National Security Agency officials are considering a controversial amnesty that would return Edward Snowden to the United States, in exchange for the extensive document trove the whistleblower took from the agency.
An amnesty, which does not have the support of the State Department, would represent a surprising denouement to an international drama that has lasted half a year. It is particularly unexpected from a surveillance agency that has spent months insisting that Snowdens disclosures have caused vast damage to US national security.

No, Edward.
No, no, no, no, no. A thousand times no.
Even 0hbama admits he lies.
Take a look at last week’s newspapers and read about the U.S. gov breaking their promises to both active duty, and retired American Military.
If our own gov willingly and openly betrays millions of Americans, what will they do to you? Esp since they have the ability to off *anyone* and make it look like a tragic accident.
Motives (and Snowdens) are a dime a dozen. The problem is not Snowden's specific motive, but that someone in Snowden's position could get away with stealing so much sensitive data without being caught.
You should be angry at the officials who deserve to be arrested for not obeying their sworn oath, not the whistleblower!
No, I'm mostly angry at the technical staff who set up the inadequate security safeguards on the data, and the officials signed off on those safeguards. That process was beyond the ken of those elected officials.
I don't care about Snowden. He did a great service for America and he betrayed America. How do you parse that? It might come out in a trial, but there will probably never be a trial. America's future is important, Snowden's future is not.
No, I'm mostly angry at the technical staff who set up the inadequate security safeguards on the data, and the officials signed off on those safeguards. That process was beyond the ken of those elected officials.
should say:
No, I'm mostly angry at the NSA technical staff who set up the inadequate security safeguards on the data, and the NSA supervisors who signed off on those safeguards. That process was beyond the ken of elected officials.Bah.
Sorry but you are wrong. The US returned a Russian seaman Simas Kudirka in the 1970’s after he physically jumped his ship and swam to an American one.
When he was returned, he was sent to a labor camp for nearly 10 years before we got him out (I think it was Reagan who did it).
There might have been some Cubans who were also returned (Elian Gonzalez, as an in loco parentis case).
By the way, Snowden should be shot as a traitor.
The more copies laying around, the higher the risk of one being found. If he even knows where there's a copy, then he becomes a target for being tortured into giving it up.
Yes, it’s a very dangerous game Snowden is playing.
Not too many people have the combination of courage and intelligence to pull such a thing off.
I wish him well.
Snowden would be a sellout for taking amnesty, assuming it’s not a trick. He didn’t do what he did for money.
His mother was born in Brooklyn, therefore, he was an American citizen by birth. His release was based on that criteria...nothing to do with the asylum rules between the USA and Russia.
Are they just using this to test him and discover more information? If he hasn’t handed off the documents, then he would try to go for their deal?
He sought amnesty because he knows exactly what his fate would be if he returned or exposed himself. He’s not about to backtrack on his decision to seek asylum.
That’s what I would think but this whole amnesty thing is puzzling to me.
Are they trying to put the Russians on edge, cause the Russians to spy on Snowden or worse by putting this out there?
They have a reason for throwing this out there, I wish I could figure it out.
first, Obama told Russia to MYOB when we were informed about the Boston bombers. And we were told about them more than once.
Then there's the chem weapons in Syria...Russia got that done...not the USA. AND the USA NEVER could prove who "delivered" the chem weapons that killed so many. Russia had it right again...the USA should stop supporting the muzzie rebels...they're murdering Christians right and left.
Amnesty....Putin must be laughing...IMOW...Obama is a stupid man. We know he lies. His own people knows he lies. They will execute Snowden as soon as he steps out of Russia. He is safe here.
Add commies to that list because the rebels who aren't fighting for Islam to rule are fighting for communism. At least that's what one of the lead rebels told a news outlet a few days ago.
So if the rebels hate a dictator so much-- why would they fight to have communism or even Islam? The communist lovers are the supposed moderate rebels.
Communism and Socialism are making a roaring comeback. It seems the whole world, even the USA is rushing towards it. It breaks my heart.
Pure PR.
They want to be able to say "We offered him amnesty, and he refused!"
Anyone with a brain knows the U.S. government can't be trusted.
Until we replace the ones who authorized NSA and authorized their actions, meaning legislators who don’t have any reason to OBEY their Oath of Office, we will not have corrected the situation. The technicians and engineers who designed, maintained or operated NSA do not share the blame for the inception or poor operation practices because they could not authorize any step of the problem. THE LEGISLATORS ARE THE PROBLEM
How does one “return” electronic copies of documents?
Genie is out of the bottle.
Oh rllly? Thanks E. Pluribus Unum.
White House says Snowden should still face charges in U.S.

You're right - Snowden is treasonous scum.
"Another hint of his whistleblower conscience, aside from the telltale hoodie: Snowden kept a copy of the constitution on his desk to cite when arguing against NSA activities he thought might violate it."
Can you believe that? HOW DARE HE question the tyranny!
mann up and posting us which little faggot you mean in a present participilant kind of way
