Court refuses to hear FLDS mothers' request All FLDS children in Texas now off to foster care

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The last of the children taken in the raid on the Fundamentalist LDS Church's Yearning for Zion Ranch are now adjusting to life in the foster care system. Escorted by police cars and ambulances, more than a dozen charter buses rolled out of the San Angelo Coliseum grounds Friday, carrying the remaining 260 children toward foster homes.

Small children waved as they went by. Some appeared to be very young; one child was seen holding a bottle.

"It's a good day for them because they're out of this shelter environment and getting to more stable places," said Chris Van Deusen with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services. "They're still temporary homes, but it's more conducive to child care."

The departure from the coliseum, which has served as a massive shelter for 462 children and dozens of their mothers in recent weeks, was still emotional. On Thursday, many FLDS mothers were separated from their children.

The children will be heading to foster care facilities and homes scattered across Texas. Mothers are being allowed to stay with tbabies under 12 months of age; the others have been separated.

Meanwhile, attorneys for the FLDS Church threatened lawsuits against the numerous government agencies involved.

...

Meanwhile, parents who have been cast out of the FLDS Church have been coming forward to help establish paternity. Some had no idea their children were in Texas.

"We are hearing from parents who tell us they were forced out of the FLDS, and they believe that their children may now be in DFPS custody," said Rolfe. "We are making arrangements for those parents to submit samples to labs that are close to where they live."

that none of us know the contents of.

There is one piece of information that we do know however:

State Rep. Harvey Hilderbran, R-Kerrville whose district includes Eldorado, speculated that law enforcement and CPS probably had a loose plan in place. Hilderbran remembers talking to CPS officials about the ranch in 2005, when he worked to pass a bill targeted at the sect that raised the legal marriage age with parental consent from 14 to 16. The bill passed.

Did Texas go too far in polygamy case?

The targeting of this sect goes back years. This was a planned, premeditated event. It was planned for and the spurious phone call was all that was necessary as a pretext to set it into operation.

This wasn't some random happening.

Looks to me like this travesty of justice will end with two unintended consequences:

1. Legalization of polygamy.

2. Over a billion dollars in law suite settlements paid for by the tax payers of Texas.

It may take 30 years to resolve completely.

Oh come on. After some experience in the foster care system, and the 24/7 filth on tv which they will see for the first time in their lives, never mind being trown to the wolves in the public school system; all the horror stories they were told by their multiple parents will seem true.

Quite frankly, I would rather them experience this then the sexual abuse that they were living with in that compound. I am surprised at your disregard for this. Wow a bad TV show vs having sex with a 60 year old at age 14. Does not take a genius to figure out which is worse.

can you imagine how scared those kids are?

I would have been horrified to have been take from my home as a child. My parents were not the best, nor were they perfect. To be removed from their home, I’d blame myself forever.

Can you imagine how scared they were when the adults came into their rooms and had sex with them at a young age. One finishes and another old guy walks in. I am sure they will be fine now.

I thought this type of stuff only happened in communist countries.

It does. Blackbird.

I am shocked that you both think sexual abuse only occurs in communist countries. No it happens everywhere, but only democracies takes care of the abuse like Texas is THANK GOD!!!

Sadly because they were just watching and not taking actions, many more children were abused. Sad the state did not take action sooner. Although I am proud of the state for taking the action now.

There seems to be a tremendous lack of evidence in this case, please submit yours to the court.

Well I guess we need to wait until the state finishes the DNA testing, the interviews, etc. There is much work to be done because of these sick creeps (even if one gets arrested, it is worth it IMHO). Please tell me that you don’t agree with me and I will be shocked!

I think you're caught in a circular reasoning trap and operating totally on emotional reaction and not rational thought commensurate with our system of justice.

Interestingly, we seem to be well politically aligned based on the information on your personal page, but based on my own experience with mainstream Morman family life (which I highly respect) and some personal experience with the ultra liberal CPS system, I think there is something very wrong here.

I find mainstream Mormons very respectable from what I see in the Romneys, the Osmonds, Julia and her brother on Dancing with the Stars, etc. These folks are practicing very old Mormonism that has been outlawed. That to me is a problem that is all.

A lot of sensationalism here but the court cases will be serious including the ones that could indeed lead to legalizing polygamy.

I don’t see the mass seizure of hundreds of children coming from one false complaint as a “saving the children” matter as strongly as others do.

Due process gets thrown out the door when sensational and emotional agruments about “child abuse” come up.

These CPS people investigate countless unsubstantiated cases involving millions of people.

And the left whines about “domestic spying” in this country involving terrorists.

CPS is the real “domestic spying” scandal in this country.

And in the war zone we call the public school, School teachers are being assaulted daily. I know, I know, it must be the Teacher union's fault.

And why should adult members of this cult not be charged with kidnapping the children of those parents cast out? They have taken them across state lines.
One good thing about this situation is that with even little children not knowing who their mothers are because there were so many “mothers” caring for them since birth, they will adjust to the new caregivers in foster care more readily than normal children would.

I hadn’t heard that the kids were being drugged, poisoned, and dying. Wow. Where did you hear that?>>>>>>

This is the future planned for the children. It is a statistical certainty that some of these children will die in state custody.

I take it that you mean how Jeffs and his dirty-old men cronies run FLDS and the compounds in Hildale, Colorado City, and Eldorado. If that is what you mean, then yes.

otherwise, Texas is doing the right thing.

Hopefully, the courts can untangle the mess they have made out of the situation and get back to protecting the innocent and punishing the perps.

Respectfully speaking, the courts didn't make the mess. Warren Jeffs and the FLDS did, through their elaborate shell game to circumvent federal and state laws and their continuing deceit.

A friend of mine was put into foster care growing up. She and her sister were sexually abused there. I hadn’t even recalled that personal side to this issue til now (!), but now the reality hits me even harder when I think about that.

She is a very successful woman—through personal fortitude and determination to overcome what happened to her—and people who deal with forster children often remark on how rare it is for foster-care kids to be such successes as adults. However, I do wonder (okay, suspect strongly) whether her OCD and lack of emotionalism result from the abuse.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean that foster care isn’t better than manyh horrors out there that children would otherwise face, but it does serve as a good reminder that it’s not always the best choice—or without consequences.

I'm shocked at your lack of comprehension. Nothing of the sort was stated. Blackbird.

No...the call didn’t.

Heresay about the call did. Let’s be clear that the only “Oath or affirmation” (required by the Constitution for a warrant) was an Oath that hearsay had occurred. and that the veracity and nature of the actual claimant was never ascertained nor investigated. Only the middle link in the chain was in contact with police.

Furthermore, the warrant itself admitted that the accused wasn’t even registered in the county sex offender registry, yet they easily found him elsewhere after the raid.

I know that police have to have minds as devious as the prey they hunt. But that doesn’t excuse them from applying deviousness to evade Constitutional requirements and basic rights. Society is not the enemy; criminals are.
