Iwo Jima, If Covered By The Media Today ... (Very Graphic Heavy)
October 2004 | Zell Miller

Posted on 12/10/2005 2:10:06 PM PST by Zacs Mom

Like most everyone here I loath the biased and negative manner in which the MSM reports the news from Iraq. I recently rediscovered an editorial Zell Miller had written back in October of 2004 describing what it would be like if TODAYS media had covered the battle of Iwo Jima in 1945. I don't see that this essay was ever posted to FR so what follows is Mr. Miller's insightful speculation ~ only now it is illustrated with actual images of this horrendous battle to win a foothold in the Pacific.

Thank you all so much for all of the kind words about this special post ~ Mr. Miller really struck a cord with me on this one!

I thought some of you might like to know that I have finally managed put this post up on it's own free standing web page!
(I'm self taught on the computer and this new system I am working with is giving me fits trying to re-learn how to do things differently ~
but that whole other story)

At any rate, If any of you would like to share this page with friends and family members here is the URL address:
http://www.goodolddogs3.com/If-IwoJima-Happened2day.html

Since it is so graphic intense, y'all might want to caution anyone with a slow connection that it might take a while to load fully ~
maybe they could click to open it and then go out to dinner or something

;^)

Also, if any of you happen to have a web site where you'd like to provide a link to this page, here is a graphic you are welcome to use:

I would vote for that Republican ticket. It will take some time to get our Country back to what our Founding Fathers envisioned but this would certainly be a start.

IIRC the powers that be expected the battle to last 3 days. After all it's a small island.
It took over a month.
Some days 50-100yds. gained.
Looking at the casualty numbers, we lost more than the Japanese in dead, wounded, etc.

U.S. personnel 6,821 Killed 19,217 Wounded 2,648 Combat Fatigue Total 28,686
Marine Casualties 23,573
Japanese Troops 1,083 POW and 20,000 est. Killed

With today's reporting we would have packed up and come home.
