The first tech jobs shipped overseas two decades ago involved programming. But now the work is getting more complex: the development of software and design of Web pages.

This sentence leaves me flabbergasted! Designing web pages is more "complex" then programming? "Programming" and "the development of software" are not synonymous?

I got eail from two friends in two different states this past week, both tech workers, 20-25% jobs cuts this week. Tech employment is in total meltdown.

Don't expect much from Bush, he is a empty suit, that is surrounded by globalists. Our only hope is a conservative Dem or a third party. Not much chance there either. We are screwed.

My personal plan is to stop buying everything that I do not absolutely need.

I live in the Detroit suburbs. I do mostly contract work, which is like playing "musical jobs" every six months. My last contract just ended, and I have already had two interviews and another one scheduled for this week.

Some things that I have listed on my resume is "excellent communication skills" and "ability to explain complex technical concepts in plain English."

2 and half pages of IT jobs in todays Wash Post. Many are only open to US CITIZENS.

Now I would like to believe that all of these were real jobs but the simple fact is a job has to be advertised for US citizens before an H1b can be put into it. Considering the circulation area of the Washington Post and the number of operations centered in the area a reaonable number of pages would be more like 25.

Since there are so many IT people out of work an opening in Dc or Minnesota will attract resumes from all arround teh nation. The actual numbers on IT do not support any rosy scenario and I really dislike people who try posting red herrings that do nothing to improve the discussion. How many of what specific type of IT jobs here are we talking about. Are we talking maintaing PC's in an office or are we talking senior level positions requiring analytical skills. Are we talking manning a technoical help line (clerical IT position) or are we talking maintaining a legacy system. Further, in DC one is also talking about a number of lower level poistions still supporting what are classified government projects. These may be open right now in DC but that says little baout the overall health of the economy.

Before you run your keyboard, why don't look at it. They sure don't sound like zungie jobs to me.

Since you don't understand the US CITIZEN requirement, let me explain. Citizen ship is required because some level of security clearance is required. A non citizen cannot be charged with treason.

I am sure that the number of jobs listed does little to fill the void, however these Co's are running these VERY EXPENSIVE ads week after week. That would seem to indicate that they haven't found the necessary people.

I have been looking for over fifity years for an employeer that would move their job to my door step. Thus I had to move 8 times to bring my butt to their door step.
