N.Y. Catholics: Dems Trying to Bankrupt Church
NewsMax.com ^ | February 28, 2009 | Richard Lawrence Poe

Democrats have declared war on the Catholic Church, with new laws that threaten to bankrupt Catholic schools, hospitals, charities and parishes. Thus far, the worst attacks have come in New York.

“We’ve taken a lot of hits this year,” Dennis Poust, spokesman for the New York State Catholic Conference, tells Newsmax. “Outside the government, the Catholic Church is the largest provider of health, human services and education in [New York]. But some legislators are so driven by malice that they’re willing to see our charities and schools go under.”

A significantly lower number of weekly mass attending Catholics voted for Obama...

Lower than what?

The fictional number posted by wmfights?

They were either silent or complicit in much of the change in our social fabric for 40 years.

BS. Were it not for the Church, the pro-life movement would be about as relevant as PETA.

That figure is for CINOs. Weekly Mass-going Catholics went 55%-43% for McCain.

I suppose I should just look at white Evangelicals when discussing my Baptist church. We went 75% for McCain. I rather confront the reality that in the Evangelical churches we went for McCain 55% meaning we have 45% who are confused about what it means to be a Christian.

If all you want to do is massage the %'s you don't confront the internal problem.

He simply demands moral accountability from any INDIVIDUAL, regardless of the economic system of the country they live in. That’s not socialism.

Adam Smith observed that capitalism needed to have a moral and ethical core to be sucessful. He was no socialist either.

Whether they are Catholic, evangelicals, or even atheists it is wrong to vote for pro-abort politicians, but that’s another thread.

But more importantly what are YOU going to do about what’s going on in NY and around the country? Will you contact your politicians? Will you write a letter to the editor? Will you call a talk show? Do you try to convince folks you talk with to not vote for pro-aborts?

Obama's fascism will eventually destroy everything if not stopped.

I agree.

We went 75% for McCain...

More bogus numbers.

Do meaningless statistics give you comfort?

"55% of Roman Catholics voted for O"

It takes more than professing to be Catholic to be Catholic. The overwhelming majority of Catholics who actually practice their faith voted for McCain.

Denying reality only aids the enemy.

It's a plausible explanation. I'm sure they figure there won't be any consequences.

I think it is the real explanation. And as for consequences, they know there will be some -- they just don't care. As their patron saint once said, "If you're going to make an omelet you have to break some eggs."

Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.

The second rule is: Never go outside the experience of your people. When an action is outside the experience of the people, the result is confusion, fear, and retreat.

The third rule is: Wherever possible go outside of the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.

The fourth rule is: Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.....excerpts from 'Rules for Radicals',...Saul Alinsky

WTG! That’s what threads like this are about.

Archbishop Charles Chaput supports my contention. (http://www.zenit.org/article-25192?l=english) Until you can back up your statements they remain bovine scat.

I certainly meant no slander and am sorry you interpreted my remarks that way. BUT, I don’t know how anyone can deny that the RCC, at least in the USA, went mighty quiet as the social tsunami of the late 60s forward swept the land, and did not use its power to influence at least its own members. It wasn’t just the RCC, it was all the mainline Protestant churches as well. All of which gave rise to the evangelical movement.

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops exerted little to no influence, they were so busy turning altars around, bringing in folk music, yada yada yada. Why they didn’t clamp down on CINO politicians from Day One is beyond me. Kennedy/Biden/Pelosi/Durbin/Kerry .. all of them ... should have been excommunicated the day they announced their support for ‘a woman’s right to choose.’ But, oh, no. They are still well received among the Church hierarchy, with maybe a wrist slap from time to time.

Have you noticed what’s happened in “Catholic” colleges? Those were the former machines that drove Catholic thought in the USA; today they are no different from public colleges, and some are worse.

I would love nothing better than to see the RCC return to its theological roots.

Catholics like American Jews have nobody to blame but themselves. They vote like mindless twits for democrats and then whine when democrats do what democrats do.

Tribalism was one reason. Cardinal Cushing in Boston was an Irishman first and a Catholic second. That's why he kissed Kennedy behinds for decades.
