Obama: Soldiers in Afghanistan Must Be Fired Upon to Receive Combat Pay
Big Peace ^ | 2/11/12 | John Bernard

While I understand that only a fraction of the population of this nation is directly affected by what you are about to read, I would never-the-less like to remind you that the remainder of the population is affected coincidentally. While the majority of the American population probably never even considered the Armed Forces as a possible career objective, there are those who never considered life without serving their country, in uniform, on a field of combat. Most of these young men and women never take the time to internalize some idealized vision of charging death for God and Country,

It’s now pro-rated by days in the month I see, which is fair enough, but is it also pro-rated by days on which shooting battle actually occurs versus days when the enemy force is lurking and isn’t shooting?

How about a law that says he doesn’t get paid if he doesn’t do his job. He has not solved a single problem, and in fact, has made every problem worse.

I doubt that Obama initiated this, because he is too stupid and timid, but to go along with this shows the he is a putz of the first order.

“IIRC, Slick Willy had tried something similar with combat pay and the award of CIBs and combat patches to personnel in Somalia prior to October ‘93, refusing to admit that our personnel were involved in any combat.”

My Marines and I were denied the Combat Action Ribbon in Somalia. Apparently we only imagined the 4 fire fights we participated in.

Fair enough, but a paperwork, or it's electronic equivalent, nightmare. Do they require each troop to 'file' separately, or do they go by units. It would be possible to do it automatically from the orders, but I wouldn't count on that being the way they do it.

We all know about his hatred for our military. You can see it in his eyes when he has to be around a soldier. hell he even wrote it in one of his so called books that the soldier and the sight of the American flag makes his blood run cold.
As for me and mine, the American soldier, no matter what branch, are true heroes and are to be treasured as the keepers of the American way.Photobucket

Probably have to add a clerk to each platoon or maybe just a couple to the company, or equivalent, just to keep up with the accounting. Of course they’ll add the clerk by taking away a slot from the sharp end, be that an infantry type, or a maintenance troop, someone contributing to mission accomplishment rather than “paper pushing”

The orders sounds like the most logical way. They have to figure the time of troop presence in the field whether it is in granularity of days or granularity of months.

Holy Crap! 49 responses before anyone even questioned the source or the info! And this is at least the second thread on this I have seen myself. FReepers, I know you hate Obama, but this is the dangon internet for crying out loud. Check your sources.

In fact, I’ve known people who intentionally delayed their return stateside to the 2nd of the month

This was SOP when I was in. Anyone with enough rank to influence their own flight arrived on the 25-30th and left on the 1st-5th.

Perhaps we should require Il Douche [and Congress] to do their job in order to receive THEIR pay.

So a Marine gets killed by an IED and they send his wife $7.50. Get this SOB out of office before he gets everybody killed.

This is the third time I’ve seen the story here. As someone who has first hand knowledge of the change, let me tell you combat pay isn’t being pulled. The old rules were that you only had to be in a Immiment Danger Area for 1 day to receive an entire month’s worth of combat pay ($225). What you would get would be a lot of what I term “War Tourists” who would show up on the 30th and leave on the 1st, thus getting two months of combat pay for a few days. Also, you would get “Tourists” who would only seem to show up in Iraq/Afghanistan to drop off their gear as they would spend many days in Germany on “official business.” The DOD has broken down the $225 into $7.50 daily incraments (sp) and will now distribute it on a daily basis. Personally I think this is a good idea to combat waste. Also, while we’re at it we should look at was consitutes an Immiment Danger Area. As of now places like Turkey (a PCS post), Kuwait, and Manas (where Soldiers/Airmen can take MWR trips off post), receive combat pay. That makes no sense. If anything I’d rather see the Korea guys get combat pay before those posts since they have an entire enemy Army North of them and everyone knows the job of the 8th Army is to act as a speedbump long enough for the rest of the military to get to Pusan.

If this is true than our POTUS is pathetic.

If true, then may I humbly suggest that the POTUS may not receive US Secret Service protection until HE IS FIRED upon?

Denying the tiny pittance that is combat pay to most in the combat zone shows far more about this administration and president than all his praise of armed forces. That praise comes out as sarcasm and this is his gotcha.

Screw that. I’ll be impressed when the pRESIDENT throtles back on Mobama’s vacations with her entourage. Vaca Gal’s expenses likely dwarf all of our warriors’ Combat Theater pay, combined!

It should be simple. If your commander says here is a gun, ammo, and you have to wear your helmet and body armor, then you should get combat pay. If you are a pilot and they give you a pistol, ammo, a blood chit, and a much better survival radio than you get in the States, you should get combat pay.
