Marines, civilian police officers conduct urban training exercise(What Posse Comitatus?)
WNCT Channel 9, North Carolina ^ | August 23, 2012 | Tony Rawlings

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. - Training at Camp Lejeune Thursday looked and felt real -- and that was the point. Law officers and marines from across the country ended their training with a bang.

Thursday was the final day of exercises for law enforcement and marines who have gone through special reaction team training at Camp Lejeune for the past three weeks. In the final exercise, teams were presented with a series of real life scenarios as well as hands on instruction to handle them correctly.

Brian Dye, Operations Chief of I&I in Lexington, Kentucky says training civilians as a blended force with Marine Corps personnel eases the transition into a real world scenario.

"I think it's always good when you get an opportunity to work on some similar tactics and procedures so that everybody's kind of operating on the same page. That way when you bring teams together from active duty and the civilian side, it makes the integration a whole lot smoother."

The tactics trainees take away from this course just may help save lives. This three week SRT training course is phase one for law enforcement and Marine Corps personnel. Phase two will focus on sniper and designated marksmanship training.

So far you have attacked me personally over and over, but about nothing to do with this thread.

Nope. I just know from your own posts that you don't mind the heavy hand of the Fed Gov, so long as it is not directed at you. Your hypocrisy is showing. Stop whining about it.

Do I think there is a need for Special Weapons And Tactics units that can be called in to do hostage rescue, terror response, and similar missions? Yes.

Do I think every town of 10,000 should have a SWAT Team with a million dollars worth of DHS gear and armored trucks? No, and this is clearly what is happening.

You call it knee jerking and we call it healthy skepticism. If we are wrong no harm no foul. If you are wrong huge harm and huge foul.

Is my owning a fire extinguisher and wearing a seat belt knee jerking as well considering I am probably not going to have a wreck resulting in a fire?

They are training in American urban scenario

Uhh actually, MOUT Town on Camp Lejeune is based on Kosovo and was later added onto to include a Middle Eastern (Iraq)setting....so unless your area of America resembles Albanian style housing or an Iraqi mud hut...... nice try.

That was pretty good too. You are a good ambassador for the Corps. Well, I suppose I would be a pretty poor ambassador if I didn't speak up when someone is trying to maliciously attack Marines with unfounded slander and stating it appears the Marines are preparing to go take down American cities.

all because some weekend warriors were training with guys that are police officers in their day job

Excuse me, but did they change the definition of "integration" when I wasn't looking?

"And of course, there aren't any civilian military police either? (yes actually, there are)"

Civilians are civilians, despite what Hollywood and civilian academy instructors say. I'll rub that in again. They're civilians, and most of them always been civilians. And most of them are useless couch potatoes, who've watched too much television. They try to dress like something other than civilians (as seen on TV), but they're still civilians. They call others civilians, because they don't feel like men.

If you think throwing your 1998 sign on date gets you more respect than my brother in arms fighting overseas, you are sadly mistaken...I just spent a few moments ready your posting history. I recommend others do the same...seems you think we deserve the purple lipped bastard for four more years and the destruction of our country.

Seems also you tend to put your money on the wrong choices.

One might think you've been FReeping far too long.

I sure haven't attacked Marines. I did take exception to you attacking a SEAL who is as damn concerned as I am about what is happening. A BILLION rounds plus to Fed Gov agencies. Military training with civil law enforcement who are already too militarized.

I would respect you more if you were a little less comfortable with all that.

For the benefit of the doubt, once again, thanks for your service. Your oath still stands. That means you are on my side.

No, but thank you for taking my post out of context. Stack = a column/line of guys posted up along a building. MP on point, civilian cop as 2 man, MP, CC, MP all in a column (stack) about to practice doing a hostage rescue.....that would be integration IN TRAINING. If the NYPD has all their guys in a stack, LAPD has their guys in a stack, and the MPs have their guys in a stack, they are only learning what they already know. They are not learning from each other.

It doesn't mean that tomorrow LAPD is going to role into downtown with Marines from some reservist MP Company with and artillery battery in support.

Do I think every town of 10,000 should have a SWAT Team with a million dollars worth of DHS gear and armored trucks? No, and this is clearly what is happening.

And I agree with you.

