Freakin Jaw is killin me... (my vanity, my title)
Vanity | Vendome

Posted on 09/19/2014 9:37:30 PM PDT by Vendome

So yeah, I posted lame "topics" but, y'all love me, so here it is.

cracked my back molar, dentist put a temp on it, crushed the lil plastic thing yesterday, pretty dentist put the old aluminium one on until the permanent comes from Vietnam or wherever.

Thing is, it hurts, like it's bare and for the 1st time in my life my stomach hurts.

Okay, so I whine but, could be worse, right?

I mean, I'm a single, 51 year old man. If were pregnant and walking the streets of Somalia, I don't think, maybe, they would understand.

I feel it might be great if someone put a hatchet through my left foot.

I mean, I don't really use the the thing, not even for driving and hell, the distraction?

Priceless!

So, there it is. Vendome whines for the 1st time but, dernit! It feels like what's left of my tooth is in a vise!

Arghhhh!!!!

I wish Donna from "Suits" was here. She could Donnafy the situation and all would....well, likely be ...uhm...well...

Doning flame suit and appreciate your best excoriating comments.

Yer the best!

That sounds like my mothers old remedies..

But she also believed in burying a severed chickens head under some kind of tree...

Tea bags or tobacco used for what they called a poultice, was the standard of care back in the day..

Is it safe?

I get the reference, but had you intended "Is it safe?" as a real question, the answer would have been no:

Thanks for the reply...

I might be able to hold off the full set with a partial, but my dentist retired and he was the only one I found in 50 years of looking that I trusted.

I will probably wait until I am eating liquids..

Ugh, sorry. I guess I have sympathy because I didn’t go to the dentist for a while (had a string of bad dentists - gah!!) so now I’m making up for lost time with a bunch of filling cavities and having crowns done myself. So, my pain hasn’t been as bad as yours but I’ve been close enough I can imagine it! So, fwiw, my take on this:

1) Don’t mix alcohol with anything else except aspirin unless you want to end up like Heath Ledger.

2) The ear pain is likely referred pain from your tooth, but as others have well pointed out, the whole thing could be the fruits of an abcess. I suggest you take your temp and see if it’s up significantly. If it is, the emergency room or your own doc should probably be your next step.

3) Hydrocodone/Vicodin is your FRIEND. Believe me. The ibuprofen my dentist recommended was just not getting the job done. Then I remembered the Vicodin I had left over from an operation. It knocked out that pain like nothing else. For tonight, do you have some sitting around the house, or a friend you could score a pill or two from just tonight? (Think if you have any friends that have had an operation lately. They hand V. out like candy for those.) Then get your own Rx tomorrow. But Vicodin really is da bomb for tooth pain. (Don’t take it when you expect to do anything else, though! It makes me just a tad loopy.)

So... deal with pain tonight. Then see your doc or dentist first thing in the morning in person to see if you have an abcess developing, since it really is true those things can kill you relatively quickly.

Hope you feel better soon.

An abscessed tooth is bad enough but if it gets infected, the pain is absolutely horrible. I’ve been there.

If it starts throbbing (or pain comes in waves), it is likely infected. If it gets infected, even the shots they give you to numb the pain are pretty ineffective.

I’ve never been in such physical pain as I was that weekend. My dentist was out of town over a long Memorial Day weekend. It was absolute torture.

Good luck and take the advice of those telling you not to wait.

If you get desperate enough, I suppose you could try pissing in your own mouth.

Urine therapy for the healing of teeth and gum problems

OMG. I’m just kidding, darlin’. Go to the emergency room. They won’t let you suffer. Otherwise, call your dentist AT HOME.

A keynote speaker was pulling out his notes one last time, when he remembered something important: he had left his teeth in a jar back in his hotel room.
He asked the fellow next to him if he could stall while he ran up to retrieve his choppers.
The other man figured out the problem and said, “It’s safe. I just happen to have a set of dentures here in my pocket.”

The speaker tried them on (in?) and they fit OK. He gave the speech, it went over well, and on time so he sat down, removed the teeth and, drying them off with a napkin, said to the Good Samaritan: “I sure am lucky to have been seated next to a dentist!”
The other man took the teeth back and replied, “I’m not a dentist. I own a funeral home.”

years ago I had 2 impacted wisdom teeth (the last teeth in the back, top and bottom, are “wisdom”.

This means they were growing upwards, but were underneath jawbone, so they were growing into the jawbone.

of course, pain didnt get really bad until after work friday.

worst pain imaginable, the prescribed pain med did nothing.

like a train sitting on your head, of course, i couldn’t really sleep until the operation.

anyhoo, the wise teeth surgeon recommended all four come out at once, a little inpatient surgery, done.

fyi...

I read someplace that the yesteryear movie star Raquel Welch swears by the beneficial effects of Blue Green Algae, which, like Acidophalus (sp) with help the gut to replenish what they call the Flora and the Fauna bacterias of the lower intestine. Seems to have worked for her,. Raquel Welch has got to be at least 72 y/o, and look at her now!

Take a swig of hydrogen peroxide and “hold” it on the tooth for about a minute. Then rinse. Don’t swallow it. If there’s an infection I guarantee the pain will stop.

If that doesn’t work get some Oral Gel.

One other thing. Put ice on it. Typically if it’s hurting all the time it’s because of the body’s natural heat. Try some ice for temporary relief until you can get back to the dentist.

I have found a good dentist.
He was pretty fairly horrified by what my previous dentist did.
He was also fascinated with her filling technique.
I needed a root canal done on one of the teeth she drilled the nerve on.
It abscessed, puffed my face up, and was a royal pain to deal with.
After the root canal, I had a dimple in my upper jaw plate just under my left nostril where the one incisor has a root base.
That was where the actual access had been.
My current dentist is suspicious of all the other filling and work that lady did.

Percocet 10mg as needed

Chase with one shot of Cointreau or Jaeger

If no schedule II pain meds around.....call dentist and plead

Suck on liquid oragel....copious dabbing

Some say clove oil or swishing an ounce or two of soy sauce around bad tooth sweats the puss out....the pressure of the puss is causing the pain....I yank that temp off too...sounds misplaced

In meantime drink enough hard liquor up to nausea

Aspirin too...or advil.....3-4 times normal dosage

You can even put aspirin on tooth

Your tooth should not be hurting like this.....

You need pain dope and levaquin...don’t was time with weak antibiotics...take the JDAM antibiotic first off....you’ll notice relief in 5-6 hours as the abscess quits festering.....abscess is body’s natural containment reflex.....I had two in my hips from injections the size of eggs...took 3 years to heal after CD&I.....brutal pain level

If this is a very back molar....just pull it for 300 bucks....or else spend 2000-3000 for root canal and crown....you don’t need them unless cracking spare ribs is your thing

Good luck...its always good to keep narcotics and antibiotics around for weekends like this

If you were within a few hours of Nashville I’d help out....I can spare from my WTSHTF kit

I agree with black agnes vendome, if your ear is hurting too that sounds like it could be infected.

You should definitely call your dentist and tell her you’re in a lot of pain.

The last time I had an abscessed molar, I thought I had an ear infection. Surprise, it wasn’t an ear infection. Would have been cheaper to have an ear infection by the time I was done with the root canal and crown.

I’d be getting me some bee propolis in liquid form. I would use a qtip and paint the tooth and gum area around it with the propolis. It will stick and provide a barrier to other liquids.
You can get it health food or vitamin stores. It will help greatly with the pain as well as any infection which may be present.
I’m on a mobile device or I would provide a link. good luck with this.

I used a teabag when I needed a root canal thinking it was dumb but I was willing to try anything. It actually works.
