WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Frustrated by their inability to wring more "fiscal cliff" concessions out of President Barack Obama, Republicans in the U.S. House of Representatives announced Tuesday night that they expect to pass their own tax bill as a backup plan to avert the tax hikes and automatic budget cuts set to occur in January.
No one expects the bill, which would extend low tax rates except on income of $1 million and above, to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate. President Barack Obama's latest position puts the threshold for income tax hikes at $400,000. While the move, called "Plan B" by Republicans, may not prompt Obama to give further ground in his negotiations with House Speaker John Boehner, it could allow Republicans to argue they did what they could to stop tax hikes and the full impact of the "fiscal cliff," which the Congressional Budget Office and economists have said could trigger another recession.
"Why not put on the floor something that's what most Americans think the president is talking about, which is protecting from tax increases everybody but truly millionaires and billionaires?," said Republican Representative Pat Tiberi of Ohio. When it dies in the Senate, he said, "that's not our problem. We can't be held responsible for what the Senate does."
Polls have consistently suggested that the public is likely to blame Republicans for failure to reach a deal ahead of the December 31 deadline for action. After important concessions in recent days from both Obama and Boehner, Republicans expressed frustration that the president had not moved further. Hey there, you Reuters jerks who wrote this article, what were the "important concessions" from Obama? You must be deliberately deceiving your readers, just as the MSM propagandists generally do.
As long as the Republicans are in the mood to pass bills in the House, why not vote again to repeal Obamacare as another move toward fiscal sanity? It would also be good political strategy.
Obama offered to limit some cost of living increases in current SS benefits to seniors, at least that is what was reported yesterday and his supporters seemed to believe it.
This is smart on his part as most probably vote Republican.

The tax increases are automatic so O has it easy there but he is also demanding a debt limit extension to sign any tax rate extension bill.
This is why the bill Bohner is passing is important : extending rates for below $1M.
That allows him to point out that O is rejecting tax cut extensions for 99.9% of voters until he gets increases in the debt limit, meaning he is holding our taxes hostage.
The problem is that some Republicans are saying they oppose the extension too, the one O is rejecting. This just shows that only one side is determined to win , and it starts with D

When FDR got Social Security passed it had only 53,000 beneficiaries. Easy to see how it passed.
The problem arose as this morphed into what we see now which is 60,000,000 beneficiaries, bankrupting the program. There is your 99.9%.

Bohner’s bill extends the Bush tax cuts for all income <$1M which includes ME.
If you are calling for this bills defeat AS THE LEFTISTS ARE then you are calling for my income taxes, and 99.9% of Americans to be raised to the Clinton levels.
But what is so bad about your position (if you want this bill defeated) is that you are not willing to admit that you are demanding that most Americans pay higher taxes, which is what the leftists really want. If you want higher taxes then admit it.

Our COLA for 2013 is 1.7%. Big frigging deal!! That is, according to what I've read, a paltry net gain of between $10 and $25 per month. So how much of the measly 1.7% do the RATS want? LOL.

O is playing up to the camera as usual claiming that Rs are getting everything they wanted, and just ‘playing politics’ with voters taxes. He says he has ‘more than compromised’
His objective : Continue to lower public opinion toward House Republicans until their own district voters turn on them, then he delivers his terms for their (another) humiliating surrender which they sign, much like the German govermnment at end of WWI.

Oh no, it is the so called “fiscal cliff” that transfers responsibility for the bad economy to conservatives. Where the Republican Party is truly failing us is in getting tangled up in the minutae of the so called “fiscal cliff” negotiations instead of pounding on the state of the economy at large and asking a simple question, “how will any of the President’s policies help?” Make the ONE go on record and explain and own how his policies will jump start the economy. Instead, LOSER BONER accepts the MSM premise and plays the role of desperate fool trying to solve the fiscal cliff to avoid a recession.
I get how the voters blaming Bush for the last four years would rattle the Republicans a bit. But to think that the voters will always blame Bush is nonsense. This is no reason to stop pushing the economy and its current state as an issue.
This election truly does remind me of 2004. Kerry pounded and pounded on Iraq as being a disaster but lost. Bush thought he won that issue and had the American People firmly in support of the war. Instead of concentrating on Iraq, he thought to move onto other issues (then it was social security reform, today it is gun control). But the democrats did not stop pounding the issue and withing six months it was obvious that they were going to ride the public’s frustration with Iraq to power.
