Earlier today, The Washington Post reported on a hunting camp connected to presidential candidate Rick Perry bearing in its title a racial slur. On This Week earlier, fellow candidate Herman Cain reacted negatively to the news, criticizing Perry for going there so frequently.
Christiane Amanpour reviewed the details of the camp with Cain, and while pointing out that the word in question may have been painted out, she asked the African-American candidate his take on the story. Cain wasted no time in sharing his candid thoughts on the matter:
That is very insensitive. There are some words that do not basically inspire the kind of negativity like that particular word. And I know that youve refrained from saying that word, so Im going to say what the word was on the rock. The name of the place was called Niggerhead. That is very insensitive. And since Governor Perry has been going there for years to hunt, I think that shows a lack of sensitivity for a long time of not taking that word off of that rock and rename the place. Its just a basic case of insensitivity.

From your previous months posting history, I could not find anything about Cain, either positive or negative but lots and lots of positive stuff about Perry. Support whomever you will but don't pretend that Cain ever had "your vote".
Here is a post from yesterday that you might find interesting:
“In case I might have created a different impression, I am rather passionate about defending Texas, but I am only ambivalent about supporting Perry.
In the past election for governor, I did vote for Perry, although I really preferred his opponent, Bill White, who had a good record as the Mayor of Houston. However, I voted for Perry because I did not want a democrat to be in charge while Texas went through the redistricting exercise that happens every ten years after the census. That was just too great a risk”
That was number 146 on this thread:

I read it and on all other political threads for the past month, you weren’t “ambivalent” at all about Perry. Like I said, support whomever you want.
I like Herman Cain and I am not ambivalent about it, I believe he is the most conservative candidate running, that’s not to say he’s without flaws.
My history is open for inspection too and you would find that the only republican candidate I have said anything negative about is Romney and I think 99% of us agree on that. We don’t have to bash candidates (other than Romney) to support our own choice.
Too me it seems that people not winning the nomination like Rick Perry and/or his supporters and Ron Paul and his supporters and looking to take down the party with them.
What is of equal trouble is that people lik Ron and Rick are help Mitt by imploding.
So it’s Cain or bust because the powers that be have knocked out Bachmann before she got going. And Palin is still stringing us along.
What bothers me also is how the other candidates didn’t go after Romney like have done with Perry.
I am glad someone else besides me are seeing the same situation. My guess he has promised a VP or administration slot.
PERRY DOES NOT OWN THE HUNTING LEASE! They NEVER painted anything on the rock! Geez!
No they are not.
Oh, what a pantload of BS!! In those days a HUNTING lease could run anywhere from $100/year to . . . . MAYBE . . . as much as $2500/year depending on what type of game was being hunted over how much land during what % of the yar! He wasn't buying the land, he was leasing it to hunt in!! That's well within the range of most of middle Ameria who buy boats, vacation homes, RVs and the like.
Your comments are beyond ridiculous!!
Yep.....this year even the weeds are dead.
Cain can brush off Garafalo but not this?
WOW, a voice of reason amongst all this bull crap! Interesting, isn’t it that no one has commented on Mark Twain’s usage of the “Nigger Jim” moniker for an escaped slave, eh? Google the term “niggerhead” and you will find numerous references to rocks, landmarks, chewing tobacco, daisy flowers, shrimp brand names, etc. used by whites, blacks and reds over the centuries.
Unfortunately, Cain responded predictably to goading by some “gotcha” so-called journalists without thinking clearly. I recall the furor caused by an ignorant black bureaucrat in DC several years ago who claimed racial discrimination because someone had used the word “niggardly” in describing some policy or other. Once the race card had thusly been played, every race baiter on the planet jumped on the band wagon and hounded the “perp” unmercifully even though it highlighted their own ignorance! If we have any of those here, kindly look up the definition of “niggardly” in your effing dictionary, OK?
Whatta bunch of maroons!

Correctamundo! Were not the Winter Olympics held many years ago in Squaw Valley, CA? Advertised all over the world and a favorite place to go snow skiing then and now, until some Indian victims’ group claimed it was derogatory to their fair maidens, even though their forefathers coined the word!
JC
I wholeheartedly agree with you. I’ve been called a redneck, cracker, gringo, honky and a**hole, and yes, I’m all of those, thank you! In fact, since my operation that last one is now perfect - the doctor fixed it! HAW!
JC
Sounds like Cain opened his mouth without thinking, unless there is something he knows that I don't.
and his apparent willingness to support Obama over Perry in the general election.
How in the hell did you come to that conclusion?
But then I found this youtube video, which has the Blitzer question Cain was answering, "Could you support Rick Perry if he was the nominee?" youtube link
There is still some doubt in my mind. Did Cain say "Today" to mean "in the primaries" (even though Blitzer's question said "if he was the nominee" (if so, Cain needs to clear that up), or does "Today" mean "unless he changes some of his positions?"
I’m sure Cain supporters are leaving in droves because a black man was offended by the use of the word nigger. Maybe Cain should have waited for more facts or qualified the answer but if the facts are that the word was visible until 2008 vs. other versions of the story, I also find it offensive.
To state that this candidate of significant accomplishment has anything to do with Jackson/Sharpton lies somewhere in between silly hyperbole and willful retardation. Now, take a deep breath, unwind the panties, and spend the rest of the day working on getting the faintest of grips.
Here’s something else I thought about this morning. Yes, I understand that the N-word was used as an epithet against black people, and that was bad (although it is odd why as an epithet it is worse used against black people by whites than by blacks).
But this isn’t an epithet. Some white person actually NAMED their ranch by this name. Obviously, it is a name they do NOT think is derogatory toward their ranch. It clearly isn’t being used to be insulting, why would anybody name their own things by an insulting name?
So even when the name EXISTED, it clearly wasn’t meant to be negative, or insulting, or disturbing. All of those interpretations are just what people WANT to make out of the name today. And that’s fine — we went through a process of renaming all the places that had those names which included the “offensive” set of 6 letters of the alphabet (it still cracks me up how we can put a few letters together and they have some sort of magical power to supremely offend people).
But to suggest that someone happening to go to a place that once had this name is going to that place specifically to OFFEND someone else is absurd.
You are absolutely correct; the ranch name denoted a location or physical description and likely existed for the better part of a century. This entire controversy is a manufactured one to advance political ideology by the democraps and their lsm partners. If the DNC and Larry Flynt can’t come up with more than this on a piece of property not even owned by the Perry family, then they are incompetent and should be fired en mass! BWAAAHAHAHA
BTW, if I had owned that property and some renter arbitrarily and unilaterally destroyed my sign at the front gate, I would have booted his arse off the property and cancelled his lease for cause!
