Catholic Bishops Push for Immigration Bill
The Weekly Standard ^ | September 9, 2013 | Maria Santos

Catholics across the country are now hearing their priests and bishops urging them to reform—not just their immortal souls, but immigration policy. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) is promoting an extensive effort to persuade their congregations to back comprehensive immigration reform.

Although the Catholic Church has long supported pathways to citizenship and immigration reform, this campaign is, according to Kevin Appleby of the USCCB migration policy office, “taking it to another level.” When U.S. bishops work together on an issue, they wield a great deal of influence. They won’t convince every Catholic politician to take up immigration reform, but they are determined to try.

The USCCB migration office has compiled a bipartisan list of politicians to target, who they believe could be swayed by their appeals. Just this last week, hundreds of Catholics in Los Angeles, led by their auxiliary bishop, rallied outside the office of Rep. Ed Royce, the Republican Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, asking him to drop his concentration on border security and support pathways to citizenship.

Bishops and priests were especially encouraged to deliver homilies last Sunday, right before Congress came back into session. Churches in at least 19 cities hosted pro-immigrant masses and events last Sunday, and many more will do the same in the coming weeks. Parishes will host pilgrimages and public forums, and bishops and other church officials will meet with House members.

This unusual effort to mobilize citizens from the pews reveals just how important this issue has become to the Church, which considers immigration a matter of human rights. In Boston, Cardinal O’Malley called the status of undocumented workers “the central moral issue at this moment in the policy debates.” The Catholic Church is currently a major provider of support services for immigrants,

While attention is riveted on Syria, meanwhile, back in America, the wreck and ruin continues.

The Catholic Bishops could do much good simply by exercising their authority within their competence. Such as excommunicating ALL pro abort politicians.

NO.

Go away.

America already has the most liberal immigration in the world.

Stop it.

No more.

So, I guess the Catholic Bishops are really FOR abortion, because that’s what they will get with this policy.

The CINO church gets money from govt sources for their support of immigrants, legal and illegal. Follow the money, this is about bishops, staffs, etc getting more money in their pocket; not doing the work of the Lord.

You don't think that creating a permanent radical liberal majority (Democrat) will result in unfettered abortion policy down the road? Seriously?

The priest at the Mass that I attended was a guest. He preached on Mary, as it was her birthday. He rceived a standing ovation at the end.

The closest he came to discussing immigration as to point out that Jesus was a political refugee in his infancy. And he quickly followed that statement with the observation that “Tyrants always go after the children and the worst tyrant of them all has a sweet-sounding name — Pro Choice.”

And they wonder why I don’t give to the Archbishops Appeal.

When it comes to theology I bow to the Church.

When it comes to Amnesty they can go soak their heads.

“He preached on Mary, as it was her birthday.”

Mary, Jesus’ mom Mary?
We don’t know when His birthday is, so where in the bible does it say when she was born?
This must be another one of those things made up completely out of whole cloth in Rome.
By the way, the Catholic church is wrong on this issue. Dead wrong. They’re as wrong as black churches like the `Reverend’ Wright’s church that preaches politics and “G_d damn America”.

My ancestors came here from a different country. Got their names on a 1913 census form. Under the column ‘when applied for citizenship’ dates were provided. Under the column, ‘language’ English was entered.

They helped build NYC, their local church and one of the children listed on the census eventually served honorably in the 101Airborne and was killed in Battle for his country while in Germany in WWII.

Now, the illegal, unregistered immigrants i see have less than no respect for this country. They do not contribute. They take from the church, the medical community’s resources and from scholarship funds

They never will respect a country that gives with no expectations

The USCCB is so wrong on this issue its not even funny. They are acting against the laws of our country, the Catechism of our own church and are offering services they have no resources to cover

And anyone who says we are a wealthy country is not looking at 17 million growing debt our children are going to owe they already do oh and while the Latinos take scholarship funds

The USCCB is siding with the Mexicans in their midst completely ignorant to the real issues they have no right to insert themselves in

One, we commemorate her birthday, as we do Jesus’. Where in the Bible does it tell us what day He was born

Two, this is not the Church. The true Church would never condone illegal behavior This is renegade USCCB that group that worked so hard to protect politicians and the status quo. They are the romp leadership of the Church.

And you can take you animosity toward the Blessed mother to your pastor or to a priest for clarification or tho the father of lies if you wish, but it won’t do you any good here

If they come here to contribute and assimilate I have no problem. If they come here illegally, take jobs from American citizens or legal immigrants, try and make us like the shiite hole they left, and/or get on welfare I do.

Please go out and take the coexist sticker off your car.
