Twelve people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting spree at a Texas military base by what officials believe was possibly carried out by an Army officer.

The suspected gunman was identified by ABC News as Major Malik Nadal Hasan.

The shooter was killed and two other suspects, who are also soldiers, have been apprehended, Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone said.

The gunman used two handguns, Cone said. He wasn't sure if the shooter reloaded the weapons during the attack.

The outrage is the instant assumption by the old media talking heads that US soldiers are damaged goods who are just waiting to snap and open fire on somebody. This has been part of the leftist anti-military template for decades. It was, and is a vicious lie.

Sadly, I must disagree with you. The assumption is not entirely unfounded. Locally, several soldiers from the same unit at Ft. Carson have been arrested for committing a several murders over the past couple of years.

They were telling which hospitals victims were being transported to along with numbers (sorry I missed them). Likely, the hospitals' switchboards are jammed.

We've been on enough bases to know that people walk around unarmed. In fact the two times we were on a base when our son came home and we were there to greet him, he left us to turn in his weapon, and then walked around without any.

Defenseless.

Yes, they only have their guns during instruction. They're not in a war zone, but on a US base.

Would they be armed if they were on a base elsewhere, like close to Iraq? Just wondering, in case my son gets deployed.

Seems to me that the scum figured graduation day would be a good day to inflitrate the base with the number of vistors that would be there.

And as of late, our Little Rock AFB has done away with vehicle stickers, so we MUST stop and show our ID to get on base. Don't know if that's a nation wide change.

If someone wants to get on base bad enough...they can.

The news said something about a graduation ceremony. I don’t recall any TRADOC schools being at Fort Hood, which leaves the NCO Academy. Perhaps a couple of students failed (or got caught cheating by other students), and decided to do this.

They often hold graduation ceremonies in the theaters on most posts I’ve been on (where some of their class might have been), while the restmight have been out-processing at this resource center.

Just a possible theory.
