Great article that should be read by all conservatives and even moderates.
He is spinning it differently than he did at the time, which leaves him misrepresenting his reasons. Also, look at all of his statements on it. He doesn't think it was all wrong at all. He is only backing off the very worst part of it. How he could have EVER supported that part is beyond me.
“McCain has gotten real squirrley on global warming”
I would not call it squirrley, more like full blown global warming alarmist. He has took the lie, hook line and sinker
IMHO, that's why Fred supported McCain's infamous attack on the First Amendment. It was just loyalty to his friend. Nobody is perfect.
All that needed to be said, IMO. Pure slime with a crust of self-aggrandizement...
We must allow voters to choose and not before Feb. 5 should we dis any of our guys(excepting Paul who should be urged to leave the race and then support our nominee graciously)so that the MSM and Dems determine our guy. I do know that at least we have guys who will defend the nation unlike the leftist socialist pacifists that the Dems are. As to economic views, McCain and Huck have to be put on the fire to promise tax cuts, freedom of speech and good conservative jurist picks. If the Conservative Media has to do it, do it. Some of our guys are waiting for the VP pick in my opinion and that is why they won’t burn any bridges.
P.S. Fred was probably counting on GWB keeping his promise to veto McCain-Feingold.
There is no way I would ever vote for McCaine for ANYTHING!!!
And the gang of 14 could be called "gang of 15". Thompson played go-between to give the group legitimacy.
Yes. There was huge pressure from the media to "reform" campaign contributions and supposedly eliminate dirty money. At least some of those who finally voted for it, after having voted against it for many years, did so because they thought that Bush would veto it. So they could pacify their constituents while still not seeing the bill pass.
Bush should have vetoed it. He couldn't have been more villainized by the media than he already was, and he could have given a speech emphasizing that it was a first amendment freedom that he was supporting.
That’s the way I see it, too. That’s exactly how I see Thompson.

Am I the only one offended that McCain and Huckabee inferred that all of us against amnesty are racists? I cannot and will not vote for anyone who called me a racist. Even against a dem.

Why don't you shut your political pie hole?
Stifling the www? Online Freedom of Speech Act (H.R. 1606)
"1606 is needed because federal courts have ordered the Federal Election Commission to regulate "electioneering communications" on the Internet because of the Bipartisan Campaign Finance Reform Act (McCain-Feingold). If H.R. 1606 fails to become law, your Web site or blog could be shut down for the 30 days prior to a primary election and the 60 days prior to a general election should you express "electioneering communications."
So who do you want to win a rather tenuous battle between cons and other republics? McCain? Huckabee? Giuliani? Or are you just trollin? If you are a Hunter supporter, then say it. Otherwise you are just a troll.
Thompson did distance himself from some of the fund raising aspects of the bill and offered and amendment of his own to correct what he saw as deficiencies. I would like to find where he distanced himself from the advertising restrictions which are the most egregious parts of the bill IMO.
I have just begun asking around for that because I would really like to keep Fred in my "no problem to vote for" category. I don't want Duncan Hunter to be so lonely.
commitments to Conservatives mean absolutely nothing to McCain. McCain's instinct is to screw conservatives. If McCain had any honor and decency, he would run as a Democrat.
great post!! I am with you 100%. McCain is a vile, corrupt, bitter old man who should be in forced retirement. He is a danger to our Republic.
