the protein and glucose are preferentially burned, shifting substrate oxidation away from fats. The excess energy intake, in the form of dietary fats, is then stored in adipose tissue.
