A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day
Free Republic made its debut in September, 1996, and the forum was added in early 1997. Over 100,000 people have registered for posting privileges on Free Republic, and the forum is read daily by tens of thousands of concerned citizens and patriots from all around the country and the world.
A Few of FR's Finest....Every Day was introduced on June 24, 2002. It's only a small room in JimRob's house where we can get to know one another a little better; salute and support our military and our leaders; pray for those in need; and congratulate those deserving. We strive to keep our threads entertaining, fun, and pleasing to look at, and often have guest writers contribute an essay, or a profile of another FReeper.
On Mondays please visit us to see photos of A FEW OF FR'S VETERANS AND ACTIVE MILITARY
If you have a suggestion, or an idea, or if there's a FReeper you would like to see featured, please drop one of us a note in FR mail.
We're having fun and hope you are!

Thank you to all our Hall of Famers and to all of you who have become part of our Finest Family ... as regular contributors and supporters who drop in every day to say hello and give a 'pat on the back' to the "Freeper of the Day" and the hostesses. We wouldn't be here without you. : )
We're into our second year now, and we're still having fun. We hope you are. As promised, for your information and perusal, here is our fifth "Hall of Fame" - a list of all those who've held center stage ... from Monday, June 24, 2002 through Monday, September 29, 2003.

DADDY'S EMPTY CHAIR
A man's daughter had asked the local minister to come and pray with her father.
When the minister arrived, he found the man lying in bed with his head propped up on two pillows.
An empty chair sat beside his bed. The minister assumed that the old fellow had been informed of his visit.
"I guess you were expecting me," he said. 'No, who are you?" said the father.
The minister told him his name and then remarked, "I saw the empty chair and I figured you knew
I was going to show up."
"Oh yeah, the chair," said the bedridden man. "Would you mind closing the door?"
Puzzled, the minister shut the door. "I have never told anyone this, not even my daughter," said the man.
"But all of my life I have never known how to pray. At church I used to hear the pastor talk
about prayer, but it went right over my head. I abandoned any attempt at prayer,
" the old man continued, "until one day four years ago, my best friend said to me,
'Johnny, prayer is just a simple matter of having a conversation with Jesus.
Here is what I suggest. Sit down in a chair; place an empty chair in front of you,
and in faith see Jesus on the chair. It's not spooky because he promised,
"I will be with you always". Then just speak to him in the same way you're doing
with me right now.'"
"So, I tried it and I've liked it so much that I do it a couple of hours every day.
I'm careful though. If my daughter saw me talking to an empty chair, she'd either
have a nervous breakdown or send me off to the funny farm."
The minister was deeply moved by the story and encouraged the old man to continue
on the journey. Then he prayed with him, anointed him with oil, and returned to the church.
Two nights later the daughter called to tell the minister that her daddy had died that afternoon.
"Did he die in peace?" he asked. "Yes, when I left the house about two o'clock, he called me over to his bedside, told me he loved me and kissed me on the cheek. When I got back from the store
an hour later, I found him dead. But there was something strange about his death. Apparently,
just before Daddy died, he leaned over and rested his head on the chair beside the bed.
What do you make of that?" The minister wiped a tear from his eye and said,
"I wish we could all go like that."
Prayer is one of the best free gifts we receive.
I asked God for water, He gave me an ocean.
I asked God for a flower,He gave me a garden.
I asked God for a friend, He gave me all of YOU...

Goodmorning Billie! You should know better than to encourage me with the wav files :) Now I'll be posting them all day!
Click the Canary!
Tidbit:
The Canary bird came from the Canary Islands, off the coast of Africa. The birds are named after the islands, not the other way around. Curiously, the Romans named them the "Dog" Islands, for the inhabitants bred an extremely large type of dog. As might be expected, the ever pragmatic Romans were more interested in fierce, guard dogs, than in little singing birds! "Canary" is a corruption of "canis", Latin for dog.

Aqua! Thanks! Hope today finds you feeling much better!
I keep saying every day that I need to use all these wonderful graphics 'someone' (who doesn't like to be thanked but gives great wolfie hugs) has given me, plus a few that I've found and/or created! It's fun to use them - but much quicker to post a reply without them!

Diver! Haven't seen that Atta Boy in a while! How's our California Golden-haired Guy?!Doin' okay, thanks.
Looks like you've been busy creating a few graphics.
I mentioned yesterday that it was an anniversary, but today marks a more important one IMO.
Forty Years ago today I raised my hand and took the Oath of Allegiance to the US Navy and the United States of America. That oath has and never will expire.
I said my good-byes to my mom and girl friend and boarded a DC-6 for a trip to San Diego and the US Naval Recruit Training Command AKA Boot Camp.
That girl friend became my bride and the oath at our wedding ceremony thirty-eight years ago has not and will not expire either.
I'll be checking in later, but I've got some writing I've got to get finished. :)

That gif is a beaut! Louie made the sweetest Logan gif for COB to use over on the Texas Termite thread, he's very gifted!
I'm slowly feeling better. Thanks for asking.

Well, if she doesn't seem to be in any pain, that must be a blessing. Hopefully the drooping mouth and 'drunken' walk will go away soon. Thank you for keeping us posted. You know we care.
