Michelle Obama, wife of US President-elect Barack Obama, says she is "begging" her mother to move to Washington to be with their daughters who dote on their grand mother.
"I am begging my mother", Marian Robinson, to leave her home on Chicago's south side and move to the White House to be with Malia (10) and Sasha (seven), Michelle said and hoped that her mother will heed to the request.
"The girls are going to need her, as part of their sense of stability," Michelle told Newsweek.
"And what is true for my mom is that she does anything for us and her grandkids. All they have to do is look at her with sad eyes and she's done for," she said.
The family is expected to move to the White House after Obama is inaugurated as US President on January 20. Marian regularly made a 10-minute journey from her home to the Obamas' residence to look after her grand daughters for almost two years while their parents were campaigning for the primaries and Presidential elections.
Michelle said her mother initially told her that "there wasn't enough space" and that she "didn't want to intrude" into their space.
"I think she's going to come," she said. If 71-year-old Marian decides to stay in the White House, it will be an important addition to new White House team as the country's next First Family prepares for the domestic makeover.

I could care less if her mother lives in the White House, of course if an R First lady had “begged” her mother to move in to help with the children the press would have had a field day.
There are many important issues to concern ourselves with about the Obama’s- to me this just isn’t one of them.

I agree with you both. Those little girls are behing uprooted from school, their home, friends, and close family to move to DC. Having their grandmother there would help them a lot.
Think some of you need to think of the little girls and what they are going through now. Have any of you ever moved with small children? If not, it is a traumatic experience for kids to be uprooted and having a grandparent around would make a difference.
Then why are they holding hands?
I have to agree with an earlier poster that there’s a lot of racist comments on this thread - Sanford & Son theme, “baby daddy”.
I’m really sorry if this offends people but by criticizing them based upon racial stereotypes we’re as bad as, if not worse, than the people that have criticized Bush all these years based on him being a cowboy.
Not me.
There are millions of grandparents raising their grandkids because the parents have other things to do. I see some of them picking their kids up at school. Mostly they are too old to take the kids skating camping etc. Some can barely walk. Their grandkids are not in scouts or sports.
You may find it healthy and personally fulfilling to become, at age 71, a fulltime nanny for 4 years and enjoy Moms society work, gowns and jewels and state dinners vicariousky. I don’t.
No. My point was that it is better for a grandmother to help raise the children, rather than dump them in day care.

That's BS! Lots of devoted families have had daughters who became pregnant out of wedlock. It's a stigma on the family (not as much as it used to be), but it does not indicate a lacking on the part of parents.
This has nothing to do with attacking the children. Only speaking for myself, but I’m still letting off steam for the relentless bashing of everything “Bush” for the last 8 years and the hateful things these two people have said about America and a lot of Her citizens over their entire life span.They fully and knowingly participated in hurting this country for self gain. They now demand full cooperation and respect. Right now, I don’t feel I owe them anything. That may or may not change. It is up to them to change my view.
You can stop it, but it takes lots of effort.
Most parents don’t want to intrude on their kids lives that much.
My tween daughter had a seizure last year, and now she is never left alone. We originally had a baby monitor in her room at all times so that we could hear her. I did give that up because it’s been over a year since her seizure.
You can have alarms in your house to monitor movement. There are just so many ways to monitor kids these days.
Most problems come from parents leaving kids at home alone or giving them free reign in the car.
I have no idea what was said, but if it offends you, it offends me.

Actually, I don’t usually look that way, but it’s been a bad week!
My dad went into the hospital on election night, and I have been worried all week about him dying. (He’s better, but not great.) Then, I’ve had problems with my daughter who has epilepsy (nothing major), but just stressful.
I can’t handle too much negativity this week, and this just sounds really stupid.