Is my owning a fire extinguisher and wearing a seat belt knee jerking as well considering I am probably not going to have a wreck resulting in a fire?

No it isn't a knee jerk. But if I were to accuse of being a reckless driver because only a reckless driver would need a seat belt, that would be a knee jerk on my behalf.

You call it knee jerking and we call it healthy skepticism. If we are wrong no harm no foul. If you are wrong huge harm and huge foul.

Being skeptical is one thing. I'm skeptical of the millions upon millions of rounds of ammo fedgov just bought. The original posts to this thread were that I&I was Intelligence and Interrogation and that these guys were about to lock down Anytown USA like it was "Escape From LA." I didn't know what unit was training, so I went and actually attempted Due Diligence and looked up that it was a MP unit (it'd be a different story if an infantry unit was teaching squad tactics to police). I provided reasons based on observation and experience for why this training is occurring.

But for some reason, it just has to be that I support a police state in the US and get off on violating civilian's Constitutional Rights. It can't be that I have difference of opinion, or that I am familiar with the training....it has to be that I am some jack boot because I don't want to fall in line with the herd mentality.

I’d recommend more than a few minutes of review as you’ll find I have no more respect for your “brothers in arms” who happen to also be idiots, than I do for “purple lipped bastards” (whoever could you mean?)

Besides, my 98’ sign up date means I’ve been here long enough to know a jarhead that bows up at a SEAL gets nothing but “laughed at.”

We have a difference of opinion clearly.

As to the sign-up date's importance is that I have been reading and posting to some of these people for over a decade and I don't know you from Adam.

Finally the poster that goes by Travis McGee is a former Navy SEAL that I DO know from Adam. Would you expect me to take the word of a long time friend or a total stranger on the Internet?

Finally I certainly wouldn't believe my lying eyes. Especially with a kenyan klown muzzie as pResident.

“Can somebody explain to me why the active duty military is training civilian police from around the nation to work WITH them in combined operations?”

Because in numerous places overseas, our police work with our military to help train their foreign counterparts.

During a tour in Bosnia, I met several cops who were there to train the locals. Many times they would be embedded with the local police, who we also had to work with at times.

This sort of training is nothing new.

A BILLION rounds plus to Fed Gov agencies.

Please re-read this thread where I specifically stated I AM NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.

Military training with civil law enforcement who are already too militarized.

Again, please see earlier in the thread where I stated I AGREE THE POLICE ARE TOO MILITARIZED. I gave very specific, very limited reasons for why such elements as SWAT should exist and what they should be used for.

I was just saying today, that if it were up to me, there would be no state troopers and no town police; only county sheriffs and that the American people would be by and large responsible for own security and safety on the streets of America.

That said, there are police elements in the US that more than likely have more experience doing SWAT type missions than a bunch of reservists and ergo, the reservists could learn from them and the SWAT teams would receive pertinent and useful training as well.

Which if it is outside of the parameters I laid out; hostage rescue, [legitimate] terror response (stand off with a suicide bomber type of deal), or facing off with Al Capone/the Mexi-Cartel then, I don't agree with them [civ cops] receiving SWAT training. Nor do I agree with having para-military police that are out shooting dogs and doing no-knock raids (which I stated earlier up thread).

I did take exception to you attacking a SEAL

I didn't know he was a SEAL; however, if I were to start loud mouthing and saying the SEALS were turning this country into the USSA because of entities they train with, I would certainly hope he (or any other SEAL) would put me in check and explain why they are doing what they are doing (within classification and OPSEC standards of course). Your oath still stands. That means you are on my side.

I can't believe it took this many posts for you to see that.

Believe it or not, I am about as for limited government as they come. I don't even have the military double standard that I'm for it if it's "defense." There are many military "benefit" programs that I think need to be gotten rid or changed (even sacred cows like some of the tenets of the new GI Bill) because it isn't right and a waste of taxpayer money. And I certainly don't believe in using the military as a police force. I never have - it goes against every principle this country was founded on.

Hell, I even believe that Dixie should've been allowed to peacefully leave without Lincoln's (spit) intervention. I certainly don't believe troops should have been sent in to make us stay....let alone being used as police.

Yeah, I didn’t know the marines trained in female debate tactics.

But I guess I should apologize, though you’re probably only one of three actual males in fourteen years that’s impugned the clarity of my writing.
