The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Home grown Islamists may hit US: FBI chief
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- The United States could be attacked by "home grown" Islamist terror groups, the FBI's chief has warned.

FBI Director Robert Mueller told the London Financial Times newspaper in an interview published Thursday that the United States could face attacks from "home-grown terrorism" very similar to the July 7 bombings in London that killed 52 people and wounded another 700, Mueller said.

When asked if the United States could face such attacks from "home-grown groups", Mueller answered emphatically: "Absolutely, it could," the Financial Times said.

Yes, the borders will be our un-doing.

Disease and terror simply walk across it.

I was surprised when Bush allowed the Mexican truck drivers to drive on our roads.

Of course, there are fake drivers licenses for sale, on every corner, I think.

He is placing them in harms way by trying to conceal the real nature of this bombing.

Wonder how many of those who attended the game readily accept Mr. Boren's blanket "it's nothing at all - move along" response.

Our first suicide bombing in a crowded venue and there is no media coverage and the venue is more concerned about its image than putting US citizens at alert about a terrorist act at their location. Shame on them and shame on anyone portraying this as anything less than what it really was. The next time it may not be as easy to contain the news if more people are killed than the suicide bomber.

Course he has a Muslim room mate and their room is filled with nasty stuff that makes things go BOOM!

It's just a coincidence Ernest. So is the fact that the Pakistani roommate is missing. I'll bet he's just heartbroken to lose his roomie. He's probably off somewhere grieving as we post tonight, or perhaps he's looking for a new vest, a very special vest, one suited for appearances at crowded social events - you know, THAT kind of vest.

Kingdom Prepares to Fight Bird Flu Epidemic Threat
Maha Akeel, Arab News

JEDDAH, 3 October 2005 — As Saudi Arabia prepares to welcome Muslims from around the world who want to spend Ramadan in the holy cities and then the millions who come for Haj, concerns are high about the possible arrival of bird flu in the Kingdom. Many of those who come for Umrah and Haj are from areas in Asia where the virus has spread among humans with deadly effect.

Harriet Mier must have GWBs stamp of approval - question is, how will she stand up to the personal attacks also known as questions by the demonic party who devote their lives to attempts to discredit GWB and anyone who as much as knows him.

When the History Channel does any program about Christians or prisons; we change the channel. Otherwise, it's pretty good when it comes to coverage of prior wars.

A story of incredible heroics by US Army in Maryland....

Ebola's Dogged Enemies
Team of Fort Detrick Scientists Labored for Years to Develop Vaccine

By Nelson Hernandez
Washington Post Staff Writer
Sunday, October 2, 2005; C01

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/01/AR2005100101357.html

By Day 3, Tom Geisbert knew the monkeys were going to die.

He could see it in their faces as he entered the monkey room in Suite
AA-4, wearing the china-blue plastic spacesuit that serves as a uniform
for the scientists of Fort Detrick's U.S. Army Medical Research
Institute of Infectious Diseases when they are working with the world's most
vicious viruses.

Healthy monkeys in the Biosafety Level 4 lab would often react to his
suit by jumping, screeching and beating on their cages. But these
monkeys glared sullenly at Geisbert with bloodshot eyes and expressionless
faces.

It was Oct. 25, 1999. Geisbert had devoted nearly a decade to finding a
vaccine for Ebola. Now he was waiting to see whether the vaccine he'd
given the monkeys would provide any protection against the Ebola raging
inside their bodies.

He pulled on the back of the cage, and a false wall expanded, slowly
pressing a monkey against the bars, where Geisbert jabbed it in the thigh
with anesthetic. Fifteen minutes later, he pulled the sedated primate
from its cage. He drew blood: The white blood cell count was plummeting.
The vaccine for a disease more lethal than smallpox was failing. It was
a bad day in the fight against Ebola.

It would take four more years of such days before Geisbert and his team
would make a breakthrough that could save lives by offering protection
from an epidemic or a bioterrorism attack.

Each day, Geisbert steeled himself to witness the ravages of the virus.

( a very long article, but also interesting)
