Michael Sullivan defends shifting message on gay marriage

GOP U.S. Senate candidate Michael J. Sullivan defended his shifting message regarding gay marriage tonight as Democrats and even Republican rival Gabriel Gomez blasted him for flip-flopping on the hot-button issue.

“This is no flip-flop, no flip-flop at all,” Sullivan told the Herald in a phone interview. The former U.S. Attorney had strongly declared his belief that marriage is between a man and a woman this morning. By the afternoon, however, he had sent out a statement saying he wants to overturn a federal ban that denies benefits to spouses who live in states that have legalized same-sex marriage.

“Marriage is a state’s rights issue,” said Sullivan, adding that while he still believes marriage should be between a man and a woman, “People should not be discriminated against.”

Sullivan’s clarification comes as Democrats launched an attack against the Republican candidate — who is the only one in the special U.S. Senate election who is against gay marriage.

Nor is it to me. But it is being used to distract while the nation is undergoing a fundamental shift towards marxism.

Let the issue be decided in localities and refocus the discussion at the national level on the destruction of our Constitution.

Can’t marry a minor.
Can’t marry a relative.
Can’t marry more than one spouse.
Can’t marry someone who’s spouse refuses to divorce them.

But barring that, any MAN can marry any WOMAN. No discrimination involved.

Great conservative hope? The guy Gomez looks like a BS artist me with his cookie cutter “I’m an outsider” message.

From Gabe’s website

http://www.gomezforma.com/issues/

“I oppose discrimination of any kind. Same sex couples should be free to marry.”

“I am a proud Catholic, and pro-life. But Roe v Wade is settled law. Politicians spend way too much time on divisive issues that are already decided and far too little time on fixing our economy.”

“Climate change is real.”

“The President and the Congress must act now to forge consensus and compromise to close the gun show loophole”

“Most undocumented workers are hard workers who contribute to our economy. It is time to bring illegal immigrants or undocumented workers out of the shadows, and offer an opportunity to obtain legal status, even citizenship, if they are willing to pursue it.”

Knowing little about Sullivan who does not have a site up AFAIK, I’d take Sullivan.

There’s a name for people like Gomez. It’s called a “Democrat.”

Unfortunately, the fact that it’s silly won’t kill it. I can’t even imagine how it qualifies for argument. The parts don’t jibe.

Getting the court to force the Federal government to pay benefits to same sex couples is a ‘states right’ ??
I am all for states deciding their own abortion and marriage laws, I have been for a long time, and that is exactly what DOMA lets them do.

GWB's ex-spokes-woman fat smily faced toad Nicole Wallace was on MSNBC Maddow (Mad-dog) the other night bragging how she signed that letter with other Republicans asking the SCOTUS to overturn DOMA.

They are safe to expose themselves NOW, as Maddow says 'to progress on those issues' once out of office.

RE :".... overturn a federal ban that denies benefits to spouses who live in states that have legalized same-sex marriage.

That is not true, opposite sex couples in the gay states still get the same benefits as they always did.

spouces? Is that what we call them? Maybe the court will forbid the Fed laws to use the terms 'husband' and wife'.

Scott Brown turned out to be as useful as a eunech in a whorehouse. No reason to think someone like Sullivan who couldn’t stand up to the pro sodomite crowd will be any different. Thoroughly sick of these morally bankrupt Ma. turds.

People in Massachusetts DID NOT decide on gay marriage! The Mass Legislature blocked and delayed it until it was not allowed to go on the ballot. This went against the Massachusetts constitution which allows citizens to sign petitions to place legislation on the ballot. We were NEVER allowed to vote on the matter.

The issue then went to a liberal Mass Supreme court which denied the people the right to vote. Mitt Romney chickened out as the law was never actually passed.

Don’t you love how Lynch just had a change of heart about abortion when he decided to run for the US Senate? There is obviously a rule in the Democrat party, if you want to move up to the higher ranks of the party you have to sell your soul to all of the pc platforms of the liberal wing of the party which includes abortion, gay agenda, evironmentalist, etc. etc. No free thought allowed in the Democrat party and it seems to be spilling over to the Republican side as well.
