2012 Iowa Caucus Live Thread
Iowa GOP ^ | 1.3.12 | Free Vulcan

Posted on 01/03/2012 8:08:24 AM PST by Free Vulcan

Live thread to cover today's GOP caucus. News, predictions, opinions, totals, and the like.

Will be heading out about 4 pm or so to get our site ready and do a final review with the precinct chairs. I expect it to be bigger than 2008 with very heavy turnout and we are preparing for that.

We are also ready for disruptions. They simply won't be tolerated. The state party sent us a memo saying if there's any trouble call the cops immediately. Anyone trying to cause problems is going to get a rude awakening.

My predictions of the outcome are a narrow field with about a 10 point spread for the top five with Bachmann far behind in single digits:

Santorum - 24 Romney - 22 Paul - 20 Perry - 17 Gingrich - 14 Bachmann - 4 The Rest - 1

Think things are still in flux and many won't decide till right to the wire, so I'm not terribly confident of any predictions.

Santorum will insure an Obama victory. A social conservative is not what we need right now.

You need to get it through your thick head that the only way conservatives win is to have a candidate that is a social, fiscal and security conservative.

I think Rick Perry is by far the best candidate in the race, but if he can’t get the nomination than I’m for Gingrich.

Although very disappointed in Gingrich’s failure to defend himself better against the attacks.

Wasn’t that supposed to be his long suit...being able to out debate everyone?

Sorry, but now that Santorum has a very tenuous hold on first place status the attacks will start on him.

They will be vicious and they will be true. He won’t be in for the long haul.

Romney’s to lose, unfortunately, and I think tonight’s results are a win.

There are no real wins in Iowa-— it’s an aberration.

Well, he didn’t implement Romneycare.

He doesn’t support in state tuition for illegals and call people that oppose it heartless.
Has Santorum ever had to deal with illegals? What is his position on the border?
Santorum is a good man but he does not have the experience with jobs and energy as does Perry.

Newt talking now.

Starts out by graciously praising Santorum.

Now taking Ron Paul’s views on foreign policy (iran and nukes) to the woodshed.

GO GINGRICH!

The game’s changed. :)

This is what happens when you have real electoral data. The game swings the most early on, which is why Iowa is so important.

Santorum is picking up Evangelical/Catholic heartland voters in Iowa, in sufficient numbers to win the state. This is Perry’s core voters.

Perry still has a shot, but he’s got to beat Newt. That he’s pushing to go to SC, means the last stand for Perry will be in SC.

"The Mainstream Media ABSOLUTELY HATES THIS GUY, because of his anti-gay stances.

MARK MY WORDS, the venomous explosion of hatred you are going to see directed at him now, will make the orgy of media Palin hate PALE in comparison."

Which is why I'm doubly glad I donated to him a couple of months ago to try to keep him alive. I've had it with the elitist media jerks and I've ***really*** had it with the militant gay groups and their tactics.

Nice try. But Perry will endorse Newt. Stay tuned......

Perry ran on family values, Newt has none. Supporters of family values will not go to Newt, and that includes the social conservatives in SC.

“The real decision for conservatives, like it has been for me is between the candidates other than RINO Romney and nutcase Paul so as the lower vote total conservatives drop out, most supporters should consolidate to Santorum and Gingrich. The totals for the RINO and the nutcase will not change much.”

Exactly. And watch Michele and Perry (conservative team players they hopefully are) drop out TOMORROW.

he problem for Gingrich was that the attacks didn’t come via debate. Romney doesn’t have the guts to confront him face to face. Apparently Gingrich didn’t at the time have the money (or the inclination) to respond. Maybe not a battle worth fighting over Iowa. Time will tell.

Newt is done. Listening to him now. He looks and sounds defeated.

Also, Callista’s eyes are very sad.

They have seen the writing on the wall and it says:

These bible thumpers who think abortion and gay marriage are the most important things right now need to get real.

Um...did you miss the sign on the door that states this is a Pro-life, Pro-God, Pro-Marriage site?

If you aren't these things, why are you here?

I still hope there is a role for Newt, even if he doesn’t get the nomination. He’s definitely locked and loaded for Romney, those negative ads pissed him off.

Hey I like Perry on a personal level but neither Rick Santorum nor I made Rick Perry not do his homework so he came off as a dumb sh6t during the first few debates. That was all Rick Perry’s doing as is the tuition for illegals thing which rules him out in my book. Your reading interests may vary.

Why didn’t he use all that money to at least get a top three spot in Iowa?

He’s got 9 million and he went from 1st to 4th in three weeks? When he goes negative in the south his numbers will drop.

All you supporters should reward him for his 4th place finish
by giving to his campaign till it hurts.
