CANTEEN SPORTS REVIEW

The All Star Game is next week. Is anyone excited? We figured not. Almost everyone is snoring through this baseball season. Come on Football!

Kobe Bryant was "arrested" for something. I guess we'll find out in a week. His squeaky clean image has been ruined for the moment. If he's innocent, we hope his name is cleared. If not, here comes Johnny Cochran.

Serena Williams won Wimbledon as we predicted after her French Open loss. She beat her sister, Venus. Congratulations Serena!

Lance Armstrong is trying to win his fifth Tour De France. We wish him well. The French fans and media have been booing him. Typical Losers!

Dusty Baker, manager for the Chicago Cubs, feels that blacks and Hispanics do better in the heat. Tell that to our troops who hail from every ethnic background known to man. Give up baseball and do something really useful for America. How about it, Dusty?

If you have a chance, check out this survey done by CNNSI. They took a survey of MLB players on a wide range of issues. Check it out here.

During World War II, the U.S. Navy hired Reuben Fine, a world champion chess player, to calculate the probability of where enemy submarines might surface!

When Dutchman Cor Stoop leaned over the side of his fishing boat, his false teeth fell to the bottom of the North Sea. He never thought that he'd see them again. But three months later another fisherman found the dentures inside the stomach of a cod!

American football has its roots in British Association and Rugby football. The first game under Harvard Rules was in 1874 when Harvard University played McGill University of Montreal. When, in 1876, the Intercollegiate Football Association was formed, the rules reduced the number of players from 15 to 11 per team.

Who's on First? -- Two-sport sensation Deion Sanders (of the Reds) recorded the first hit, stole the first base and scored the first run, while Braves slugger Fred McGriff (now with the Chicago Cubs) hit the first home run. The first ever game held at Walt Disney World's Sports Complex during Spring Training.

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need by providing homes close to a loved one during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 31 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Donations will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House and program is committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

Good Morning MoJo! No wonder we didn’t see you much yesterday. What a great thread. Your quiz is more like final exam. We sure have a wide variety of folks in the Canteen and it is the same with the Military. Good morning to our military and good morning to the whole Canteen crew.

Warm up exercise for today . . . . .

FOOTBALL Anyone?

The animals were bored. Finally, the lion had an idea. "I know a really exciting game that the humans play called football. I've seen it on T.V."

He proceeded to describe it to the rest of the animals and they all got excited about it so they decided to play. They went out to the field and chose up teams and were ready to begin.

The lion's team received. They were able to get two first downs and then had to punt. The mule punted and the rhino was back deep for the kick. He caught the ball, lowered his head and charged. First, he crushed a roadrunner, then two rabbits. He gored a wildebeast, knocked over two cows, and broke through to daylight, scoring six.

Unfortunately, they lacked a placekicker, and the score remained 6 - 0.

Late in the first half the lion's team scored a touchdown and the mule kicked the extra point. The lion's team led at halftime 7 - 6. In the locker room, the lion gave a peptalk.

"Look you guys. We can win this game. We've got the lead and they only have one real threat. We've got to keep the ball away from the rhino, he's a killer. Mule, when you kick off be sure to keep it away from the rhino."

The second half began. Just as the mule was about to kick off, the rhino's team changed formation and the ball went directly to the rhino. Once again, the rhino lowered his head and was off running. First, he stomped two gazelles. He skewered a zebra, and bulldozed an elephant out of the way. It looked like he was home free. Suddenly at the twenty yard line, he dropped over dead. There were no other animals in sight anywhere near him. The lion went over to see what had happened. Right next to the dead rhino he saw a small centipede.

"Did you do this?" he asked the centipede.

"Yeah, I did." the centipede replied.

The lion retorted, "Where were you during the first half?"

"I was putting on my shoes."

Today's FEEBLE attempt at humor:

Two women met for the first time since graduating from high school.

One asked the other,  "You were always so organized in school, did you manage to live a well planned life? "

"Yes", said her friend, "my first marriage was to a millionaire; my second marriage was to an actor; my third marriage was to a preacher; and now I'm married to an undertaker."

Her friend asked, "What do those marriages have to do with a well planned life?"

"One for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, and four to go."
