Name a blue state in which conservatives win state wide elections. Heck conservatives have lost in red and purple states. For example:

Todd Akin
Ken Cuccinelli
Richard Mourdock
Sharron Angle
Christine O’Donnell
George Allen
Joe Miller
Ken Buck
Alan West
Doug Hoffman
JD Hayworth

Rand Paul On Shutdown: "Even Though It Appeared I Was Participating In It, It Was A Dumb Idea"
I said throughout the whole battle that shutting down the government was a dumb idea. Even though it did appear as if I was participating in it, I said it was a dumb idea. And the reason I voted for it, though, is that it's a conundrum. Here's the conundrum. We have a $17 trillion debt and people at home tell me you can't give the president a blank check. We just can't keep raising the debt ceiling without conditions. So unconditionally raising the debt ceiling, nobody at home wants me to vote for that and I can't vote for that. But the conundrum is if I don't we do approach these deadlines. So there is an impasse. In 2011, though, we had this impasse and the president did negotiate. We got the sequester. If we were to extend the sequester from discretionary spending to all the entitlements we would actually fix our problem within a few years.

Rand Paul: Time for GOP to soften war stance
...by softening its edge on some volatile social issues and altering its image as the party always seemingly "eager to go to war... We do need to expand the party and grow the party and that does mean that we don't always all agree on every issue" ... the party needs to become more welcoming to individuals who disagree with basic Republican doctrine on emotional social issues such as gay marriage... "We're going to have to be a little hands off on some of these issues ... and get people into the party," Paul said.

Rand Paul's immigration speech
...The Republican Party must embrace more legal immigration.

Unfortunately, like many of the major debates in Washington, immigration has become a stalemate-where both sides are imprisoned by their own rhetoric or attachment to sacred cows that prevent the possibility of a balanced solution.

Immigration Reform will not occur until Conservative Republicans, like myself, become part of the solution. I am here today to begin that conversation.

Let's start that conversation by acknowledging we aren't going to deport 12 million illegal immigrants.

If you wish to work, if you wish to live and work in America, then we will find a place for you...

This is where prudence, compassion and thrift all point us toward the same goal: bringing these workers out of the shadows and into being taxpaying members of society.

Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers.12 million more people assimilating into society. 12 million more people being productive contributors.

Rand Paul calls on conservatives to embrace immigration reform
Latinos, should be a natural constituency for the party, Paul argued, but "Republicans have pushed them away with harsh rhetoric over immigration." ...he would create a bipartisan panel to determine how many visas should be granted for workers already in the United States and those who might follow... [and the buried lead] "Imagine 12 million people who are already here coming out of the shadows to become new taxpayers...

Rand Slams Congress for Funding Egypt's Generals: 'How Does Your Conscience Feel Now?'
Sen. Rand Paul is hammering his fellow senators for keeping billions in financial aid flowing to Egypt's military -- even as Cairo's security forces massacre anti-government activists. [by "anti-government activists" is meant church-burning Christian-murdering jihadists]

Surprisingly, the elder Paul seemed more attracted to the views of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders...

Ron Paul hates Ted Cruz for being pro-Israel.

It really is that simple.

Hmmm. The mask comes off now that his son is no longer President.

I found it interesting that the Paulbots weren’t all over the internet to troll other candidate’s supporters and scream at the top of their lungs that Ted Cruz & Donald Trump are “neo-con globalists who hate liberty and love endless war”, as was their typical talking point against any GOP candidate not named “Paul” during the 2008 and 2012 elections.

I refuse to use the mainstream media assigned color schemes, but if you want examples where unapologetic strong conservatives have won statewide in states that tend to vote Dem nationally, here are some examples:

Maine - Gov. Paul LePage
Vermont - Gov. Jim Douglas
Vermont - Lt. Governor Brian Dubie
Rhode Island - Gov. Donald Carcieri
New Mexico - Gov. Susana Martinez
Wisconsin - Gov. Scott Walker
Wisconsin - Sen. Ron Johnson
Illinois - Treasurer Dan Rutherford
Illinois - Sen. Peter Fitzgerald
Minnesota - Sen. Norm Coleman
New York - Sen. Al D'Amato
Pennsyvania - Sen. Rick Santorum

The Gov. LePage that made the rounds of Iowa caucuses urging support for Chris Christie?

Yep, similar to how Fred Thompson endorsed his “good friend John McCain” in the primaries, Ann Coulter endorsed Romney, and Pat Robertson endorsed Rudy Giuliani. They’re still conservative but nobody’s judgment is perfect.

Todd Akin, would have won easily if he didn’t make a stupid rape comment.

Ken Cuccinelli, lost because of a third party candidate.

Richard Mourdock, lost because of a stupid rape comment AND a third party candidate

Sharron Angle, ran a terrible race and blew it because she was a horrible candidate who shouldn’t have been nominated

Christine O’Donnell, Delaware is NOT a “purple” state, it’s dem. A conservative would need to be flawless to have a chance to win there, ie not her.

George Allen, Stolen election (2006) that was only close because of Macca Smear Campaign.

Joe Miller, questionably lost to RINO running a write in campaign in a 3 way race, would have easily best the dem one on one

Ken Buck, lousy candidate, still almost won

Alan West, stolen election in new district he didn’t run in before

Doug Hoffman, lost a 3 way race with a RINO who dropped out and endorsed the dem

JD Hayworth, ousted in a rat landslide year, district returned to GOP

None of these race were lost because the candidate was a conservative.

That is NOT the point. The point is, being a conservative does not guarantee an election win. Rush is always spreading that meme, that if we nominate a conservative, we always win. Like you good explanation, there are OTHER factors involved in every election.

After my 50+ years of political junkie life, I am more convinced than ever that LIKABILITY and ABILITY TO CONNECT with voters is the best indicator of election success.

They sure shredded Douglas in the comments, including a former State Senator. Leftism and statism on the part of the VT GOP is what transformed it from a premier Republican state into a moonbat one.

You have a point. Often times it’s not the message but the messenger. If the latter is subpar, especially in a competitive race, it can be hard to overcome.
