Rush: "..No way MoveOn.org can even match Free Republic"
Rush Limbaugh Radio Program ^ | July 7, 2003 | Rush Limbaugh

Posted on 07/07/2003 10:43:40 AM PDT by Matchett-PI

Did anyone else here happen to hear Rush mention Free Republic around 1:20 PM Eastern time? I was taping his program, but the tape ran out just as he mentioned us. To the best of my ability, I'll try to remember how he led into it:

In the context of telling everyone to quit worrying about moveon.org, and the influence they have with people, he said that if you want to see what REAL influence is, just let Drudge turn his site over to activism and you will see "REAL influence".

He said that if he decided to have another "Dan's Bake Sale" type event --- you would also get to see "REAL influence".

Then he said, "Heck --- no way moveon.org can even match Free Republic" for REAL influence.

It's based on ranking, the number 1 representing the highest ranked site. FR has been ranked by Alexa in the top 1000 Internet sites for most of this year.

Rush has used FR for years, without giving us any credit. The threads are a large part of his show prep; the problem is, he doesn't ever use this " news " intil it is at least a day to a week old and FREEPERs have jawed it all to death.

During the impeachment mess I did some research at my local university library which has an excellent history selection. I found an obscure passage about an opinion of one of our Founding Fathers. I mentioned this little tidbit I'd found on a thread on FR and the very next day I heard a talk show host mention the very same piece of info I had found tucked away in a dusty old book.

The moral of this story is, we may never know for sure if we have influenced anyone with our info. FreeRepublic is a big river of communication and we are constantly throwing little paper boats with messages into it not knowing where the info will end up. It is all designed to keep us humble, I am sure. But, I'll tell ya, writing on FreeRepublic is a lot more satisfying than writing a letter to the editor of some lamestream newspaper, only to get a rejection letter in the mail.

Free Republic is show prep for the "world"

Yes it is and quite a few radio and TV producers/hosts/newsfolk use it as such BUT there is a problem...sorta.

In fact right now I'm putting together show prep for 2 morning radio shows in Pittsburgh. We use a couple of prep services (Dr. Don and Daily Aardvark) as do most other shows. A few of thier "top" items for today"

Buddy Ebsen dies
Barry White dies
Bush >leaves< for Africa
Bush's fav movies is "Blackhawk Down"
Is it Saddam on tape?
Bounty on Saddam & Sons
US forces to Liberia
Nevada brothel offers freebies for servicemen.

Not very timely, eh? But that is the problem. Radio and TV are alarmingly incestuous. If I pull prep from FR (or some other net sources that most FReepers draw on, to be fair) it is SO FAR AHEAD the audience tends to be put off!

Because FReepers are worldwide we tend to have folks near the scene of just about any developing story.

Remember when the DC snipers were nabbed? A FReeper - I forget who...sigh - who lived near the rest stop was online that night and posted there was action going on and it looked big. He kept us up to date and we could piece together what was going on. So much so that by the time our morning news started I had much more info than the networks or our newswires were sending.

But even our morning news guys were wary until they saw the same info coming in over our other sources.

That's just one incident, there are LOTS more and probably better examples, but you get what I mean.

Many times FR is DAYS ahead of mainstream sources. We SMOKE DRUDGE and as far as I'm concerned taken online news to the Next Level.

In fact FR - and certainly NOT moveon.org - is a historic communications development and tool for freedom much as pamplets during the revolution.

Thanks again JR!

Heck, we don't just lead, we inspire. During the election debacle it was Freepers that led the street brigades the leftie morons called "mob for hire". Heck, I never even got my check :-). There were less than 40,000 FReepers in 2000 but it looked like we were out in force and impacted beyond our numbers. What scares the left is that we're not a silent majority anymore and they can't handle that.

Rush should be giving Freerepublic more credit than he does, or should I say more publicity than he does.

Couldn't agree more.

Remember the shuttle disaster? Leadpenny had a live thread going that was mentioned in the lamestream news for breaking the horrible info several seconds before ANYONE, which in today's world, is equal to a couple of hours five or ten years ago.

Thanks for pointing out the continuing usefullness of FR.

Those who have not had a real movement in over 2 1/2 years are desperate for a new magic remedy......

At taxplayers expense as usual......

Somehow I cannot feel their bottled up pain......

Guess they will have to hold it until they get home again......

That may take a long while......

JFK had his mythical tails of Camelot......

BJ only gave them a taste of Capistrano......

A farce with no 3rd act......

No amount of beer batter would make those crappies digestible, much less palatable. ;-) LOL

You wouldn't actually expect Rush to admit his membership or his handle, do you? And who would believe, a post if that person said "Hi, I'm Rush Limbaugh?" I think most would think that person was a fake. It would be great to exchange posts with Rush, but the thread would probably explode the site. And would he have time to bother with us? Come on, the man has his hands full. That would be like wishing you could sit in his living room with him and have a couple of beers, you know how many would like to do that? Heh.
