They meant SERIES at the Glen I am sure.
NASCAR Ping.
This just in... weather might be a factor this weekend :o)
Looking at the doppler, I'd say it's very series. It'll get a lot more interesting when Bonnie and Charley show up.
Big news about Jeff Burton today. My youngest daughter (age 9) is a big Jeff fan and doesn't know whether to be happy he has a regular sponsor now or bummed out that all her "99" gear is outdated. (We just got her a 99 flag *last week*!) A Rousch Racing exec was really charming to her when we went shopping at the CA Speedway on race day earlier this year and he spotted her in a 99 hat (not a lot of those around!) so she felt bad because of that, too. But at least he's got a definite "ride" all set now :).
Hey, that old color scheme can grow on ya. I've got 15 year old Earnhardt shirts and hats... I think they're classy. I've got Skol Bandit 33 Gant stuff, Ward's 22 Cat stuff... it's all good :o)
Jeff's going to do great with Childress.
Big move for Richard, yes, because this will help that AOL is able to sign a proven winner who hasn't been having the equipment with Roush because he had driven a car sponsored previously by the Venezuelan government and its socialist leader Hugo Chávez.
Two of Burton's personal sponsors will just ride along and keep on trucking-- Nabisco Foods and Coca-Cola. Coke will have a week to replace all the "99" caps with "30" caps. We might even see a few combination Harvick and Burton promos together with the two sharing Coca-Cola and Nabisco as sponsors.
I think Roush damaged his copybook by attempting to choose sponsorship from hard liquor and not try others. The only firm even doing a one-race deal or two were Comcast and TNT. The other sponsors on the #99 were the usual associate sponsors on the team which simply increased its support for a few races -- Swedish industrial giant SKF (on the bottom of the hood and C-pillar) and Shell most notable. Also Time Warner's TNT supported the car at the Daytona 500. If you noticed Burton's Coca-Cola promotions were done with him in a Shell Racing uniform from the Busch Series. (Shell sponsored that car at Las Vegas.)
The irony was RCR once carried Diageo associate sponsorship of the #3 from 1997 until 2000. But at the time, Diageo also owned Burger King and it was the BK logo on the #3.
I can see a Chevrolet ad with one driver in a NetZero uniform and one in an AOL uniform, asking, "Which one is the better Burton?"
late for work... gotta run...no time to pick drivers...hope it rains!!
You bet it's series. They gonna make dem boys turn right agin'. It ain't natchurl, it ain't.
This will get many of you upset. But I can't stand Jeff Gordon for many reasons. What a prima donna. "The driver most likely to be labeled girlyman." He couldn't be seen near a bottle of Coke. Same for Johnson. While I enjoy the sport, I have no respect for the management.
Ditto for the Alltel, Viagra, and DeWalt drivers. All three have been photographed this year knocking down the same blue Powerade bottle in Victory Lane this year.
It was a six-week span of seeing that bottle being knocked out which had Coca-Cola officials fuming to NASCAR. If you paid money to be in Victory Lane only to see your product sent flying too many weeks in a row, your ROI is troubling.
Coca-Cola was tired of seeing their ROI stumble, and I'll say this as a business side: they needed something to stop their ROI slide to Pepsi.
Pepsi NNCS Drivers: 6, 9, 12, 17, 19, 24, 25, 48, 77
Won't be watching any NASCAR this weekend. I've got tickets and pit passes for the Beltera 400 in Ky. It's a IRL race with an Infinity race on Saturday. As much as I like watching the taxis trade paint, my favorite racing will always be open wheel.
We've still got a lot of Ward's CAT stuff, even my sons' bedroom clock, LOL -- I'm trying to convince my daughter her 99 stuff will be collector's items :). Thanks for your note! :)

That's very funny!! Hadn't thought of them being with competing online services.
Thanks for your informative note.
And some scuttlebutt..........
Rusty to retire after 2005? Although nothing has been announced yet, Rusty Wallace, the 1984 NASCAR rookie of the year and 1989 champion, has begun planning for a farewell tour next season [2005]. Such announcements often come during the October weekend in Charlotte, but it wouldn't be surprising if Wallace, who will turn 48 Saturday, were to make his in two weeks in Bristol, Tenn., site of nine of his 54 victories.(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel) - been told the announcement will come at California Speedway during the first labor day weekend race there.(8-13-2004)
Oh thats Special!!!
It's not raining at Watkins Glen, but NASCAR was forced to cancel Friday's activities because of a wet track. Unable to keep moisture from seeping onto the racing surface, Sunday's Sirius at the Glen starting lineup was set by owner's points, meaning road-racing veterans Boris Said and Scott Pruett are going home.
