Pennsylvania State police are searching for a 14-year-old girl reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint after her parents were murdered.
Authorities have issued an Amber Alert for Kara Beth Borden, who was last seen at 8 a.m. in Warwick Township, Lancaster County.
Police reported that the teen was taken by 18-year-old David G. Ludwig. Authorities say he was last seen driving a red Volkswagen Jetta with Pennsylvania registration E-H-H-0-9-9-4.
Borden is described as white, 5-feet-1, and 100 pounds, with brown hair with blond highlights. She was last seen wearing a black sweat shirt with "Pillar" across the front, blue jeans and black sneakers.
Ludwig is a white male with brown hair and brown eyes.
State police are urging people in the following counties or cities to be on the lookout for Ludwig: Lancaster, Lebanon, Dauphin, Perry, Juniata, York, Cumberland, Mifflin, Snyder, Northumberland, Franklin, Berks, Chester, Montgomery, Bucks, Philadelphia, Delaware, Schuykill, Lehigh and Northamption counties.
It was not immediately clear how authorities discovered the killings.
Neighbor John Hohman, 40, said he first noticed an ambulance on the street around 8:15 a.m. About 25 minutes later, he said he got a phone call from Lancaster emergency management officials telling his family to stay inside.
Looking out the window, Hohman said he saw teams of police running through the neighborhood; around 10:15 a.m., authorities told him to go into his basement and wait there until further notice.
"We were really upset; we didn't know what going on," Hohman said.
Hohman said Borden, who played soccer, occasionally babysat for him. "She's a very nice girl," Hohman said.
Neighbor Tod Sherman, 47, has lived in the quiet suburban development for 12 years and said that Borden was one of five children.
The Borden family has lived on the street in a tan, two-story house for several years, he said. Kara's father, Mike Borden, worked for a printing company, said Sherman.
"He was very smart and focused, a nice guy. They were super people," Sherman said. "They were just a fine family."
The Bordens home-schooled their children and knew Ludwig through a home-schooling network, Sherman said.
Sherman's son Tyler, 11, played with Kara's youngest brother, David. Tyler said he sometimes saw Ludwig at the Borden house, frequently dressed in black.
"I didn't find him to be very friendly," said Tyler.
The eldest two Borden children, both male, are in their 20s and no longer live at home, Sherman said. The whereabouts of David Borden and Kara's older sister, both of whom still live at home, were not immediately clear.
The Amber Alert system uses a state's emergency notification system to give broadcasters a description of a missing child and a suspect's vehicle. The information is also displayed on electronic highway signs.
It is named for 9-year-old Amber Hagerman, who was kidnapped and killed in Arlington, Texas. It is used in 47 states.

Let it go. This forum runs on a shoestring. I'm sure the mods are busy enough just policing the forum without having to "explain" every one of the hundreds of decisions they make every hour.
I join in urgent prayer for her prompt return!
You are trying to persuade the wrong person.
They respond by their actions... if they wanted to allow this thread on BREAKING it would be there.. period.. we are not "entitled" to an idividual response to our request.. once a decision is made on a "suggestion" any additional "suggestions" on the same issue are simply disregarded.. IMHO this is fair, if Jim wants to take a poll on the issue he would just do it..
She's pretty. Looks like a typical teen to me. How exactly do you think a home-schooled teen is supposed to look? They're not all dorks, you know.
Police said Kara Beth and Ludwig were dating behind her parents' back. The parents reportedly had asked Ludwig to come to their house Sunday morning so that they could talk to him about his relationship with their daughter.
"We think they're boyfriend and girlfriend," said Lititz Police Chief William Seace. "The young girl was out during the night, came home, and her parents confronted her. From what we understand, he came to the house."
I am not trying to persuade anyone to do anything.. I am just rendering my opinion just like everyone else.
I don't think he actually did. It was hypothetical. Stop brown-nosing.
Home Educators Ping!
In case anyone missed this story...
Amber Alert issued for homeschooled teen in PA.
Parents killed. Abducted by boyfriend.
(If you want on/off this ping list, please let me know).
Bump
uh....I think you meant to say the bad decisions of a teenage boy, didn't you, or are we to believe that the 14 yro shot her own parents....
speaking of "bad" decisions, millions of 14 yrs get wide-eyed over older boys.....its natural, not that I think its necessarily healthy.....
and here's a flash....maybe whoever actually MURDERED the parents will suffer the rest of their life....
That is all you need to know about girls who dress like that. I hope the message gets through to my teenage sons and they find a wholesome, decent woman like their mother.
PING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sam....if you've treated your wife like gold, loved her to PIECES, those boys of yours have been watching and learning.
Honest.
Thank you! I believe that part of the reason some girls dress the way they do is because they think boys like it. I think they would be surprised to find out that many boys are turned off by girls who wear tons of makeup and jewelry and who dress provocatively - though most boys wouldn't admit it in a peer setting. When I was of dating age, I stuck with the girls who were quiet and modest. Didn't take me too long to find the right one and I can't say I've regretted a single day of my 20 year marriage.
Prayers for this girl. May God protect her and keep her safe.
She sure doesn't look fourteen. Was she complicit with the boyfriend? Did she go willingly?
Contrary to what I said earlier...if this WAS just a one time Glamour Shot for fun.....why not.
BUT, what gets me are the moms who allow the girls to dress like that ALL the time...they're NOT doing their little girls ANY favors!!!
I have the feeling your boys are going to be JUST FINE!!!
Of course all of this is hypothetical, on both of our parts. No one yet knows the specifics about this crime, or whether Kara was abducted or left voluntarily.
I do know that David Ludwig was not welcome in the Bordens home. It would appear that he and Kara may have had a secret relationship that was forbidden by her parents. As a parent, I, too, believe that a fourteen-year-old girl is not old enough to be dating at all, let alone dating an eighteen-year-old boy.
Thus, the bad decision I believe Kara may have made. Were it not for her possible disobeying of her parents rules, and her possible relationship with this boy, he would most likely not have become as emotionally involved, unstable and volatile as it appears he did resulting in the death of Karas parents.
The millions of fourteen-year-olds who get wide-eyed over older boys to whom you refer dont all sneak around behind their parents backs. Nor are the older boys over whom they get wide-eyed all capable of cold-blooded murder.
As for your assertion that whoever actually murdered the parents is the one who will suffer for the rest of his life I was speaking about the suffering that results from the haunting of the human conscience. And I had preceded the statement that Karas nightmare has only begun with the assumption that she has one.
That assumption is not necessarily valid when considering a young man who commits a brutal double murder, perhaps within the vision of the victims young son.
Even if I havent clarified my previous statements sufficiently, thisll have to do.
(And notice that I conveyed all of the above without even a hint of condescension or sarcasm.)
