What is Free Republic? How does it work? What's in it for ME? [Practical advice for beginners.]
Welcome, and Thanks [Newbies Especially, Please Read] ^ | May 21, 2003 | RonDog (and FRiends)

Posted on 05/21/2003 1:33:29 AM PDT by RonDog

I have been asked by a group of politically active "not-yet-FReepers" (at my local NRA chapter) to explain to them (in forty-five minutes or less) how to use this extraordinary forum.

They would like for me to tell them:
What (exactly) **is** Free Republic?
How does it work?
Why can it do for ME?
I of course have MY OWN ideas about this place, but what do YOU tell people who have never been here before?
How do YOU use this forum?
Why do YOU visit here?
What advice can YOU give to "newbies" here?
Perhaps the BEST way to demonstrate the power of Free Republic is to post a thread, and ask for YOUR advice.
What say YOU, my fellow FReepers?

I say this because there still be a chance for neophyte FReepers but anyone who is actually reading this is most likely already doomed.

You said it Bill! I am doomed, but happily so. The best thing about FR is that a conservative finds out they are not alone. In the outside world, you wonder if you or "them" are from another planet!

You are basically right, except that:

FReepublic is HUGH!

It is also a place for SERIES discussions!

And we don't like LOOSERS!

(it is also like crack cocaine so people with hugh series discussions about loosers should be warned)

What is Free Republic?

Free Republic is a large train station of infotainment, where lugguage is repackaged as "threads" and passengers hand their luggage over to porters, known as "freeper-mongers," for safe-keeping until the journey has concluded. This infotainment is for the pleasure and safekeeping of the general public. This is obvious to anyone with even a small amount of Internet experience.

How does it work?

First, the luggage is transported on large wagons, carrying barrels and barrels of "info"-mation. Platters of pancakes with lots of syrup are passed up and down the aisles by porters, where passengers feed until they are sick. This is why FreeRepublic is known as a "sticky" site. Then, passing under the halls of Congress, the info is whisked into malls, movie theatres, and nightclubs, where the general population can consume it in a threatening and gorging manner. This is known as "discourse."

What's in it for ME?

A thicker waistline, a thinner wallet, and a livelier debate experience than you can get on any of the cable channels or broadcast television. You may not know this, but everytime you post on FreeRepublic, a small amount of money -- know as "free-cash" -- is deducted from your bank account under the guise of telephone utility taxes. The reason for this guise is so as not to upset the general public.

Thank you, and enjoy your experience at FreeRepublic. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Not to worry - you are not alone...I am fairly new here also and am learning my way around....
In the crazy world of whiney and misinformed this is a welcome homecoming everyday!
You will become clearer and clearer on your own personal views and analyze your thougths and different subjects more and more coherently.
You will find out how loving and caring are the Rebublicans, The right or whatever you call them.
The propganda on the Left/Democratic party - is that Republicans are uncaring etc...all have money...etc...don't care about the 'little guy' --etc...
That is who we really are - the regular guy and girl working hard, striving to better our lives, not whining, taking responsibility for one's self and not asking for handouts.
My hubby and I are in a very 'liberal' business - Music/arts -in a liberal State (at least New York City)--
We belong to 3 different performing unions...and get their newsletters in the mail...which of course included photos of fellow union members at the anti-war/anti-Bush marches. Would they publish those of us who attended Pro-America/Support our Troops rallies? I do not think so...
I have found that these liberals do not think things through with much common sense.
The older ones were just raised that way and still believe the propoganda.
Keep your spirits up and Welcome to the exciting world of self-thinkers who love GOD FAMILY COUNTRY and the desire to Help,Love and Grow.
Borders-Language-Culture GOD BLESS OUR MILITARY
p.s. you really should check out the USO CANTEEN - a glorious and wonderful thread!

FRee Republic is a conservative (Not Republican) news and information forum. For me, it's more reliable a source than the local daily fishwrap.

FRee Republic works by simply getting on www.freerepublic.com, finding a place to read/lurk or post, and going to town!

What's in it for you? A home and a family, if you want it.

Yeah well that's all good and fine but you forgot to tell 'em about the obligatory atomic wedgie. To be administered to all newbies. Newbies are also required to pony up one to two rounds for the house, depending on how poor I, uh I mean we, are.

I take my tequila with salt and lime, thankya.

Ok, I'll cover the basics:

What is Free Republic?

Pretty much the coolest and most addictive place on earth.

How does it work?

You post your opinions, kick liberal butt, and occasionally ZOT. Cool, huh?

What's in it for ME?

The satisfaction of knowing that you are helping make a democrat-free America.
Oh yeah--and having fun!! ^^
